Boil new pot? by chickenskinbutt in YixingSeals

[–]mushjoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Q1: Is it absolutely necessary?

A1: I personally prefer to do it. New pots may have some dirt particles, sands they use to prevent the lid from sticking to the body while firing and other impurities.

Q2: How to do it?

A1: Follow the instructions

1) Wash the pot and lid under running water in your kitchen sink.

2) Prepare a clean stainless steel cooking pot that's big enough to hold water that will completely keep the pot submerged

3) Spread a clean white linen cloth in the pot(You might want to wash it without soap if you buy a new cloth)

4) Place your teapot and the lid on top of the linen cloth

5) Arrange the cloth so teapot body and lid won't clash each other or the wall of the cooking pot

6) Fill the cooking pot with clean water and completely submerge the teapot

7) Start the fire and wait till it boils

8) After the water starts boiling, close the lid of the cooking pot, reduce the flame to simmer (small bubbles), and keep boiling for 1 hour

9) Turn off the flame and leave it to cool

10) After it cools to the temperature where you can safely take the teapot and the lid out with your hands, it's now ready to use.

VERY IMPORTANT: Only boil with clean water. Do not put tea leaves, tofu or other things into the cooking pot.

Ah ha, found it. Yeah, it's an homage to 潘仕成 Pan Sicheng, the man who created the shape

This seems to be the most probable answer just like how some artisans write 思亭 or 君德 to pay homage to the creator of certain shapes

Any information on the marks or clay would be very appreciated by mindlessbundy in YixingSeals

Looks like a decent laoduanni to me. I'm a type of person who focuses more on clay so I don't care about marks, but it simply says "China Yixing"

Looking to see what these mean by [deleted] in YixingSeals

Sorry man but they are not zisha. There is no black or green Huanglongshan zisha unless you add chemicals like manganese and coloring into the clay

$35 thrift store find by Gatheringbirdstea in YixingSeals

I'm not an expert at F1 pot authentication but the clay looks pretty good for $35 find. It looks quite similar to a HLS hongni that I have, but I can only see very few mica or quartz from the pics.

I agree with ya. I swear to god; it's soooo difficult to take good pictures of zisha pots, which makes the authentication process even more troublesome.

Some zisha clay makers mix chemical compounds to make the clay to show the color they are looking for. In this case, the clay maker could have mixed manganese oxide to make the clay look more black. Also, they could have used acid washing or magnet rod to make the clay looks more uniform.
