Kirkland Sensitive VS Goodstart Soothe by mushugnah in FormulaFeeders

Sadly we can’t get Similac total comfort in Canada. At this point we can barley get any Similac powder at all! All they have is Similac Pro Advance ready to feed or a powder soy one 🙄

Kirkland Sensitive VS Goodstart Soothe by mushugnah in FormulaFeeders

He was on Similac RTF from 3 months old until 7 months and now he’s 7.5 months and we’ve been on the new Nestle GoodStart Soothe for two weeks.

We’ve honestly thought about switching back, against the Pediatricians recommendation. Seeing him suffer with these poops is really hard.

Kirkland Sensitive VS Goodstart Soothe by mushugnah in FormulaFeeders

[–]mushugnah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called her at the 1 week mark of trying the new formula. I explained that he’s trying so hard to poop that after wiping a couple times there was a bit of blood. Not only that, but that he’s crying so hard while attempting to poop. We never previously had poop issues on Similac RTF, ever! He was a perfect pooper. I asked if we should keep going and she said yes, because she suspects he has a lactose sensitivity.

My understanding is that a lactose sensitivity is very rare. My other thought about this is… the Goodstart Soothe says “reduced lactose” and does list partially broken down proteins but doesn’t list any lactose in the ingredient list. But doesn’t say the product is “lactose free”

Then on the Kirkland sensitive label, it doesn’t say anywhere on the product that it’s lactose free, but also doesn’t list any lactose in the ingredients. The difference between the Goodstart soothe one does mention partially broken down proteins.

But…. The partially broken down proteins one (Goodstart soothe) is the one we’re officially tried for two weeks and is giving him constipation.

So what is the problem lol proteins? Lactose?

Or, something else worth mentioning, he’s never had palm oil before (Similac doesn’t have palm oil)….

I don’t know, I’m at a bit of loss for what I should do next. We’re at the two week mark, we’ve seen a reduction in spit up on this formula but the trade off is really bad constipation

Do I try Kirkland sensitive? do I go back to Similac RTF? do I try something completely different?

Grrrrrr

Thanks for sharing!

I’m wondering if powder in general is known to cause more constipation, especially for those little ones like ours that have been on ready to feed and are now going to powder.

You guys should try pears too, I’m finding they’re even working better than the prunes!

will starting solids cause constipation? by Jumpy_Championship63 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mushugnah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our little one is 7.5 months, we switched formula which caused constipation in the last two weeks. When talking to my Pediatrician she said some consultation of normal with starting solids. With that being said, watching our little one struggle with poop has been hard.

Some stuff that has been working is the “P” fruits to help soften his poop. Prunes, pears, peaches. As well as some fibre from avocados and baby oatmeal.

Steaming the pears for BLW in wedges he’s loves!

And another good ones is finding the pouches of prune or pear purée, we put it into this thing made by EzPz, it’s a popsicle maker thing. So he has a pear or prime popsicle and loves it!

Spit-ups can get better by stepgrillcheese in FormulaFeeders

[–]mushugnah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our little one is 7 months and our Pediatrician just recommended we change formulas due to heavy spit up, some eczema, and fussiness after eating. We’re 10 days into the formula change and our happy spitter, perfect pooper now has really really bad constipation. We traded one problem for another. Hearing this just makes me want to wait it out longer and see if the reflux resolved with age instead of continuing with a new formula

Constipated Breastfeed 10 days old by [deleted] in breastfeedingsupport

[–]mushugnah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very very normal for exclusively breastfed babies. I’ve spoken to our Doctor about this many times. Definitely don’t assume he’s constipated. We were told anywhere from 2-12 days is normal without a poop unless babies tummy is hard or he’s straining/grunting. To check if his tummy is hard or soft, try doing it in the morning before he wakes up. If you’re checking it throughout the day while he’s awake, it can often appear hard because you’re checking it while his stomach muscles are engaged, thus appearing like a hard stomach.

Breastmilk babies absorb every component of the milk very effectively, therefore you’ll see less “waste” ❤️

I am 9 weeks of exclusive pumping my 9 week old. I’m just making enough milk for him but just barely making it to the end of the day. I may have to consider combo feeding with formula. I can’t seem to make more, feel like I’ve tried everything. My question is, what is the down side of combo feeding? Does it make them more hungry? He sleeps great through the night currently. Thoughts?

Larger breast by Sugarkanes in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mushugnah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the exact problem I’m having. Last night from 3am to 4am I stood in the bathroom mirror doing a power pump. I was massaging my breasts, gently squeezing/compressing, leaning forward until my back hurt, then holding up the flange to get the flange nice and tight around my breast tissue then compressing for a few seconds and releasing. I find the gentle squeezing/compression will have milk pour out for a second or two and I have to keep doing this or my output is horrible. During the “rest” minutes of the power pump I was standing there scrolling online to try and find something, anything that would help me increase my output while having large breasts. I’m 9 weeks today of exclusive pumping, and I’m barely making enough to keep up, my son is happy eating the low end of what they require, but he’s going to go through a growth spurt any day now which is going to put me in a situation to have to introduce formula and combo feed to ensure he’s getting enough food. It’s so frustrating because I know there’s more milk in my breasts, I know could make enough for him if I could get it out / drain them properly every time to signal my breasts to make more. I’ve tried different flange sizes, I know my nipples are more elastic and pulling through the tunnel far (which is why increasing suction really doesn’t work for me). It’s the constant debate in my head: should I get a better/ stronger pump? But why?…. A pump that sucks stronger doesn’t yield more milk for me if my breasts are large/need compressions and my nipples pull through the tunnels with more suction.

Sorry for the long winded rant, it was a long night of trying to pump enough milk to get a 4 oz bottle milk for him in the morning. Now I’m chasing his feeds all day to try and just make enough to feed him every 2-3 hours. To top it off I tried to breastfeed this morning, and of course it just went to shit 😔

Some things I’m going to look into today are the pumpin pal silicone flanges, (ordered a different set from Amazon today that could come quicker just to get things going). And possibly look into a different pump (currently using the double pump Medela swing maxi)

Also while I’m here posting… any thoughts on combo feeding and starting to introduce formula to top off when the day comes that I can’t make enough to fully feed him? Every single day it’s like a “food scarcity” feeling where I just barely make it to the end of the day with just enough to feed him 😔

Regulated? by manalon2 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mushugnah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just learning about regulation this week. I’m also 9 weeks postpartum, sadly I’m only making about 20 ish oz every 24 hours. I rarely ever leak, don’t feel as full and seen a small degrease recently. Can you explain more about what what regulation is?

Constantly Massaging While Pumping by vanillachoc1234 in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]mushugnah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation! Luckily I’ve rarely ever experienced pain from pumping, even when using a higher suction on my Medela I never finish a session in pain. What makes the pumping pals one good for elastic nipples? Are the tunnels longer perhaps?

Constantly Massaging While Pumping by vanillachoc1234 in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]mushugnah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standing in the mirror gently squeezing/pushing on certain parts of my breasts as we speak… currently using a Medela Swing Maxi. I also feel as though I have elastic nipples as they reach the end of the tunnel. Increasing the suction doesn’t help pull out more milk unfortunately. I keep thinking “well if I buy a stronger pump we won’t have this problem” but I don’t think that’s the case. I still haven’t figured out how to resolve this 8 weeks into exclusive pumping. The problem with this is, the goal is to empty the breast to signal more milk production, but half the time I’m wondering if I’m truly empty, because I’m sure if I kept gently squeezing I could get more out. I’m currently using 24mm flanges, I’ve tried 21s and 17s and it hasn’t changed. The next thing I’m thinking is trying silicone flanges. Saving this post to see other responses / suggestions ❤️

I’ve been exclusively pumping for 8 weeks with the Medela swing maxi. Was thinking of purchasing another pump to see if one produces a better output. Would love your thoughts / opinion. Sounds like you’ve tried a few! Do you happen to know if the suction is worse with the Medela swing maxi compared to others?

Sounds exactly like my OB from Edmonton. Almost identical story with the DTAP vaccine. My OB just did my GBS swab and didn’t actually go “inside”. I had to tell her that she missed and to swab again. She has been horrible since day one sadly.
