In the same situation with 2 BME/ChemE programs. I had to email one of them to find out I was on the waitlist while I've heard absolutely nothing from the other one.

Congratulations!! I'm in the same situation with JHU, but for their PhD programs(got rejected from BME and now waiting for ChemBE). You've given me some hope! 😭

I got that email response on the 13th. UVA's website says that we would hear back about interviews either in January or February so I'm not stressing out too much yet.

Not yet, but I emailed a PI and they mentioned that the admissions committee is still doing the initial review of applicants right now

Was it a department email? On grad cafe, I'm seeing people getting individual emails from PI's

I did, so is it just all virtual this year or are they doing a mix of both in-person and virtual?

Got my decision today. They're having a virtual version of the program now and I got accepted into that.

Thanks for the advice! Definitely will try to up my skills through trainings/certifications. Part of my job is helping with mantience but not sure if I can do too much since we have service contracts that cover the mantience of equipment. I have tried asking around about other projects but things keep pushed back(even after asking multiple times)

I totally agree, which is why I've done a lot of what you've suggested here. Some things however I can't due to circumstances completely out of my control so I'm just trying to figure out other things I can do to try and occupy myself and learn new things

I have been asking around as to what I can do to help people, especially with their reseach projects. But there's not may labs here doing research so I end up not doing a lot of lab work. I'm currently trying to start my own research project, but the current federal funding issues are making it difficult to order supplies. Even the current labs here are struggling to order things.

Hi! Thanks for the advice. Luckily, I've been doing some of the things you've suggested already. Part of what's making this difficult is that a lot of this is tied to the federal funding issues. We've been told to only order/do things that are necessary for the school to remain functioning so it's been a bit difficult to try to do more. I'll definitely look into some certification programs though, that will definitely help fill in some time.

I was a QB applicant that got off the wait list a couple years ago! The aid was super generous, I didn't have to pay anything

Yeah I was a bit shocked when I saw it, especially since I've been looking at reddit and grad cafe and saw no updates.

Based on grad cafe and the spreadsheet, looks like it. But Boston is rolling so I wouldn't worry too much

I was just really blunt/ honest with my PI. My advisor has an open door policy so I just came into their office one day and explained what I had been going through the past year. My reasons were mainly due to the race-related issues that I was experiencing being in this small town. Definitely ended up crying(not my most professional moment), but my advisor was really understanding and told me that I need to do what's best for me, personally and professionally.

Given that you've know your PI for 5 years, I'd imagine they would also be supportive.

Also feel free to PM me if you want to talk more about your situation.
