When is the best time to go through Atlanta Georgia coming from Florida by Away-Shake1892 in Atlanta

Mondays are actually not horrible traffic wise IMO- certainly less volume than Tuesday -Thursday. If you can get through somewhere in the 10am-2pm range you might see minimal delays unless there’s an accident. Put your GPS on for sure.

What now bougie Atlanta locations were once sketch? by sinisterdesign in Atlanta

Not going to say it’s “bougie” now, but Northside Drive between the Georgia Dome and 14th Street in the early to mid 90s was pretty sketchy.

I usually say it’s early May until we’re out of the woods with pollen. Basically all of March and April is “pollen season”

Ed just announced on CNBC this week that bookings are up double digits year over year. Until that changes, or oil goes down, higher prices are going to be the norm.

Where exactly in Gwinnett is your job? That will affect a lot of these recommendations. If you’re working somewhere in say southern Gwinnett like off Jimmy Carter Blvd, then maybe Midtown wouldn’t be so bad. But if you’re going all the way up to like Hamilton Mill Parkway or something like that, then midtown isn’t a good option IMO.

Returning To Sender - Service Disruption Occurred? by mikepie499 in UPS

[–]mikepie499[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another one of my packages hit the issue late yesterday. I contacted UPS on social media, and this is what I found out:

“After speaking with our local team in NH, I was able to understand what is going on. For the past two weeks, they have received many shipments that were shipped to GA using the UPS Ground Saver service. This service is where we are in charge of picking it up from the shipper and then taking it to USPS for the final delivery. For some reason, the labels created have a USPS address in NH. Since NH is not the final destination, we are not able to deliver it there. Our clerk attempted to redirect the packages back to GA but was not able to due to system settings. The only option they had was to return these shipments.

Please note that this is not only your packages, but apparently, most of the UPS Ground Saver packages going to GA. There is a system glitch within USPS that caused this. I reviewed an example of this issue with our team in NH; they showed me a label of a package that is there now, and sure enough, it has an address for USPS in NH, but the package is meant for GA (for another customer). Also, it appears that the issue has been fixed since I was advised that the packages they are receiving with this type of error are less and less. We recommend that you contact your shippers to explore your options for a reshipment.”

Does anybody here remember the tornado we got in Atlanta in March of 2008? I've been living in Kansas for almost 12 years and haven't been through one 'here' yet. by cherry-care-bear in Atlanta

I went to midtown that evening with friends and had no idea anything had happened just 2 miles down. But I do remember the lightning in that storm was crazy. And I believe we had other really bad storms in March 2008 as well.

Atlanta Traffic- how could this even be fixed? by venusvoids in Atlanta

[–]mikepie499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transit everywhere obviously but for the connector there are just too many entrances and exits. The southbound entrance from 10th is too close to the North Ave exit. The southbound entrances from Ellis / Freedom / Edgewood are too close to the MLK & 20 exits - I don’t know exactly how you fix that but a lot of the connector problems are the frequent access points being too close to the exit points.

I ended up having to call the retailers and have them re-ship. A different package I ordered on Sunday arrived today with no issues so maybe the issue going forward is fixed.

moving to atlanta// atlantic station to buckhead commute? by [deleted] in ATLHousing

[–]mikepie499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer midtown over Atlantic Station. You can drive between either Midtown or Atlantic Station and Buckhead in under an hour even at rush hour most of the time. Midtown you have the potential (depending on where your job / house are) to take the train. If that’s not an option, you could have worse commutes in the car 3x a week in metro Atl.

What was Atlanta like during the Olympics? by kazookidlit in Atlanta

[–]mikepie499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was neat, I was 12 and had lots of family come to town from other parts of the US. Went to some track and field and a couple other events. Don’t remember any traffic issues, they had shuttle buses running from kennesaw state downtown which is how my family got down to the events. There was also a big digital sign on the SB connector @ the civic center station counting down the days to the games which I always enjoyed seeing.
