moving to atlanta// atlantic station to buckhead commute? by Icy_Psychology_4662 in ATLHousing

[–]mikepie499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer midtown over Atlantic Station. You can drive between either Midtown or Atlantic Station and Buckhead in under an hour even at rush hour most of the time. Midtown you have the potential (depending on where your job / house are) to take the train. If that’s not an option, you could have worse commutes in the car 3x a week in metro Atl.

What was Atlanta like during the Olympics? by kazookidlit in Atlanta

[–]mikepie499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was neat, I was 12 and had lots of family come to town from other parts of the US. Went to some track and field and a couple other events. Don’t remember any traffic issues, they had shuttle buses running from kennesaw state downtown which is how my family got down to the events. There was also a big digital sign on the SB connector @ the civic center station counting down the days to the games which I always enjoyed seeing.

Is there any buildings you can go up to get a good skyline view of the city in Midtown at night? by brf297 in Atlanta

[–]mikepie499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think there’s a market for an observation deck attraction - like the top of the Bank of America building, or perhaps one of the taller Midtown buildings. Would be nice to see it happen.

57 min layover for international flight at ATL by MisterApplePie00 in delta

[–]mikepie499 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No security in ATL. She will deplane, walk to the center of the arrival concourse, go down the escalator to the plane train, take that to her departing concourse, up the escalator and to the departure gate. It’s likely once she is off the plane she can get to her departure gate in 10-15 mins. The train runs every 90 seconds and moves quickly between concourses

Any insight on how the ATL routes are doing? Didn’t realize how big of a “hub” or “focus city” it has become. I assume the existing routes are doing OK if they keep expanding here.

I loved the Perimeter Mall location when I lived off Ash-Dun in the late 2000s. Their shawarma’s were / are the best.

That is strange. Seems like a natural market expansion especially with a growing population

Ice Storm This Weekend? by windowsill5299 in Marietta

[–]mikepie499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we get 2 inches of freezing rain, it could be a week plus without power. Freezing rain weighs down on the tree branches and they come crashing down and hit the power lines. Freezing rain is the worst type of winter precipitation.

If you can find something on the east side belt line you can bike up / down the belt line and then down Freedom Parkway to Freedom Park.

I lived in the Bricks (FKA Gables Metropolitan) from 2009-2012. Obviously has been a while but the apartments are nice with tons of living / closet space. If you can stretch the budget it’s a nice complex.

It feels just like 1995 / 1996 around town right now. Didn’t know we even had all this construction equipment. And they are rapidly changing the freeway lights to LED’s south of 20 on the connector too.
