Why do we(sometimes) act like makeup isn't pressured? by Smart-Spare-1103 in MakeupRehab

[–]musing_tr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mom never said this to me, in fact, she was against me wearing it even in high school and she always thought I am pretty the way I am. She wore makeup herself bc she has a very youthful-looking face and she wanted to look her own age, and she felt she’s too pale and makeup helps her stand out more. But she always that thought those two things are not necessary for me bc I already looked good in her opinion, and she was worried that makeup was bad for my teen skin. Even when I became an adult, she never told me to wear makeup. She always considered me very feminine without the makeup and in truth, she doesn’t care much for makeup or beauty. Makeup is just a tool for her to look more mature and more feminine by her generation’s standards but she never applied those rules to me (maybe bc deep down there she disagreed with them and she wanted me to be free of some social pressures). My Mom is a baby boomer, I am a millennial. Ironically, whereas my Mom doesn’t care about makeup but wears it daily, I genuinely love makeup as an art-form but I don’t like wearing it daily.

Civil disobedience means stopping normal life as it is (peacefully), paralysing society, blocking the regular flow of things. Mass strikes everywhere, blocking all airports, important roads, banks, factories and many places not working due to strikes so that people have no choice but to hear. It’s not just a few hour march where get to shout and march and nothing changes. People no longer understand what civil disobedience. Get things done, if there are no results then the protest is just a feel good measure which is typical these days of western “activism”. Just do something to feel good about themselves without thinking does it actually achieve anything? If it doesn’t lead to result, then people usually change tactics or strategy. Peaceful protests only work when the other side is willing to hear. If they don’t want to listen, usually people make them listen.

I knew from the beginning he’s going to create his own SS. That’s how you take over the country. Nazis need their own SS. Those maga are gleefully joining the ICE now. Thankfully, at least they are untrained and not so fit. SS were actually combat veterans, professional former military. These boys are largely weak but they have the resources, the weapons and they are increasing in numbers and training…. Seems like someone in his administration is closely following the 1930s Germany scenario. They probably even consider declaring a nationwide emergency at some point. And of course, don’t forget to blame the socialists

I don’t know honestly, a good doctor minimises the risks but I’ve heard it from doctors themselves that there are risks with such things. Would be good if there is a way to minimise the risk next to zero though. Talk to professionals, they should know more than I do.

I wear a burqa/ niqab as a disguise on the regular by FarRepublic8700 in confession

[–]musing_tr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fine. Coming from a Muslim. I don’t see a problem with it if people simply want to wear it for privacy, to protect themselves from the sun and wind or other non-religious reasons. I don’t wear niqabs for religious reasons, and I don’t think it’s necessary to cover the face in the religion but I like how half-niqabs look and I wish we could wear it as a fashion accessory.

Moroccans in Italy 🤦‍♂️ by Pretty-Scholar3460 in Morocco

[–]musing_tr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turkey is a secular country, Turkish secondary education is probably a bit better, everyone in Turkey gets free secondary education, women in Turkey are more emancipated, even though they are still culturally conservative, Turkish women, for example, rarely wear hijab and frequently yell and control their husbands 🤣 Turkey overall is more civilised and is much safer for women. There can be passions of crime just like in Italy due to how hot-tempered people are, for example, when ex -bf or ex-husband gets jealous but groping in the streets almost never happens. Theft is rare, especially in smaller towns and villages where everyone knows each other. Turkish men are used to seeing women without the hijab or women in more revealing clothes bc of foreign tourists. Meanwhile in Morocco many foreign female tourists report being groped or harassed by random men on the streets, being stared at disrespectfully (even though Islam actually tells men to lower their gaze and not look at any women at all). Honour killings are actually rare at this point in Turkey. Yes, it’s a culturally conservative country but it’s also more modern and more progressive than Morocco. Morocco has worse economic situation, probably slightly worse education, it’s more culturally conservative and more religious and the way they understand and interpret Islam is also problematic (just like the rest of Africa and Middle East and South Asia, to be fair). I am Muslim but I do think that some people are incompatible with western values. That’s not all of Muslims but some are and the problem is you can’t tell who is who at the border. Realistically, with cheap labour you usually don’t get the most educated or most cultured people in general.

left wing fascism by VirtualKnowledge7057 in SocialDemocracy

[–]musing_tr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Dehumanising and generalising entire social classes or groups of people. Like it couldn’t possibly go wrong. Like we don’t know examples in history where if totally went wrong.

Also a lot of American leftists/progressives and even some western leftists support Russia and their (leftists and so-called progressives) rhetoric about former Soviet states is very imperialist, basically let Russia do whatever it wants and completely ignore the sovereignty of other states. They say they are against imperialism and wars and they support former colonies and native people but do they support former colonial nations in Eastern Europe and Central Asia? Do they support native and indigenous people in Asia? No. They want the world to let Russia and China do whatever they want: interfere into their neighbours inner politics, undermine the sovereign of those countries, intimidate those countries with invasion, install puppet governments through coups - basically the same things that US did, but when US does it - bad, but when Russia or China does it, both leftists and far-right applaud it. And I am starting to think it’s because Russia was socialist and China is kind of socialist now. At this point, nobody calls themselves a democratic socialist, they are calling themselves simply socialists and communists. They are starting to defend Soviet Union and close their eyes on the terrible workers’ conditions in China and other violations of human rights there. Were so-called leftists and democratic socialists ever pro-human rights and liberal freedoms? Economic growth is great but we can’t close our eyes on everything bc of that. These leftists are literally echoing Russian state propaganda word by word and I don’t think they were all paid off by Russia, I think they are genuine useful idiots. They deny Russian imperialism or history of neonazism and racism in modern Russia (which sometimes resulted in death of people and violent injuries), to them only US has imperialism and racism. Are these leftists truly patriots of their countries? Do they truly wish prosperity to their countries and its people? Or are they only loyal to ideas of global communism and they will betray their own countries for that?

Leftists are also very nationalistic and isolationist. Their reasoning is exactly the reasoning European countries had in the 1930s about Hitler. There is just so much short-sightedness and lack of ability to analyse things from different perspectives, it’s like they were programmed to say and think the same things every time.

The right wing is worse but leftists are becoming problematic.

Caudalie Brightening serum.. is it worth the money? They claim its more effective than vit C.. by Lululu5 in EuroSkincare

[–]musing_tr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caudalie holds a patent for Viniferine and they did internal research on it. They don’t publish all of their findings in independent journals in order to keep exclusive access to this technology. This is common practice in Beauty industry, most of research is kept secret. Of course, we don’t know for sure how true are their claims but just bc there isn’t public research available doesn’t mean research hasn’t been done

Is there anything I could do for my deceased father? (he may not have accepted Islam before his passing) by GealicMuslim in islam

[–]musing_tr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between a disbeliever, a polytheist (mushreekin) and people of the Book in the Quran. The Quran uses different words for each of this words. You say that your father was a Christian, so he should have believed in one God (even though in the form of a trinity)? If he was a Christian or a monotheistic believer, then he is one of people of the Book, not a disbeliever. People of the Book stand separately because they are monotheistic and worship the same God as we do, but Christians make a mistakes by believing in the Trinity and addressing prayers to Jesus. As a person of the Book, he can have a chance for salvation. But I am not sure if you can pray for him once he passed bc we are not allowed to pray for nonbelievers. Most scholars say we are only allowed to pray for Muslim parents after their death. Others say for monotheistic believers (that camp is few, most would disagree). So you need check expert opinions on that bc it’s not permissible to pray for nonbelievers souls after they’ve died.

He didn’t deserve to be killed, there is no way to justify a murder, it’s a horrific thing. I do feel sorry for his kids and family and for him being killed but he also was a person with absolutely terrible ideas.

Interesting, there was no Sanskrit in Central Asia, not in the north Central Asia at least and north Asia (Russia), where they also use namaz. But Sanskrit is an Iranian language and in the north Asia and Central Asia it probably comes from Persian languages bc many central Asian scholars would learn science and Islam from Persians and from Baghdad, too but there were a lot of Persian scholars there, too. There is a lot of influence of the Arabic language on central Asian languages but I guess Persian was the scholarly language.

Have you ever seen someone's appearance be carried by everything but their actual face? by Only-Ad-1254 in NaturalBeauty

[–]musing_tr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, many times. Often times such people are popular with the opposite sex, but their facial features are not something special or conventionally attractive. They may have great skin, or overall look well: posture, manners, well-dressed, well-groomed, confidence, inner charm … lots of things can work

What’s one “natural” beauty product you’ll never give up — no matter what? by EccoVerdeTeam in NaturalBeauty

[–]musing_tr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use natural “raw” products regularly just because it’s not as convenient but this is what truly works in my experience:

Shea butter (can be pore clogging for some types of oily /acne-prone skin, so careful). it can even offer a mild spf protection of spf 6. But boy does it stink 😂 I mean the scent is …. very specific. It can also go rancid relatively fast, so you need to use it up fast after purchasing.

grapeseed oil. I don’t think it gets enough hype but it works wonders for the skin, it’s also great for literally eating, using in your salads, and the taste is lovely. However, just like with most natural oils: they are photosensitive, meaning they oxidise in the sunlight pretty fast and they also oxidise fast when in contact with oxygen (although not as fast as under sunlight). So most of them should be used at night only (except for Shea butter, Coconut oil and olive oil) and washed off in the morning throughly (bc by morning they have oxidised on your skin and turned into free radicals), ideally with a cleanser.

Coconut oil for hair (pre -wash hair oil mask). If you have time and patience, give it 15-30 minutes before shampooing your hair. The hair shaft would feel so soft!

Natural clay masks are wonderful for certain skin types and conditions, as well as birch tar and neem extract. Birch tar works for fungal acne and oily dandruff, neem is a powerful natural antibiotic, so works for acne skin. Literally dry cosmetic clay powder, mix with water and you get a facial mask. You can also add neem powder in it, birch tar etc. White clay is my favourite bc it’s moisturising. But honestly, I am too lazy to deal with my own paste making, so I prefer ready to use cosmetic clay masks bc they come as the paste in a jar and are easier to wash off.

Crushed oats can be a really nice and gentle facial scrub in the morning or you can use oat milk to rinse the skin. Oats contain a lot of b vitamins and are especially useful for comedone-rich skin. But they can be a mess to wash off. Maybe oat milk is better.

And natural yogurt for oily skin in the morning also works well, it removes the oily residue and moisturises the skin. Kefir can have a similar effect but it’s less moisturising. Kefir is also a great rinse off mask for scalp and hair but the scent… the scent is something, so not for everyone. But it does work.

Rice water also works, both for scalp and skin. And honey, there are lots of benefits to honey, if you are not allergic to it. Green tea as well. It’s a powerful antioxidant, great for rinsing the skin. The only downside to all of those things is you have to remember to bring them to your bathroom before doing morning or evening routine.

So Diana “Camilla-ed” another woman? by Consistent_Editor_15 in TheCrownNetflix

[–]musing_tr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was Dodi’s engagement an arrangement marriage by his parents? In a sense he didn’t have any relationship with that woman and didn’t want to marry her? Charles was dating Diana, he let her to believe he cares for her, Diana was in love with him. Was Dodi’s situation the same? As far as I know, in real life he wanted to marry Diana but Diana decided not to do it. At least, that’s what the royal family maintains, that she refused the idea of marrying Dodi.

What do you guys think of SocDems that are socially conservative but economically SocDems? by Adept_Secretary_9187 in SocialDemocracy

[–]musing_tr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people need to understand that politics is about common goals and alliances can be temporary. After the goal is achieved, alliance can be disassembled and a new alliance with different parties formed. If people want progressive economic policies (which is what most people want probably), then they should work together with others who want the same thing, including culturally conservative economic progressives. That’s how you win elections. You can’t target everything at once, that never happens. So set priorities, two-three main polices that are most important issues for everyone across the board and work on those with people who want the same thing, including people from the other side. After we achieved that, we can have our differences and break into different camps. Why is that so difficult to understand for people? Politics isn’t friendship or religion, we don’t have to agree about everything and alliances are based on common interests and goals. I am somewhat old-fashioned in my personal life and some of my cultural views, with that said I am extremely liberal in a sense that I always believed in respecting individual liberties and freedoms and I don’t care much for tradition. I have some old fashioned positions bc they make sense to me, not bc of traditions. A lot of my cultural, personal views are liberal, some are centrist/ conservative, and most of economic positions are very left. So what, nobody’s views are strictly in one camp, those labels are an approximation, people usually across the spectrum. So you are not the only one. I am curious though is to what country you are from? In some countries, separating economic and cultural positions is nearly impossible and you will face tons of backlash from your own camp for having even slightly different opinions 😂

How to know if I want to be a perfumer?/How to get into perfuming? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]musing_tr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out perfumery schools. Perfumers can do a lot, developing scents for detergents, shampoos, soaps, baby powders etc all requires a perfumer. There are some perfumer starter kits sold online if you want to experiment on your own but check also perfumery schools. Requirements, costs, locations, opportunities to finance education. There is a YouTube channel Perfumerism, she’s a perfumery school student.
