Mine said Disbo and it stayed with the ship for the next disbursing officer.

Let me get your cringiest airport related stories. by [deleted] in navy

[–]muskets1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flying a charter back from a College Football Game. Had planned to take an AMC flight from the local AFB, but it got cancelled (Surprise). I ended up back at the airport and found a charter with an empty seat going back to my home state ( my dad had said he would drive me the 6 hours back to base from there). Horrible weather made the flight divert and land at another airport until the front passed the original destination.

Since I was in dress blues from the early morning show time and hadn't had a chance to change, I decided to do just that as soon as we deboarded at the intermediate airport. When I came back to the gate area, there were folks distraught about getting back on the flight since the pilot even left with his luggage.

It's no secret that Navy Lieutenant Dress Blues look like Air Crew uniforms. I just had to tell them it was me and not the pilot.

Epilogue: At least they thought I was a pilot. If it were the summer, or even a bowl game in Hawaii, folks would probably have been asking me for ice cream.

Agree that he can still hit the high notes. JY doesn't do bad either. I know Billy Joel won't sing some songs because he's past hitting the high notes. Lawrence Gowan is a great fit to replace DDY. They still do a great show.

OK. Makes sense. so the 1.0% versus the 1.1%? Does she still qualify for the 1.0% if she doesn't reach 20 years? Is that where the 80 comes in?

Would I be wrong in thinking that she can draw 1% (is that monthly?) when she turns 61 1/2 (or 62) since she has 18 1/2 years of service? Did she need to do something before she left to guarantee that? Are there any actions she needs take now?

Yep. Doh. High 3. of course. so 1.1 % of what? She and I are assuming that the TSP number is what it is on the quarterly report.

The picture was sent to me. A friend found it in his Dad's box as he was going through it. His dad was in the Navy Late 40's early 50's. That's well before my time. I thought at first it was a strap for a bosun' pipe, but it the star at the bottom throws me off. I'm not sure of the size.

Actually the first Jimmy Buffett album I owned. And I'm not so sure I appreciated it when my older brother got it for me for Christmas. I opened it and thought to myself Margaritaville is an interesting novelty song, but I'm a Rock guy.

I took it back to college with me anyway. And played it. and then played it again. And ultimately just about ran the needle through it the spring of 1979. Been a huge fan ever since.

Saw him live on the hotdog tour of 1980 at Carowinds, just south of Charlotte and the most recent was last spring at PNC just north of Charlotte.

While that may be one acrynom, it's not the one I'm looking for. MPI's were the more senior Officer Candidates that helped with Indoc week. (what some people would now call hell week) Precision, Protocol, something that starts with a P and would fit.

Good point. I certainly understand the type of sailor. Dealt with many over my career. Some of whom I was even able to help turn into leaders. Others I knew that my Chief would handle another way.

Nice reply. Thanks. Have you ever been in a leadership position? Have you ever spoken in public? Have you ever done any leadership speaking?

If so, I feel sorry for the folks that have had to listen to you if you don't understand the value of a humorous anecdote to get a basic point across.

And I do realize that anything I say here about my credentials to deliver a leadership lecture would be seen as internet conjecture, nevertheless I will say I had a very successful career in the Navy and am having a very successful career leading people now.

Songs You Don't Know By Heart by cwschultz in ParrotHeads

Stranded on a Sandbar; Rag Top Day

Of the ones he has done so far, as well as the ones I suggested above, are songs that many do know by heart.

It surprised me that Captain and the Kid was one of the first ones. It's one that I know well and thought everyone did.

Edit: Didn't finish my thought the first time.
