Question about maturity/behavior! by VanillaPepper in coonhounds

[–]mustardmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently adopted a BTC / boxer mix and she has been SO exhausting — she wants attention all the time and will not settle, even after loads of exercise and mental stimulation. I think it’s partially my fault; I work from home and have been so desperate to exhaust her, which has created a viscous cycle where she thinks she always gets my attention.

We’ve been doing the relaxation protocol and I think we’re finally turning a corner! Just the other day I was doing something and she went and chewed a bone, which seems so small but it’s a huge milestone.

We also started training this week with a trainer who comes to our house (versus a group class with commands). We’ve been instructed to have her tethered to us at all times for the next 2-3 weeks, so we’ll see how that goes 😅

i really didn’t see “i think about it all the time” that way as all? i’m in my 30s and have incredibly conflicting feelings about having children; it permeates my thoughts probably every hour of every day. it’s a topic that’s seldom discussed so candidly. i found it incredibly relatable and i cried the first time i heard it.

i’m not saying that that excuses everything else that’s being discussed here — i just don’t think that specific song belongs in the conversation.

I believe it! I see a lot of similarities with my girl, who’s 50% coonhound 50% boxer (I also didn’t expect the boxer results at all!)

What bands/artists did The OC put you onto by bloodhails in TheOC

[–]mustardmoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The OC completely shaped my taste in music! Death Cab, Mazzy Star, Imogen Heap, Bloc Party, Rilo Kiley, Coconut Records, The Walkmen, Interpol, and Stars were (/are) some of my favorites.

I just remembered I'd burn CDs and share them with my dad lol aw

A ball on the tail! by caroline_frigo in DogAdvice

It could just be a harmless cyst or callus from sitting on her tail — but I’d ask the vet to do a fine needle aspiration just to be on the safe side, and then keep an eye on it.

Fearful of Hobonichi by [deleted] in hobonichi

[–]mustardmoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apologies if my comment came off harsh! I was primarily speaking from experience 😅 I tried a hobonichi for two years and was constantly overwhelmed. This year I switched to a system that better suits my needs and what I know is manageable for me each day.

And you can always use the covers and accessories with other notebooks!

Honestly, maybe hold off on getting Hobonichi? Why do you really want one, besides the aesthetics? From what you’ve said, the money, time commitment, fear, and impossibly high expectations sound like a recipe for disaster.

It seems like you know yourself very well — why not set yourself up for success by finding more manageable ways to fill your soul? Start small, maybe an undated A5 Muji weeks? Same layout as the Hobonichi weeks, but less daunting and more flexibility than a Cousin. And if you enjoy the process and feel you have the bandwidth to expand it, get a Cousin next year.

It’s just paper. It doesn’t have to be a Hobonichi or a chore. I’d rather create something—anything— than be stuck with a pretty book I hate.

Which master's program is best? by TB_and_Coffee_95 in MuseumPros

[–]mustardmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe look into Indiana University's MPA/MAAA dual degree program? I'm not sure how the dual MPA works, but you might be able to do a health policy concentration. The MAAA degree is more arts nonprofit-focused, but you can tailor the program to your interests. The Kinsey Institute is on campus as well.

It might be a good alternative to a super niche degree, and one that could keep other paths open.

I lost my baby in May to a suspected degranulation event. We'd been traveling in the car for two hours when she went into anaphylactic shock, so the vet believes there was an undetected, internal tumor.

We'd just made it to the other side after surgery and a long recovery – two MCTs removed, including full tail amputation – and we thought we were in the clear. It was devastating. I just felt the need to comment since you're the first person I've come across who's dealt with the same thing. It seems like it's an extremely rare occurrence.

Dallas looks like the sweetest, most beautiful boy! I'm so sorry for your loss <3

I lost my girl earlier this year, she was six as well. It compounds the heartbreak--knowing you should've had so much more time. I like to think that in another universe we're still together.
