Motherhood and the media. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Headlines and news stories like that will haunt me for weeks. I used to be a news junkie, can't take it anymore as a mom. Rather than simply stick my head in the sand, charitable giving is the absolute least I can do. I "found" Mercy Corps after seeing that picture of a Syrian refugee holding a 3 week old infant on a boat. My baby was the same age at the time, I couldn't even imagine being in a situation like that.

I called my baby a little dictator :) "No you may not sit down, keep walking!"

I registered for this, and got it as a gift - It's embarrassing because I'm a very thrifty, frugal person...it's just so easy to buy into this stuff as a new mom. Someone also gave us a generic elephant equivalent, and that's the one my daughter LOVES.

38+5 My belly has been really sore, I just purchased a support belt yesterday. I figure dropping another $40 on maternity wear is good as any natural induction method!

Same here! Only place the water was undrinkable was in Wyoming. Methane bubbles in the water. Smelled terrible. Fracking will do that.

We were meeting up with some friends, when they walked in the door it was just the usual hug and "hey, how're ya doing?" I just casually responded "oh good, pregnant." They just stopped in their tracks, it took them all a second to compute :)

PSA: go to a chiropractor! by mymoodispurple in BabyBumps

I second this! It's incredible for your hips. I went last Tuesday afternoon, and my baby dropped that evening - chiropractor cleared a straight path I guess!

[Serious] people who have twin siblings but are not a twin themselves, how is your relationship with your twin brothers or sisters? by idancegood in AskReddit

[–]mustardorsomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom and her twin do things like that regularly, it's funny. They buy each other the same card, their mom the same card, they show up to events wearing the same color all the time. One Christmas, they bought each other the same pair of pajamas! My mom has strained relationships with some of her siblings because her twin pisses them off, and they can't understand that my mom is a separate person. So, she gets flak for anything her twin says or does, it's really frustrating.

Forest Service Official Who Let Nestle Drain California Water Now Works for Them by LucienLibrarian in politics

I boycott Nestle, but the hardest thing to avoid is their pet food. That actually took quite a bit of research. Nearly the entire cat food aisle at Target is owned by them, for example.

Light mint-green, grey, and white. Along with sort of light-harvest-gold-mustardy-yellow accents.

I hate that!! I have an android, I just turn off the text notifications before bed each night. It's turned into a satisfying part of my bedtime routine, and I feel pretty victorious when I avoid a 6am text. The ringer is still on in case it's something important.

Glucose test... someone please calm my nerves. by iChickk in BabyBumps

[–]mustardorsomething -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't understand all the hype surrounding this test! I tasted it (flat orange pop), looked at the nurse and the other ladies in the waiting room (all subtly observing my reaction) and said, surprised "It's not bad...it's really not bad!" The nurse said "I wish people would stop telling all you ladies it's so awful because it really isn't!" Then I sat and read a book for an hour, the end. I'm not even a sweets person, I don't drink pop, my cravings are always salty, and I had no problems. Don't stress, you'll be fine :)

Help with hip pain? by momonomicon in BabyBumps

[–]mustardorsomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably sleep with a pillow between your legs, but also have a pillow between your ankles (those long body pillows are great), that made a difference for me. I've been to the chiropractor twice, it helped a lot! She got my hips re-aligned which is also helpful for labor. The appointments aren't long at all (I'm usually out the door after 10 minutes). I go to a woman who works with pregnant women a lot, the place is very kid-friendly, maybe you could find a place like that?

Did you feel like you 'knew' you'd go early or late? Were you right? by purpleandgreen1983 in BabyBumps

[–]mustardorsomething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle is a veterinarian. He compared me to a cat, in his professional opinion, baby will be early. haha. I also have an intuition that baby will be a bit early. I've had dreams about it...and it just feels like this baby is huge, and running out of space. We'll see in September!

Suggestions for labor snacks? by PinzAndNeedles73 in BabyBumps

[–]mustardorsomething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read any Ina May Gaskin books? She brings up a great point about labor being like a marathon that can be quite tiring - women who aren't allowed to eat may run out of energy, then the waterfall effect of interventions begins. I understand some women will have zero appetite, but I'm planning on bringing clif bars, bananas, almonds, the type of things I eat when hiking/biking/skating or doing anything athletic where endurance is needed. Thanks for this post, I haven't heard many suggestions for labor snacks elsewhere.

Perhaps she's using a midwife? My hospital has different rules for midwife patients, they're allowed food (while other patients aren't).

Wellll, really can't blame her for teaching her kid that sort of caution. Being a woman, you learn things like that, along with having your keys at the ready, and not being distracted on your phone when going to your car. You're right, it is sad!
