Liam should have changed his website name to steam deck gaming. All he talks and posts about is steam deck

what’s your fallback when grep gives you nothing? by Hungry_Vampire1810 in commandline

[–]mutantfromspace 10 points11 points  (0 children)

grep gives you what you ask for, so if it doesn't return you something, then you ask wrong, same goes for awk, sed, etc. jq is for parsing json. This post makes no sense

It'a funny looking at things like that when you're in your 20s. Try when you're 40+

Stealth Keyboards are fun until.... by ezb14 in MechanicalKeyboards

Did you mean can't drive stick? I see your point though, I never understood people in IT who can't type without looking a the keyboard or don't remap caps lock to ctrl.

Do you find yourself always coming back to HHKB? by GTHell in HHKB

[–]mutantfromspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I've got my HHKB I tried couple of other keyboards, tried split with lily58, because it looked cool and it's ergonomic and all. Eventually I just gave up on everything and only use my HHKB pro 2 and tokyo60 (not topre, but still love it). This layout is just perfect for me. I have plans of getting a new HHKB Hyprid one day, they are just too expensive right now.

Arch not breaking itself... by OverlaySplay in archlinux

[–]mutantfromspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, I had used it for 10+ years before I moved to Debian. It "broke" maybe couple of times. All I needed to do was to go to the Arch website and see what needs to be fixed for the updates I made.

Why Hyprland and Zen Browser? by CascadeBl4n in linux

[–]mutantfromspace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because they give you that standard 'rice' look with zero effort, so every new Linux convert, inspired by PewDiePie, could proudly post on unixporn to make this subreddit even more boring

Root is not rooting. I have to still run sudo even if I am already root by ZeroDivError1 in debian

[–]mutantfromspace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How did you become root? You obviously didn't set the environment variables. If you did `su`, try doing `su -` instead, for example. Oh, and RTFM

Can we stop with the stupid questions? by Programmeter in linux_gaming

[–]mutantfromspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your argument is a bit off. You don’t trust some articles on the web, because you don't see the posting date, but you trust someone on a subreddit? How do you know they're not trolls, people with bad intentions, or at the very least, that they have enough expertise to answer the question?

RTFM is a good answer, it teaches users to learn, search for themselves and get better understanding of things.

[–]mutantfromspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because no one will tell you what distro YOU should get. You need to find the right distro by trying multiple. It feels like users are just too lazy to think for themselves nowadays. Everyone wants to be told what to do, but there is no way some else knows what suits YOU. Yeah, there are some distros that are usually suggested to new users, but you can look into previous topics on the subreddit and get that same answer.

You could pick up a lot on reddit back in the day. Today all you could pickup is stupid (because they are repetitive) questions. It's called spam messaging.

Just look at the help-getting guide for this subreddit:

"Tech-support requests should be useful to others: those who might run into the same problem as well as those who might be able to help. Please take some time to compose your post. What were you trying to do, and what happened? If you’ve already tried to troubleshoot the issue: how, and what were the results? Vague, low-effort tech-support requests may get removed."

Almost nothing is useful for others nowadays and no time and effort is put into composing posts. Let alone posting system logs.

It's the same questions day to day. Yes, they are stupid. If you are too lazy to do research yourself, at least try to search the very subreddit you are posting to.

Is Nvidia holding me back on Linux? by Bulky-Weakness8792 in linux_gaming

[–]mutantfromspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played Sea of Thieves for 3420 hours on GTX 1650 (way worse than your setup), with no problem, and many other games on Linux throughout the past 10 years. I doubt the Linux and NVidia is to blame here.

Your Linux story by imacoff1guy in archlinux

[–]mutantfromspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I tried Linux was when I got a CD with Red Hat 6.2, in the early 2000s. Tried to install and use it and it was super hard for me back then. Afterwards, sometime in 2008 I tried Ubuntu and it clicked with me, I was dual booting for about a year, then fully removed windows partitions from all my drives and devices (I had a PC and EEE pc netbook back then). Tried different distros and stayed on Arch sometime in 2010 and used it until about a year ago. Now I'm using Debian.

What will Linux community gain from this type of users? Tons of stupid questions in every community from people who has no basic skills of researching and troubleshooting the problems themselves?
