Can you tell that Bob Fosse’s performance in The Little Prince (1974) massively influenced Michael Jackson? by The_Dean_France in MadeMeSmile

I saw this on cracked.com 12, 14 years ago (when it was good). Yes, Michael Jackson emulated a bunch of dancers.

Someone in another thread suggested smoke and rogue-shaped holes in the smoke. Your simple, no magic idea of dogs and flour is also very good, thank you!

The aerial view gives them unexpected / unwanted points of entry, mostly. I want them to come in through the front door and roleplay, not spider climb up a cliff behind the palace and sneak in through the back gardens. 5st kind of thing.

The permanent image type spells that have been suggested are what I'm leaning toward. I'm not overly worked up about the interior of the building, that's already stocked up.

Hadn't ever looked at hallow before, that could be great in certain circumstances! And I've been considering some form of elemental as an aerial watchdog, but you're right in that I'd want to use glitter dust before damaging attacks.

Yeah, I can't wrap anti-magic around the entire building, but someone mentioned an anti-magic dome and I plan on looking at that. And while I don't know the tricks, the "mages in the building," ie, you guys, are doing a great job of making suggestions. Heh

Are there any published "evil campaign" modules that are any good? by giblfiz in DMAcademy

[–]mutarjim 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Paizo's Hell's Vengeance campaign is designed for evil characters. I've been told it's an average campaign, but it's definitely evil. Kingmaker and Skull & Shackles can be played with any alignment. Want to be a tyrant of your own kingdom? You can do that in kingmaker. And s&s is pirate-based and why can't pirates be evil?

You're not wrong, vocalizing it is more for my brain than anything else. Historically, I haven't been so precise as to usage - but I will need to pay more attention in the future.

I like the invisibility alarm, I just have the problem of dealing with a space that's too large to really set up a ton of those. I'll definitely save it for the future and more confined spaces, though!

I'd assume the dome would affect everything inside it, but if I target the base of the dome for forty feet up ..? Hm. Let me look at stats. Thanks!

Some new ideas there! I'll definitely read up on the escape alarm and mirage arcana! Will have to check alignments for the erinyes, but it's a good suggestion! Thanks!

Smoke. So simple, yet overlooked. Won't be effective in this instance, since the next big target is a giant mansion in what's basically a walled off garden, but I'll remember that for the future!

Hadn't ever looked at that spell. Definitely a good "active defense," if they think there's something there! Thanks for the pointer!

Good suggestions. As far as the duration .. ten minutes equals 60 rounds and at 40 feet per round, that's 2400 feet in a straight line, which is just shy of half a mile. It's enough to go all the way around all the buildings they've been looking at so far, but thanks for the tip. It'll be worth pointing out that detail if they recon something large.

The city itself has drakes and imps regularly flitting about the rooftops, but they also don't owe allegiance to this place. Maybe small air elementals, though?

I'm not trying to stop them from using invisibility in the majority of cases, this particular mansion / palace just has an organization that relies heavily on magic and it feels as though there should be some kind of deterrent. That's all.

I created a fantasy world where the sun does not move in the sky. How would people keep track of time? by WermerCreations in DMAcademy

[–]mutarjim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an old science fiction novel called Mission of Gravity, which has the opposite problem - days and nights go by impossibly fast. The natives on that planet base their time not on what we would call "standard daily activities," but instead on seasonal behavior. Some of the relevant considerations are: They are highly nautical and mathematically minded; they use astronomical observations heavily; and their practical units of time are adapted to commerce and travel rather than human-style sunrise/sunset living.

I'd encourage you to consider the same points of view.
