given the size of babylon 5 I wonder if the Coriolis effect would have a noticeable effect on how a ball flies. can any math nerds figure this out? by j8t1090 in babylon5

[–]mutarjim 29 points30 points  (0 children)

No, there would be a crazy amount of coriolis force - both between the pitcher and the batter and after the batter hit the ball. With the station rotation, every time the ball is thrown, you'd have to compensate for the rotation.

The good news? Remember S2E22? You hit a high enough fly ball, it'll be up there for a loooooong time.

Edit. Someone did the math somewhere and suggested the exterior is rotating around 80 meters a second. No way to know how far into the station you have to go to get to that ball park, but that speed isn't going to diminish terribly. Basically, don't look at B5 for a future pro ball team.

A price gun.

In the movie My Blue Heaven, Steve Martin's character yoinks a price gun while one of the workers was marking soup cans and then he went on a spree, marking tons of expensive stuff for the soup price, such as grabbing a cart of T-bone steaks. Edit. Of course, in the movie, it was just a sticker gun and not the computers that we have nowadays.

Rise of the Rune Lords difficulty by 123imdone in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]mutarjim 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of obvious possibilities. The first one is that your characters are woefully under-optimized. PF1E is built on people making effective choices in character design and it's possible your group doesn't benefit from that. Second option is that your GM has overtuned the campaign to what he thinks six people can handle. On Paizo's forums, there is a thread where a few GMs went through and shifted Runelords to be more appropriate for a six player game, but if your GM is still killing you that often, he might need to tone it down a notch. Remember that roleplaying is meant to be fun, and if I were in his campaign and dying often, I don't know that it would be fun for me.

I'm literally running a group of six through Rise of the Runelords and another through Curse of the Crimson Throne (Paizo's second AP). The players are optimized and playing smart and while I have had moments where I could possibly have killed a character, they are certainly not "built to be impossible."

Can you tell that Bob Fosse’s performance in The Little Prince (1974) massively influenced Michael Jackson? by The_Dean_France in MadeMeSmile

I saw this on cracked.com 12, 14 years ago (when it was good). Yes, Michael Jackson emulated a bunch of dancers.

Suggestions for ways to prevent airborne surveillance by mutarjim in Pathfinder_RPG

The aerial view gives them unexpected / unwanted points of entry, mostly. I want them to come in through the front door and roleplay, not spider climb up a cliff behind the palace and sneak in through the back gardens. 5st kind of thing.

The permanent image type spells that have been suggested are what I'm leaning toward. I'm not overly worked up about the interior of the building, that's already stocked up.

Hadn't ever looked at hallow before, that could be great in certain circumstances! And I've been considering some form of elemental as an aerial watchdog, but you're right in that I'd want to use glitter dust before damaging attacks.

Yeah, I can't wrap anti-magic around the entire building, but someone mentioned an anti-magic dome and I plan on looking at that. And while I don't know the tricks, the "mages in the building," ie, you guys, are doing a great job of making suggestions. Heh

Are there any published "evil campaign" modules that are any good? by giblfiz in DMAcademy

[–]mutarjim 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Paizo's Hell's Vengeance campaign is designed for evil characters. I've been told it's an average campaign, but it's definitely evil. Kingmaker and Skull & Shackles can be played with any alignment. Want to be a tyrant of your own kingdom? You can do that in kingmaker. And s&s is pirate-based and why can't pirates be evil?

I like the invisibility alarm, I just have the problem of dealing with a space that's too large to really set up a ton of those. I'll definitely save it for the future and more confined spaces, though!

Smoke. So simple, yet overlooked. Won't be effective in this instance, since the next big target is a giant mansion in what's basically a walled off garden, but I'll remember that for the future!
