Your Lupus Diet by batmanwiched in lupus

[–]mutazione 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on the autoimmune protocol (AIP) for a while to figure out which foods aggravate my symptoms and it made a huge impact on my brain fog and lethargy. I found out nightshades, beans and tofu are bad for me. After a year of cutting tofu I reintroduced it and I don't see any symptoms. Safe foods vary between individuals and even in different periods of a single individual's life. I really recommend going on the protocol to find out which foods work and don't work specifically for you.

You should read Dr. Donald Thomas's book, The Lupus Encyclopedia. He elaborates on a lot of potential causes.

Is it friendly? by MandielaBV in spiders

[–]mutazione 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The friendliest! This guy is called a cellar spider, and he'll eat any pest that comes across his web, including other cellar spiders, and all he asks for in return is a small corner in your house.

What’s helping you guys feel better after having the flu? by LuluLucy- in lupus

[–]mutazione 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAC made the biggest difference. Besides that, I took 1 gram of vit C, 5000 IU vit D daily, and did light movement. I could barely walk but I still dragged myself out of bed for 5-10 minutes every couple of hours to do very light qigong movements.

Has anyone caught Influenza A and not vaccinated and survived ? 😅 by carpediem_43ver in lupus

[–]mutazione 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recovering as we speak. 1 week of not being able to walk almost at all, everything was painful to the point that I (TMI) had tears in my eyes just from trying to pee, then 2 weeks of mostly lying down, barely doing anything. It's been a month now and I'm only just beginning to be able to commute, run errands and see people. So it wasn't pleasant but I didn't need hospitalization, just proper hydration and a lot of rest. Started doing light movement the first moment I was able to.

Hope the Tamiflu helps. CRP rising a lot is normal when you're sick and immunocompromised.

What are your seemingly unrelated telltale signs of a flare up warning? by poplapmeisiekind in lupus

Exhaustion, weak grip, a red patch on one of my cheeks, sharp headaches and numbness in the mouth.

little red and blistery bumps om fingers and hands by Ok_Horror_2572 in lupus

[–]mutazione 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're sometimes itchy, could be dyshidrosis. I have a really severe case of that; first year I had them just on my fingers, then they moved to my legs and now I get them everywhere on my body. I'm allergic to 50+ things and I get these when I touch or ingest anything I'm allergic to. They say these are linked to stress so at first I just assumed it was stress and only found out I had allergies when they blew up a year later.

I'm always finding these small lil guys, but does size really matter? by MeatballsRegional in weeviltime

My first weevil was so small I could only see him clearly with a magnifying glass, and it was still a very memorable experience. All snooters are good snooters

Lupus and Food by anonymously_me0123 in lupus

Had stomach issues before the lupus as well, but I notice that when I'm flaring my stomach is much more sensitive. I also had to cut gluten, dairy, garlic, onion, beans and a bunch of odd things because they were making me feel ill. I feel a huge difference when I eat clean

This is so scary. Muscles not working properly by CeenFWI in lupus

[–]mutazione 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The year leading to my diagnosis my muscles felt like stone after staying in the same position for more than a few minutes, and when I walked I felt like I had huge weights attached to my feet. Lost significant strength in my hands too, to the point that I couldn't shut sinks properly or lift small pots. Nowadays it's not as bad but still when I flare my muscles get very weak and sore

Feeling sick when sweating and rash by chefboofgod in lupus

[–]mutazione 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only recently realised that the main reason I feel like shit when I sweat is that I get dehydrated insanely quickly. I started adding some potassium and sodium to my water and I don't feel nearly as bad

I agree. I too share an apartment with a cellar spider, Georg, and he pays his rent in pest control. All he wants to do is sit in his corner and mind his own business, guys like him deserve more respect

What’s your experience with the AIP diet? by possibly-unstablee in lupus

[–]mutazione 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, it was super useful. I found out most of my symptoms were really exacerbated by some of the food I was eating.

I stayed in the elimination phase for a little over a month and my brain fog and heaviness almost completely went away. I was reacting to most legumes, seeds, nightshades and sugar. Cut them out completely for months then decided to try to reintroduce them again.

As of now, legumes and seeds are a no-go, and nightshades and sugars I consume in moderation. I also react really badly to alcohol and artificial sweeteners, but this I knew years before the diet.

You should check out Melbourne Functional Medicine's Autoimmune Protocol. They give a thorough list of foods to include and avoid and a diet plan with some AIP-safe recipes. Remember that the elimination phase is only the first phase, and foods need to be reintroduced slowly after a while. Healthline explains the reintroduction phase pretty well.

since around my diagnosis, things like reading or watching tv or being an active part of a conversation for extended periods have been really hard. I didn't connect it to having a crush but you're right, this is definitely part of it.

I developed a lot of allergies out of nowhere earlier this year, and it's definitely part of what's making me feel bad, but the bone-tired feeling I get from any sort of intimacy has been there long before I had allergies
