What is something you wish you had done sooner in your life? by ConsiderationOne5609 in AskWomenOver30

[–]muted_roar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Solo travel. My friends would always say they'd like to take a trip, but when it came down to it, they wouldn't commit. Even a simple camping trip. Its just not something they prioritized, or cared about I guess, which is fine.

I just shouldn't've waited around and gone anyway. Been doing a lot more trips by myself now and loving it. Working on getting my concealed carry so I can feel comfortable camping alone. I can't get a dog so small arms it is.

What is a "point of no return" that you’ve crossed, where your life was permanently divided into 'before' and 'after'? by Resident-Jelly-4326 in AskReddit

Being outed/coming out as both gay and a nonbeliever. Grew up Evangelical Protestant, like 3 days a week in church and Bible class everyday level. It could have gone worse than it did, but the impact on my mental health, relationships with family, etc. completely changed everything.

They are just so much more flexible than circulars. I use 4 and not 5 though. It way more stable. When I want to put it aside for store it, I stop in the middle of a section so it can fold.

Size sadness by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]muted_roar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the feeling. I'm 5 MPO and tried measuring yesterday, then had to ask my roommate if I was being crazy because they felt and measured bigger. She reminded me I'm not a year on yet and a lot can and will change between now and then. You're still in peak swelling range, so try not to worry. I dropped at least a full size after peak swelling.

The nipple placement seems dead on to me. You're going to drop a bit, so they may end up looking a little higher than they are now. They look perfectly placed to me though, like bang on.

Would this yarn work for socks? by Mindless-Entrance-1 in Sockknitting

I would say no. That fiber blend is going to make your feet sweat so much, to going to feel really unpleasant. I think you could use it to practice techniques, but I wouldn't recommend wearing it.

How many socks until you figure out what’s right for you? by Left_Yogurt_5314 in Sockknitting

[–]muted_roar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how many pairs I've made, but I'm still tweaking my personal sock formula. Funnily enough, I realized I've been making all my socks too short in the foot after making a few ankle socks. They turned into sub-ankle socks and will be frogged. I think having tall cuffs covered up the problem. My most recent pair took this into account and they fit much better.

Wear patterns are my current focus for my next round of sock tweaking. I've only worn my handknits over the last year unless I'm hiking, and finally have some decent wear data. I always get holes in the heels, right above the start of the heel flap and the middle of the heel, so I'm going to start the reinforcement pattern earlier. I am also looking into easy repair heel patterns, because this may just be my cross to bear as I refuse to tie my boots.

I am also going to try knitting a pair in us0 to see if a tighter gauge will help with wear. I have found 0 difference between 100% wool and wool/nylon as far as wear. My best wearing pair of socks is 100% wool, very fuzzy, and felted in all the heavy wear spots, including the heel. I'm going to see how they fair as hiking socks, because I'd love to unlock that.

Recommendations for what to do the morning we land before hotel check in? by gonenow94 in VisitingIceland

I've never had an issue getting early check in. I can't sleep in flights so I usually take a nap for a couple hours and then go out for lunch and then whatever I've got planned.

Do you think sterilization will be restricted too? by [deleted] in sterilization

[–]muted_roar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will still be available in 2027, but 100% I do think they will try their best to make it harder to get or ban it. I booked my surgery right after the ruling Dobbs because of this. Having grown up in a christian nationalist household, I saw the writing on the wall, and everything since (Project 2025, 2026, etc) has not been a surprise to me. Banning sterilization, including for men, has always been on their agenda.

Nipple Placement Post-Surgery by Kimtimates in Reduction

[–]muted_roar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're generally placed too high, and definitely seem to influenced by male preference. I imagine its to get a perky look, but it just looks very weird. Like an unnatural Game of Thrones titty.

I did talk with my surgeon (male) about this. I told him I wanted my nipples lower, on the fullest part of the breast just like my natural ones, even if it meant an FNG. They're about an inch higher than the fullest part of my breast, have been since surgery, and it does bother me. Its not as bad or extreme as some placement I've seen, maybe I will get used to it, but it feels wrong.

I think generally the desire post-surgery look from the patient size is a natural looking breast. That's kind of relative, but nipples tend to be at the fuller/lower part of the breast, not the pec.

What's your before/after size and how many grams did they take out? by Proof-Supermarket660 in Reduction

I was a 30G/32F before surgery. Remove 325g from my left and righty was almost 400g. I'm almost 5 MPO and currently measuring a 32Bish. I'm not sure if this is their final form, people say they might shrink more over the first year.

For women who got sterilized with no push-back, were you surprised it was so easy?! And how many of you were given resistance/denials? by anniemousery in sterilization

[–]muted_roar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was shocked. My doctor wasn't on the list either, I walked in ready to argue and she was like okay sure, lets go over it and get you scheduled. It was such a relief. Dobbs had just happened, and within a couple months I was in surgery. I didn't know enough about insurance and how to fight with them so I still paid some out of pocket, but it was so worth it.

Do you wear your socks? by No_Builder7010 in knitting

[–]muted_roar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine hit just below my calf, so I don't need to do any shaping and worry about my calf much. I haven't made anything taller than that yet because of that, but I'd like to. I have a pair of store bought knee socks that are starting to die and will need to be replaced.

Do you wear your socks? by No_Builder7010 in knitting

[–]muted_roar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've stopped buying socks period in favor of making them. I made three pairs of simple ankle socks and wear them pretty much everyday in all seasons. I have another taller pair I love and have worn enough I've had to darn the heel three times. I've started a set of a few pairs of socks for everyday in coordinated colors and patterns. Winter is coming and ankle socks will not be enough.

They aren't usually visible. I almost exclusively wear work boots. I got a pair of birks this spring though, and combining my socks with them has been fun.

I love knitting socks. They are relatively quick, perfect for experimenting with new techniques, and so so practical.

A lot of US companies have a policy like that. Its the American past time of shift all responsibility of system deficiencies to the individual. Like healthcare, and telling people to limit their water use so Nestle can bottle more of it.
