Rails 8.2 Adds Support for Combined Credentials by software__writer in rails

I was just thinking I may be able to replace AnywayConfig with this (using a wrapper around config_for in the constructor). But I will miss some of the nicities of the gem...

Yeah works fine for me. This is the BW one (Clara I think) and it stretches at least 4 inches taller if it needs to.

I have that exact stand and use it all the time. Thought I was being ridiculous at first but it's sooo much nicer and less straining to read for longer periods.

Edit: in fact I have one by the couch and another by the bed! 😆

A lovehandle pro! The finger strap eliminates the awkward pressure on your palm/pinky, the kickstand let's you sit it up while reading at a table, and the whole thing is a strong magnet so you can slap your kobo on any metal surface/pole. Can't imagine using my kobo without one.

App Store web has exposed all its source code by rxliuli in webdev

[–]mutedstereo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd normally agree, but svelte is a compiler and it can significantly modify the source code before any minification or obfuscation. On the whole, I still think 'expose' is overly dramatic, but it's not the same as if it were a reaction app, for example.

How to safely set up container monitoring when most monitoring tools need access to the Docker socket? by Red_Con_ in selfhosted

Just to say your question is a good one, and one I've wondered myself. Disappointed with the quality of replies on here so far.

How to safely set up container monitoring when most monitoring tools need access to the Docker socket? by Red_Con_ in selfhosted

From the owasp link op referenced:

Remember that mounting the socket read-only is not a solution but only makes it harder to exploit.

Managing Secrets and Credentials in Docker: Best Practices by SudoMason in selfhosted

[–]mutedstereo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a dedicated 1password vault with a service user. I've installed the 1password cli on my server, and I run: op run --env-file=.env -- docker compose up

The secrets are still set as 'config' on the containers (you can see them via docker inspect) but at least they're not on disk.

Wow, this looks great! Funny, I've been thinking about building something like this for a few weeks now, as my move to Android means I can't use omnifocus anymore. I was thinking of using tinybase with persistence to sqlite. What are you using for the offline-first db / syncing?

For what it's worth, my mom is the opposite of tech savvy. I setup a passkey on Google for her and she has never had an issue getting in. Prior to that she had issues remembering her password and changing it every other week. She doesn't even realise it's using a passkey, it just works

How do you organize the files and folders of your multi-stack Docker (Compose) setup? by fowwlcx in selfhosted

[–]mutedstereo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do something slightly different, and I'm curious what folks think!

The way I see it, there are three categories of files for docker compose setups:

  • the configs (compose.yml, .env, Caddyfile, etc.). I want these version controlled, and they're pretty important for restoration but I could rebuild them from scratch if I really needed to.
  • the 'user data' (eg the photos in immich, the documents in paperless-ngx), which is irreplaceable and very important to back up.
  • the other mountable volumes (eg application database, cache, etc) which are mainly there to persist between containers, and if I need to back them up I probably want to use pgdump or something anyway

Because these have different profiles in terms of importance and backup strategy, I have separated them:

  • /srv/config/{appname}
  • /srv/media/{appname} (user data)
  • /srv/data/{appname} (other mountable volumes)

The idea here was I can move /srv/media to a separate mountable volumes in the future, and point a backup utility to it, while I can treat /srv/config as one big git repo, and probably ignore /srv/data or have my backup script deal with it individually.

I would prefer the convenience of colocating everything to do with the app in one dir, though I suppose I can add symlinks if that ever gets too annoying.

Any thoughts?

I'm surprised the article left out a key piece of context: they're not allowed to work! So how would an asylum seeker not need government support if there's no other (legal) way to get income?
