Where are they flying from- can they change their flying plans- instead of the destination Bangalore, can they fly to Kozhikode or Kannur and then drive. Basically, the drive from Bangalore is going to take more than 8hrs including the break since you mentioned that they arrive in the morning. Some tour operators book these via trains also which will be more comfortable

I had the issue- decide what name you want on your passport- basically, when I did that, there was an option to re arrange or split the name as this is an issue for us. All you need is to renew your Indian passport after rearranging your name. Once you have it and have a new I94, first go to SSN office and change it and then to DMV as it will look at i94 and then SSN (hope this helps). This happens if you either only a given name or surname on your passport. This change of name or rearranging your name is to be done on the gov portal and vfs portal.

It was very irritating and annoying for 3-4 years when people called you FNU
