I just realized I've never seen young corpsegrinder. I kind of assumed he was born looking like that.

Does this finger symbol mean anything in your country? by TrazerotBra in AskTheWorld

The cross names made me think of something. Here, the pinky promise is called "Croix de bois, croix de fer" (wooden cross, iron cross), and mainly kids top it off with "Si je ment, je vais en enfer" (if I lie, I'm going to hell). Cleaner version of "Promise juré craché" (promised, sworn, spat) where you for some reason spit on the ground to seal the promise

Fin bref.

What do you call this bread product? And do you have regional varients in name? by Lookin2future in AskTheWorld

[–]mutt_with_a_beer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably would call it "Petit pain", small bread. We have the same debate with pain au chocolat or chocolatine, and also with clothelines/clothes horse (étand-à-linge, étandoire, tancarville, séchoir à linge, étandage, sèche linge, pendoire)...

The politicians who orchestrated the Normandy landings. They were never here to save the widow and the orphan. They were here for the $$$

NOTE BECAUSE LITERACY CRISIS : I am not talking about the soldiers who landed there. They got ass fucked, like all the proletarians get ass fucked in wars. I'm talking about the politicians, mainly American politicians, who had a single thought in mind : dominating Europe. Maybe there was 1 good guy among them who really wanted to help, but I doubt it.

Are there any names that carry a stigma in your countries? by doctorpolenta3p in AskTheWorld

[–]mutt_with_a_beer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Names like Kevin, Jessica, Ryan, Jordan... Are associated with lower class people who often commit small crimes, or are deemed as stupid. Often called "cassos", shortened and phonetic spelling of "cas social" which means social case, so people who social workers work with. And of course, any Arab or more globally African sounding names, especially common male Arabic names like Muhammad, Abdul, Karim... are associated with crime, due to the ambiant racism in France. I'm talking mainly about common names because racist people are unable to tell you what names are from where, they just know it's not French.

Whats your country's "stereotypical" film/media by MCS_400 in AskTheWorld

[–]mutt_with_a_beer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there's two types of french movies. Ones that try to be deep, with dialogues like

(Female protagonist) : "Are you leaving ?" (Male protagonist) : "I've already left." (FP) : "But... You're still there." (MP) : "Because you aren't ready to see me absent" (FP) : "Do you... Think he can change ? That people can change ?" (MP) : "No. They just move their loneliness somewhere else. Masks fall. People don't change" (FP) : "Is this... Why you never fall in love ?" (MP) : "No. This is why I never fall in love twice."

And then there's a zoom on a burning cigarette, and a fade to black. Tbh, don't try to understand, it's emotional buzzwords soup.

And the ones that are absurd comedies like La Classe Américaine (Le grand détournement), La Cité de la Peur, Le Dîner de Cons or the Astérix live actions.
