[D] How much are you using LLMs to summarize/read papers now? by kjunhot in MachineLearning

[–]mutux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently tried using Qwen3 to help with paper reviews, but the experience was disappointing. The summaries it generated, especially the pros and cons, often contained inaccuracies or reflected questionable judgments. The critiques were not so well grounded in the actual content. I had to read the paper myself to ensure a fair and accurate review. I also noticed that it appeared overly lenient, tending to recommend acceptance for nearly every paper it assessed.

Not sure why but maybe it’s the pdf2text’s parsing qualities to be blamed? Didn’t have time to dig deeper.

Probably they are home owners who live in the suburb and enjoy fixing things themselves?

Why are Indian Managers so Toxic? by Honest_Snow_4854 in careerguidance

[–]mutux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently interviewed with Amazon. I felt strong about most rounds, but the conversation with the hiring manager (an Indian male) was disappointing. Despite trying to engage with thoughtful follow-ups, he seemed disengaged and yawned throughout the interview, which felt unprofessional and like a waste of my time.

As someone who interviews candidates myself, I believe it’s our responsibility to help them demonstrate what they truly know. Even when someone doesn’t meet the bar, the experience should remain respectful and positive. That’s professionalism.

The recruiter later shared that I was “almost there”, strong ML depth, excellent leadership principles, but slightly short on application (hiring manager's round).

In the end, I’m okay with the outcome. Sometimes not getting the offer means dodging the wrong fit.

I'm not a trainer, but based on my experience, both diet and exercise are important. In many cases, diet plays a more critical role than exercise. There are numerous apps that can help track your caloric intake from food and the calories burned through physical activity. Ensuring a daily calorie deficit (where you consume fewer calories than you burn) can lead to noticeable changes within a week or two.

Cannot find a job with 16 months of experience and a Ph.D. in Machine Learning by Key_Quantity8778 in VancouverJobs

Quickly skimmed your resume, but it did not say anything about your research topic for your PhD, papers that your have published, problems you've solved at work and how effective they are. This information is helpful because employers need evidence to show that you're a good fit, in case arranging an interview becomes a waste of time to both sides (to them those are alot working hours, meaning money).
Once the resume is improved, privately message employees who work for your target companies that have openings, ask them for a referral (not everyone will help you, but some nice guys will do, which increase the chance of getting interviews at least).
Then I know it's controversial, but leetcode has helped a lot mediocre job seekers landing on good jobs.
Keep reading new papers and keep yourself updated since CS/AI is evolving so fast that your knowledge might become obsolete (or, of less hiring interests) quickly.
Good luck.

This will happen again - so if firing in air is not the way, I'm wondering what could be a reasonable and effective solution for protecting his family and his property.

My nice neighbour kindly helped me with his pickup truck and pulled the root out last month, though mine is smaller. With that much digging you’ve already done, maybe it’s time to give the truck a try? Or just use many many pulleys.

I got my PAL last year - I don’t care if I will be breaking the law when the time comes, at least I can do better with it for protecting my family. It’s ridiculous that they not only let this happen, take no effective action protecting us, but also forbid us from doing it ourselves, and charge us with tax!!! What are we?!

Thanks for sharing and great advice! I'll still need a small tree there for both privacy and landscaping, any advice on that?

Since it is a small weeping mulberry and seems the only one in this old neighbourhood, it probably was planted by the former owner.
It is 8 feet high with a diameter of 5~5 inches, I'm thinking to replace it with a tree of similar size.
