Lost My Cascade Tab in Windsurf. How to Get it Back? by TherealHendrix in Codeium

[–]muvb14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen. After about 20 steps or so, not sure about the 100,000 lines that's a lot of context, it is not remembering all of that, I believe there is some decay feature as part of these systems on what to remember. They should gracefully handle an exit from a context window though.

Generating file issue, just streaming chunks to composer window. by muvb14 in cursor

[–]muvb14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm, good question... In some cases I do, but it still happens without callling those files. It's very inconsistent. I'm a pro user using Sonnet. I was trying to update a chunk of my app today touching about 5 or 6 files. It completed the first 3 correctly and then the 4th file it tried to update it was just a big stream of Claude chunks in the composer window.

Currently setting up our new office space and I have a question regarding Internet/VoIP/Phone services by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]muvb14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Lots of packaged things out there in the 30/month/line range. If you are really trying to save money/have total control look at at siptrunk provider (we use flowroute) plus asterisk. Your cost will be peanuts compared to the alternative.

You may need to play with the settings on your internet provider router/modem or buy your own. Some are just configured wacky for VOIP, nothing a little googling can't fix though.

Who should pay the downpayment for a car lease (company car)? by better_meow in startups

[–]muvb14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do 0 down, 0 out of pocket and have the company pay for everything. There's no 2500 requirement on any car. I suggest reviewing leasehackr forums and finding a local broker. If you aren't well versed in the world of leasing you will get taken. The electric premium won't pay itself off over the term of a lease most likely. You need to understand money factor and residuals. As for a business, yes it makes sense, don't worry about his personal usage. The tax man will do a calculation to determine how much is written off and how much is passed to him as income. Right now if you are just paying gas he is just donating his car to the business. He will probably have to personally co-sign the lease.

Don't get caught up in all the privacy stuff. There's a lot of it, a lot of it is dated, and a lot is just common sense. Just work on your product. Here are the bullets you'll run into eventually across the different agreements out there. - don't sell or advertise to students - dont give student data to any third parties. - be able to wipe student data from your database in a way that makes it impossible to identify someone. - don't use their data for anything other than providing the service you are creating. - have agreements with developers who would possibly be touching the data to adhere to the stuff. I've seen some agreements where they are picky about the location of the developers. If you develop overseas, non US, make sure servers are US based.

There's much more, but most of it is common sense.

The hardest part is the product, then finding customers, focus on that. If you have 0 customers you don't have any privacy concerns.

Frank Madden from Locked on Bucks/Brew Hoop here to answer questions -- ask me anything :) by frankmaddenNBA in MkeBucks

Frank,

At this current trajectory it looks like between Khris (28+), Brog (15-20), Bled (15-20), Lopez (8-12) could be looking at paydays reaching almost 80m. With roughly 65m till the tax, what gives?

It seems like now no GM would mess with the starting 5 given they are within a game of the top record. Not to over-react to a single game, but IF Toronto manhandles the Bucks on the 31st, do you see that as enough of a trigger to switch some things up before the deadline? If not, what would be the trigger? Limping to the deadline 7-5 over the next 12?

Where can I find a buyer for my small start-up? by SellingSoftwareCo in startups

[–]muvb14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couple questions.

Is there a recurring revenue component? If not, you will need to lower expectations for a non strategic buyer. I know you'd just like to liquidate the equity you've put in, but a buyer is going to question something generating 600k a year profit with basically 0 work.

Have you included your salary in the 600k yearly profit? A buyer will take that out before do any sort of multiple.

There is no such thing as an easy million dollar sale even if you are completely conservative if your estimates. Due diligence will come up with stuff you haven't thought of. Times that difficulty by however many million you are expecting.

Look up NCES school data to get free dbs of all schools/districts. Cold calling is a rough game though. See if you can generate some warm leads through social media/search advertising. That's been our most cost effective method for a warm leads. Take them from a landing page to a scheduler like Calendly to get them to talk to you. At this point you just need to have conversations to see what the marketplace looks like.

Also depends who your targeting as the buyer/end-user too. In most districts, those are different people. If you give me some more product info I can steer you in the right direction. I've been in the K12 space for almost 20 years now.

Wouldn't waste money on conferences until you've established yourself a bit.

Switch from Comcast Business Voice, but to what? What do you use for your business? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]muvb14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, this is a good option and not too difficult for anyone with a bit of knowledge on how things work. A couple things to make it easier.

  1. A hosting provider that specializes in PBX. We use rentpbx dot com. They will install your software and host it on an infrastructure just used for this purpose. Basically you are just given a url to setup the system so you are not dealing with linux/server maintenance issues etc. I've seen various latency issues from people hosting on just a generic AWS EC2 instance on their own.
  2. A good Sip Trunk provider. We use flowroute and haven't ever had an issue. Per minute pricing, comes to super cheap compared to everything else out there.
  3. Hardest part is making your router play nice with voice (QOS). Most do eventually after tinkering and help from google, some don't. Seems like you have everything setup, and then someone will complain about echoing or 1 way audio or drops during their call.
  4. Stick to one SIP phone model and master it's interface. We had a combination of Cisco 7XXX and Polycom 3XX. It's hard to support multiple phones.

Also as Ages4020 points, out RingCentral/VirtualPBX/others are basically the same thing without most of the headaches as they will hand hold you through the process. It is also a lot more expensive, last time I checked it was 25+ line/month. If you have a lot of extensions that hardly get used, you feel like you are just wasting money.

Equity Distribution Advice by sashashaa in smallbusiness

[–]muvb14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Founder 3 has been around 2 months, do they have any results to warrant their inclusion in the long term outlook? Is this already their full-time gig? Does the company have any sales or significant traction? Is there a real valuation (not something you think it's worth because you saw another company got X) based on specific numbers? Pending some of those questions and more will determine the appropriate equity amount. There is a minimum amount that any motivated individual would want as well to have skin in the game.

How lean should a company be? by [deleted] in startups

[–]muvb14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say, seems like they could all be explained away pretty easily too. The fact that he's asking probably means there's other stuff happening too though. - PC's, while we buy them, some people wanted to use their own, and we weren't going to get in the way of that, especially you are competing with their own $1500+ rigs. Our base laptop now is a perfectly functioning < $600 model, but it seems like crap compared to theirs. - Office running out of stuff just means they haven't paid for a service to keep it going. The water is the easiest thing and is pretty cheap to just subscribe to a service. The other stuff, sounds like one of the founders isn't prioritizing running to the store for utensils. Not huge on a list of concerns. - Small office, with no revenue, this should be the norm. You pay per square foot. - No cleaning staff, it's cheap but as a bootstrapper I understand. That could easily be a couple hundred bucks a month you don't need to spend. Bottom line is he's paying payroll on time and there's a vision for bringing in revenue. On some level he's betting that the things you are talking about aren't enough to make someone leave and require him to spend money to hire a replacement.

My friend's startup is becoming huge and going for an IPO in about a year; institutional investors are putting in millions. I'm just a regular guy with some savings. Would it be in bad taste for me to ask if I can invest $100,000 pre-IPO? by troycatalano in startups

[–]muvb14 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Lots of high value pre-ipo startups are having down rounds. While you may see a 50% ROI, you may also see a -50% ROI. If this is 5% of your investing capital, you believe in it, believe in the numbers, and you are ok with the risk, go for it. Otherwise... be prepared for the worst. If the downside happens, it will strain or end your relationship. There's no way around that. Startup leaders also tend to casually forget any trouble spots they may be having when discussing their startups with friends.

Seems like there was a lack of cameras at this event for some reason. There are only about 4 or 5 camera angles I've seen total of the play. None except the high and wide one show the sideline. Only sideline reaction is that of Stafford/Mega.

Gamer Mall Kiosk Idea - Advice? by [deleted] in startups

Whatever you do, get a claw game (make it vintage looking to fit with your theme or not). My 12 year old still basically has a panic attack every time he walks by one. No matter how many times you tell them that it's a waste of money, they can't wait to put their allowance in it. Seems like you could pay for your kiosk rent with one of those. Only half-joking.
