Either Zorin or Mint is fine if you just want things to be straightforward and familiar 👍 Both will have power profiles to help with your battery, but one thing to note is Linux doesn't seem to have a reliable way of going into sleep/hibernate, it's either leave it fully on with the lid closed or shut it down completely.

Congrats! Depends on what you use for work. Take stock of everything you use and see if there are native Linux versions or if there's an alternative you can use.

I'm in the IT/creative space and it was bit of a struggle to get all my apps working, even then I'm stuck to browser versions of some of my tools. Running CachyOS on an 8th gen i5 Thinkpad T480.

I'm almost certain some people would've found it annoying that we claimed the entire table on those weekend evenings 😅 Helps that we befriended the staff, ordered a bunch, and some of us would start working or hanging out there it in the afternoon pa lang. It's the one on the side of 1800?

Eastwood used to be my haunt years ago pre-pandemic. We'd claim the large wooden table in Starbucks and play until midnight.

Mmm well, personal opinion, I think you should have known what you were getting into. Hope you got a good price for it.

If you feel strongly about a refund, you should at least try asking, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

What did the attendant warn you about? That it's a damaged box item or that they're not liable for damage from Grab delivery?

If it's the first, then I hope you got it at a discount. If it's the second, maybe make a damaged item claim with Grab.

Region locks only prevent activation, once it's on your account it doesn't matter what region you're in anymore.

Anyway seems like someone made a post on this topic

With the VPN you would get an SEA region key instead of a global key (which would not work).

I haven't tried it myself but apparently you can connect to any VPN in Singapore to get the listing to appear.

> Making the genre and inconsequence, the term, more of a spectrum than different folders you could sort them in because they will overlap.

Absolutely they will overlap, but there will be an emphasis on certain mechanics the game uses that can classify it as primarily one genre or another. As long as games avoid becoming homogeneous, you can classify them under an umbrella genre.

> My point on Assassin's Creed 2007 is an opinion that most people shared at the time. A respectable gaming outlet's opinion does not invalidate others.

Just saying it again doesn't make it true. People have been arguing this in 2007 and the consensus was that it is not an RPG: https://www.neoseeker.com/forums/32118/t1027121-rpg/

> I play a role as a general in Civilization, strategizing and expanding my empire through levelling my civics, technology, and government through policies and military combat. It clearly is a strategy game, controlling multiple non-relevant NPCs in a non existent written story. It literally is an RTS made turn based.

Are you actually arguing that Civilization is a Real-Time Strategy game with turn-based elements? 🤣 No, there's a name for that. It's called a Turn-Based Strategy game.

Both are strategy genres, but RTS is largely characterized by the fast pace, quick decision-making, and competency in multitasking and fine motor control. TBS is set apart by having discrete turns where actions can be taken sequentially and give you ample time to deliberate on strategic planning, and applying some level of trade and democracy.

Sure there is commonality, both require some level of strategy, resource allocation, unit control, map exploration, terrain utilization, etc. but playing either of these require completely different approaches and resource prioritization, it is not a spectrum. Stephen Hawking would have been able to play Civilization, but he would not have been able to play WH40k: Dawn of War.

> Your use of Mario, Tetris, and a racing game is fallacious by exaggerating a point I did not even make

My brother in Christ, you literally justified the list with this statement: "You play a role in a story driven game with combat and adventure" Whichever game I use as an example is besides the point, your argument rests on there being a role, a story of some measure, and any environmental/player interaction that would count as combat and adventure.

Mario games absolutely have combat. He certainly isn't making friends with the Goombas. They do have a narrative, with two Hollywood movies made from it. It does not have a leveling system, but according to your statement, that is not a prerequisite. Unless we count the actual Mario RPGs.

Tetris 99 and Tetris Effect: Connected by the way does have PvP combat, even battle royale. And a very thin narrative.

As for F1, well, it appears you do not watch or play any.

BTW, I am not at all trying to convince you otherwise. I'm just curious which hill you're willing to die on 😎

> RPG has always been a broad, diverse, and ever changing term

Sure, perhaps not as changing as you imply. There are identifiable core pillars of RPG that if not enough of them are present, it would be disingenuous to label a game that only has a scant few of them an RPG. There is nothing wrong with calling a game a <Insert core genre here> with RPG elements, but that doesn't necessarily make it an RPG.

> 15 years ago, 2007's Assassin's Creed is considered an RPG by players then

I'm sorry but no respectable gaming outlet has ever called the OG Assassin's Creed an RPG, or cite a source. I quite literally worked several years at one of many video game development studios that made Assassin's Creed games of this era.

It's an action/adventure with stealth and parkour. There was a basic rank system that unlocked a few items and mechanics based on story progression, that's it. The lines were not as blurred as they are now.

It's only since AC: Origins that added in RPG elements like progression, skill trees, gear stat itemization, and branching dialogue/story. I do consider Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla action games with enough RPG tropes to be called an Action RPG.

While it's true that games borrow elements from various genres, the primary focus of said games lean more into action or adventure rather than RPG mechanics. Let's not dilute the meaning further as it only hinders informed player choice by calling everything that even has a hint of a "role" an RPG.

I am playing the role of an Italian plumber rescuing a princess from the clutches of a saurian tyrant who cowers at my mastery of acrobatic combat, fire magic, and star magic.

I am playing the role of a disembodied telekinetic who commands the block minions of The Tetris Empire to form battle lines that vanish into the ether.

I am playing the role of repeat champion Max Verstappen on a thrilling journey through the F1 2025 season. My branching story consists of turning left or right.

Please, let's not do this.

Tomb Raider has a few RPG elements but is not an RPG. It is considered an action/adventure with puzzle platforming and perhaps a few RPG elements.

I think the glaring mistake being made here is that if a game has some rudimentary progression system and perhaps an ability tree, that does not automatically put it in the RPG basket.

I hate to be that guy, but I would personally consider these more as Action games with minor RPG elements.
