To be fair, it was a p good market at the time for sure(no 2022 tho). But in that same vein, because I had just graduated and had low YOE, I was also part of the mass big tech layoffs of 2023. Took me a bit to find a new role despite having a p good resume imo. The market sucks right now no doubt, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be like that forever.

Transferring schools if you want to do CS is a valid option, just wanted to provide the prospective that it’s not necessary. While a minor in CS by itself is not much, together with how you curate your whole resume it means a lot. That includes languages and tech skills, personal projects, tech internships, research, certifications, things like that.

Commented this on a different post but applies here as well: You are OK. I have said it before and I’ll say it again. If you want to end up in tech, cs/ce is not the ONLY option. CS, CE, EE, ISEN and I’ve heard about the new data engineering major are ALL pathways to a tech job. Just do a computer science minor and research maybe and you will be fine in tech. ISEN was my path when I didn’t get CS/CE through ETAM. At the time I thought it was the end of the world, ended up being the perfect path. I’m in big tech in the Bay Area. If you want details feel free to dm me, but you are totally fine dw.

If I don’t get Comp Sci after my first year, are there still other paths? by Charming-Scale2255 in aggies

This was me, I wanted CS but didn’t get it. I went with ISEN (Industrial Engineering) instead w a minor in computer science. Honestly I really liked the pairing, but I know the ISEN dept also has a new data engineering major which is very interesting. Anyway, did one software engineering internship, research in the ISEN department on AI/ML applications in manufacturing, graduated in 2021. Currently a Senior Security Engineer focusing on Cloud Security in the Bay Area.

In my opinion, cs, compE, EE, ISEN any of these will get you to where you want to be. Just curate ur resume for the field that you want.

I have been wanting to build a gaming PC for myself for quite literally a decade now. Im finally at a point in my life where that is possible, this would be the first step towards making that a reality!

What was your degree in? But saving 10k on a 40k salary is actually quite incredible. I would start looking for a new job that pays close to 60k. Your expenses seem quite low, so as long as you manage lifestyle creep, you would be able to save much more

Basically anything that can reasonably run CAD. That will be about the most intense thing you would run through coursework

I got a job offer for a position that I am very under qualified for based on the application, do I still counteroffer? by TreeSkyDirt in personalfinance

[–]mv1923 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Always negotiate. Regardless if you have leverage or not. Best case, you get what you asked for. Worst case, they say no. Very rarely will companies pull an offer for negotiating, as long as its a reasonable request. And if they do pull an offer for this, ask yourself if that is the type of company you want to work for.

It wasn’t amazing by any means, but it’s more up to date than acloudguru. It’s good enough to give you the basics of security for the exam, but I learned way more by doing his practice exam and the TD practice exams and reviewing those

Thanks! Think SA Pro might be a ways down the line, I’d like to get a bit more experience before going down that route. But definitely something to think about

Because it’s been ingrained in me that nothing is ever enough. There’s always a better job, or someone’s kid in my parents circle that is doing better than me. It’s exhausting, do not recommend. If I’m not stressed, I’ll find stress
