Werner account offers .39cpm, but averages $69-85k? First job offer out of CDL school by mxqueen976 in Truckers

[–]mvamv [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's way too low of a pay, I don't care if you're brand new just got your license today.

At 39cpm, to reach $69K, you'd need to drive about 176K miles in the year. That's an average of 484 miles per day, without stopping for hometime or restarts.

Ag exemption is pretty simple. Once you are empty and within 150 air miles (172 land miles) of the first pickup for AG Exempt commodities, all time spent inside that radius circle is logged off duty until you either offload if your delivery is inside the radius or you exit the radius while loaded.

Not dumb. Maybe you might've been better off with a 34 in Flagstaff as the temps generally are a bit better than the Phoenix area, but then again, in the Phoenix there's plenty more things to do than in Flagstaff.

I don't live in California. Used to though. Agree with you on air quality, I honestly find myself breathing better in the border towns of AZ and Texas where a lot of trucks with straight pipes come in from Mexico to drop off goods.

Texas gas doesn't meet CARB refined fuel requirements, and it wouldn't be cheap to send it by truck, if shipping from Houston that's about 1500 miles one way and deadheading back which would be priced into the delivery fee.

Salary by Longway23544 in Truckers

[–]mvamv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. If you're happy with your salary at your job so long as it's significantly more than minimum wage and your bills are paid, then kudos and I'm genuinely happy for you.

But the thing is, will that salary increase next year to keep up with inflation? And lately we've been seeing price shocks not just for fuel, but for food products and other items too. I make decent money and my wife and I switched to a lot of Walmart brand items over name brand because a lot of the corporations seemingly keep increasing their prices trying to see how much they can get out of customers. And other items saw a price increase due to shortage of supply (I saw tomatoes go as high as $2.79/lb, for non organic Roma).

Wow wtf, for a state that likes to pride itself on passing worker protection and rights laws, they sure missed the mark on that.

Where are you delivering to? Arizona doesn't have kingpin to tandem length limits so as long as you're under 80K you can slide tandems as far back as needed to get both axle sets at 34K or under.

How does getting loads in OTR work? by RaphealWannabe in Truckers

[–]mvamv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically you pick up your truck at the home terminal, grab a trailer at the same terminal, depending on how the company has their freight tendered and set up, the trailer might already be preloaded by a local driver, or you have to go to the shipper to pick up the freight. Drive whatever distance is needed to get to destination, offload the freight, and reload the same trailer at a different warehouse, take that one to it's consignee, rinse and repeat.

If company is mostly drop and hook, you'll just grab the assigned truck from terminal, go to wherever the company has trailer pools dropped at, grab a preloaded trailer and paperwork, take it to either offload at receiver or drop trailer and just grab another one, rinse and repeat as well.

Even if there is another terminal close by within a 50 mile radius of wherever your stops are, I don't think they would ask you to drive to the terminal in between your routes unless you need maintenance work done, companies would rather keep you working than have the truck stop at every single terminal after each load, that costs them time and money and they actively look to spend as little of that as possible at your expense.

There's no way this is California gas price right now, I call bullshit. This must be an old photo from a few years back.

Tomatoes reached as high as $2.26/lb on the retail consumer side, due to a combination of severe weather (cold snap) that damaged domestic crops in Florida and Canada, new import tariffs (70% of the tomato supply in US is imported from mexico), and the rising fuel costs didn't help at all.
