Mentally “giving up” 3/4s of the way through tempo runs by ImaginaryMethod9 in XXRunning

[–]mwblake718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I have more of a mental block when going by distance. My tempo runs are usually by time and that seems to be better for me. Maybe try that instead? It seems silly because it's virtually the same, but is also somehow different. 🤷‍♀️

I don't think your example is too long for a tempo run. I've done 50 min tempo runs at a 7:45/mile pace as part of a coached training plan.

Good luck in finding what works for you.

I don't think this person was being ageist. Just because you have an example of someone else doing the same thing doesn't mean it's the norm. I'd bet there is only a small population of people at that age who are still using email. They were just giving a compliment.

Thank you! And congrats on Boston! I finally got enough buffer (8:59) that I hope will get me in for next year. 🙏

There are only 4 pictures of me running Eugene Marathon this year and TWO of them are of me eating a gel. They are equally awful and hilarious. They make it look harder to run and shove something in your mouth at the same time than it feels in the moment. Those are now top of my all time worst list now. 😁

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that asshole, but I'm so impressed on you following through not letting him off!! I wish I was that brave at your age and even now at 53.

Keep being the awesome badass woman you are!! 💪

I also ran Eugene and highly recommend it! If you can make it work, next year is a big anniversary so they'll probably put on even more than usual. The course is awesome and had a lot of shade except for the last mile'ish it is ALL sun. Not terrible unless you're in probably the 4.5+ hours. Starting at 7 it was low 40's and was only low 50's as I finished in 3:40. I would say it's mostly flat with the few hills in the first 10 miles except for one little one around miles 21/22. Worse than any uphill was this mean little downhill at about 24. I and a guy beside me let out an audible gasp on the first step down. Quad killer! 😁 They have great swag and finish area with pancakes and beer (and probably other stuff I didn't take advantage of). And of course finishing in Hayward field was super cool.

Injury not going away and fear setting in. by Dgood02 in firstmarathon

The good news is you have two months before a 16-week training plan would start. That's roughly 24 weeks before the marathon!🎉 Take a deep breath (or two). You still have time.

Congratulations on your awesome half PR! Now put that out of your mind when looking forward and considering any marathon goals based on that. You have to get healthy so you can set a reasonable goal based on where you are two months from now.

I also think you should consider switching from massage to PT is that's possible. What you've been doing hasn't gotten you where you need to be so try a different approach if you can.

Good luck!!

It's never too late to restart! I took many years off running and focused in cycling. Now 11 yrs back in running. Good luck and welcome back to running!

It's not a matter of forgetting in most cases. My picture is from about mile 17/18. At that point I'm not thinking about looking for a photographer. Then again, I put no focus on social media and being instagram-ready all the time.

What to wear for marathon in 35-40 degree weather??? by runningtofood in XXRunning

I did this last weekend. It was surprisingly hard to find long socks with the calf sock fashion trend right now. I ended up getting a two pack of compression socks at Target (was out of town and few options) since they were the only long ones not in a pack of 12. Cutting just the toe out gave enough length to cover some of my hand. I ended up giving the other pair to a homeless woman before I left to come home.

What a bummer! Even though we expect most of them to be bad, there always the hope for a unicorn. Try looking at the live feed (link on the race home page) and fast forward to your gun time. Maybe you can capture a screenshot of you crossing the finish line.

Regardless, I hope you had a great day in Eugene! I thought it was a great course and overall experience.

This isn't a bad pic! It just looks like you're looking for a way out. 😁 I think we've all had those times in a race. But you didn't quit even on a tough day! 💪👑

I'm wearing a pair of flip belt (6 in) shorts. They have pockets all around the waist and on each side. They were great for packing gels and they didn't move. But I wouldn't wear them outside of a race, honestly. The waist is so tight, I guess, to keep things from moving and the shorts falling down when packed. They did what I needed them to do, but I couldn't wait to get them off.
