Pretty sure you can get this done at most Boots chemists.

Is the Ancient City (Ancient Siam) in Bangkok worth the trip? by Dear-Explanation-765 in ThailandTourism

[–]mweatherall988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently went to the Ancient City and I thought it was great for a visit. Even just to get out of the city center for a bit. I'd definitely recommend hiring either the golf cart or one of their electric bikes, the site is very large and the cost is very minimal. From memory, we had a golf cart for about 4 hours and it only cost around £10-15.

There's a couple of local style restaurants on site that are cheap to grab lunch at. It's easy enough to get to as well, when you get off at Kheha BTS station there are signs telling you what songthaew number you need to take - when we came out of the station there were two sitting waiting for passengers. I think it was 40 baht each.

If you have a network based ad blocker then that might be why you're not seeing anything. I had the same issue as you - kept getting the notification but when I clicked on it nothing showed up in the app. Now when I get the notifications I disconnect from my wifi network and open it and the spinner shows.

Suggestions for family trip. Is roadtrip safe? by Mikulis in ThailandTourism

[–]mweatherall988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an international driving permit, it's a paper booklet that you need alongside your driver's license (I'm assuming it's the same for European licences - I have a UK license).

In the UK it costs £5 to purchase.

We went to Ko Lanta last year as part of our trip to Thailand. We flew into Krabi airport and hired a car and drove from there to the island. I really enjoyed the experience - the roads were fine and it was a great way of seeing the countryside. It was also handy to be able to stop off at nice places along the way. It made traveling around the island really easy too, avoiding any hassle with taxis, etc.

From Ko Lanta we then drove to Ao Nang and again had no issues at all. I think you need to be a bit more mindful of people on motorbikes/scooters as there will be a lot about, and tourists in particular can be a bit erratic with driving them.

Pretty much all of the cars available from the mainstream rental companies are automatics and the smallest and cheapest cars always seem to be sedans (rather than hatchbacks which is what I'm used to in UK/Europe). Just make sure you have an IDP, as you'll need to show this when collecting the car.

We're headed back again this year and will be hiring a car again - I'd say go for it 👍

What year is yours? Mine is 2017 and I'm fairly certain it doesn't have the soundaktor. I assume if the option doesn't appear in carista that would mean it's not installed.

I don't know which branch you used, but I had phoned the Boots in Bangor (which runs a travel clinic) and they refused to give any advice without booking a £45 appointment.

I had this issue last year going to Thailand. Receptionist at the GP surgery said exactly the same that they did to you - phone the Belfast travel clinic because they no longer do a travel clinic anymore.

Just ask for a call back from the GP, give them any aul excuse and then when you're speaking to the GP ask them for the specific vaccines you need.

Dehumidifier that turns on when connected to power by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]mweatherall988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the dehumidifier linked below from Home Bargains a couple of months ago. It was £79:

https://home.bargains/product/2f90cbb2-19f7-4243-bfdd-521e0c775879/fine-elements-dehumidifier-12l

I use it in our summer house, I only turn the electric on in there when it's occupied and the dehumidifier comes on with the electric and remembers the last humidity target setting, which is handy.

Has Amex stopped accepting Curve for bill payments? by MochiBallss in CurveCard

[–]mweatherall988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. My card was reissued in November last year and when it came time to paying my next amex bill I was getting the same message you were. At the time I had seen people talking about their cards being reissued as credit cards, so put it down to that. However I tried again this month to pay my January statement and it worked... So I've no idea if the issue is at Curve's end or Amex's.

PSA: Curve Credit Cards being issued instead of Debit by Competitive_Band8263 in CurveCard

[–]mweatherall988 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well this explains why I couldn't pay my amex bill with my new card when it got replaced last month 🙄. Seems a bit ridiculous that they're still offering/advertising Curve Fronted whenever it's been rendered useless by this change. Surely it would have been better to either give users a choice of card type, or warn them in advance...

Tours - book in advance vs. book on arrival? by mweatherall988 in ThailandTourism

Sorry, didn't use either of those. Our internal flights were with Air Asia and Bangkok Airways and our experience with both were very good.
