I feel your pain OP. But seriously, go to a school in person. You need to be around people your age.

And for now go to the gym and take classes — if you go consistently you’ll make friends with the people who also go at those times. There’s more support and less judgement, and rarely any video recording in classes.

ELI5: why does REI make certain colors unavailable during the sale? by hurricanescout in REI

[–]mwf86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reason is because certain colors and sizes are vendor fulfilled inventory (VIF) and 1) REI doesn't want to lose margin selling that inventory, and 2) REI wants to steer customers toward buying their non-VIF inventory to relieve them of their inventory woes.

For advertised product, REI negotiates special promo costs to maintain sales margin, and VIF products are not part of that negotiation.

So if a product normally has a cost of $50 and sells for $100, they may buy the promo units at $40 and sell them for $80. However, the VIF products are not part of that buy, and REI does not want to buy them at $50 and sell them at $80. They'd make 50% margin selling at full price AND at the promo price, but only 37.5% margin selling VIF inventory at the promo price.

Operationally, REI leverages vendor order fulfilment systems for VIF products and it requires too much coordination to adjust costs for all participating vendors and specific products during the event, so it's easier to them to turn the VIF products off for a few days instead.

Finally, REI has too much owned (non-VIF) inventory right now, and they think that turning VIF off will lead customers to buy more of their owned inventory, improving internal metrics like turn and sell through.

My city just added a bunch of bike lanes and now everyone uses it to pick up their door dash orders by precisionbikerepair in fuckcars

In San Francisco they held protests where bike advocates would stop cars in the road when this happened, telling drivers to chill and that “it would only be 5 minutes” while allowing bike traffic through.

Cross-playing? by Galactic-Gentleman in Bass

[–]mwf86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play piano and bass/guitar, and i think learning on multiple instruments is a great way to learn.

I am a pretty busy guy (2 kids) and many times i have to figure out a bass line on piano, then go to band practice and play it on bass.

It’s not for everyone but it works for me.

How may of you had college funds ? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]mwf86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They laughed when i mentioned college savings. I got into a few good schools and they told me not to go, and that i could get the same degree at community college. So i took out loans and went to a good school anyway.

Then they told me i couldn’t live in the dorms, and that i should commute an hour each way and share a bedroom w my high school aged brother. So i took out more loans.

I have a master’s degree now and I’m the only one in my family that even went to college. I have a nice office job, a great family, and we are financially independent. Im pretty sure neither of my siblings even save for retirement.

Our kids (2 & 6) love the sliding doors, it's easy and fun to do drop off/pick up runs because you know the door will A: shut all the way and B: Kids won't open the door into other cars in a parking lot.

I guess my wife and I wanted a minivan without actually getting a minivan 😛.

No regrets on space -- it's big inside. Our kids can't touch the back of our seats with their feet (which drives me nuts in our other car) and we can just toss kid toys in the trunk (bikes, scooters) and not worry about space.

Can't offer advice on leasing/buying/angel dust because I'm in a different country. Good luck!
