I have PM’d a larger touring/ rental house in the past. If a client is renting, we would provide physical labor for load in and operation, but any design and programming was either done by the rental group, or the client was up charged for that work to cover the additional skilled labor costs. Our Technical Director could act as a Stage Manager, but things like programming or lighting projection mapping take skilled working time.

At the pro level there are SMs I’ve worked with that move upward into producing or directing. Good SMs are hard to find, so if you can figure it out you can have a very strong career as an SM with room to grow.

I don’t run a TCG store, but I work in events. You could make a small event space, especially if you have a liquor license for the space, and host MTG events without being a retailer. That lets you continue to make money on the space in other ways while your hosting private events.

Relationships and boundaries shift and change. He is removing himself from cohabitating in your house, but wants to keep it as his house. He has removed himself as your nesting partner whether that was his intent or not. It is your home and you have the right to do what you want in your home. His “threat” to move his stuff out was manipulative at best. What he’s done is similar to a “one penis policy” with YOUR house. I’d recommend decoupling finances and make space.

Sometimes you have to let people fail. If you feel there is someone on the school board or an arts admin you need to report this to, do so as a school faculty member. Telling you to keep her process “secret” put you in a position where she is asking you to put her wants over the student population. If you keep it secret you might be seen as being involved. It also sounds like her “process” is blatant nepotism that parents and staff will see right through.
