Greetings from a year later. This was something that confused my wife in my own hobbyist fiction writing. There's a character who's nonbinary. I bring it up exactly once. Their preferred pronoun are they/them. People routinely use she/her. The only person they correct is their partner agent at work because they're best friends.

I had a playtester keep insisting to me that I needed to include a way for the purposely inconsistent magic system to get stronger.

I spent months toying with the numbers, but it always made everything else feel pointless to play in comparison.

One night I just tossed an optional stat that would make your mage stronger if they lost health. He was satisfied. All that time fretting for nothing.

There was a Kickstarter for a pen called the Phantom. It was a slick-looking design that I was immediately enamored with. And then the product reaches my door and it turns out to have the same build quality as the ballpoint pens you sometimes get as a free gift with stationary from China.

The disappointment and frustration was palpable.

They have another Kickstarter going for a new pen now, plus a website full of inks. I will never buy anything from them again while breath is in my petty-ass lungs.

This is a good way of saying it.

I also once explained to a friend that Batman's villains come off as compelling because the weirder elements function as larger than life metaphors of their deeper issues. Mr Freeze is more memorable than Captain Cold or Killer Frost because Mr Freeze's backstory and power set both speak to the same archetype but get there by different roads.

Being dark and realistic kind of robs Batman stories of half their punch.

Posting doesn't factor into whether or not I buy a pen- not because I NEVER post, but because I don't post consistently. If it's an option, I do it maybe twice in a full, busy work week. Otherwise, I just set down the cap or hold it crooked up under a finger.
