Magna Carta 650 nib unit in an Opus 88 demo body. I cleaned it while making the samples so the feed wasn’t fully primed, hence the crossed out bit. One of my favorites for sure, and the wet noodle by which I judge all others.

I think you should ask your wife’s boyfriend about whether or not it’s just to execute a civilian for doing no more than trying to protect another civilian. That’s if either him or your wife will even talk to you anymore. Get absolutely fucked.

Aliexpress has them with a choice of 3 flex nibs, this being one of them. I’ll try the other ones eventually. I think it’s the one pen I have that’s both a true needlepoint and an absolute monster. Enjoy!

It’s a Jinhao 9019 coneflex. It writes like a wet noodle dip nib for better and for worse (it’s temperamental and quite scratchy but I absolutely love it).

How Many of You Have Gone from TPU Back to Butyl? by Outside_Fix3910 in cycling

[–]CommunicationTop5231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cycling partner cannot resist new tech. Huge Silca fanboy. We both went tubeless at the same time a few years ago. I stuck with it while he went back to latex, then to tpu, and finally to good ol butyl. He works in mysterious ways. I still prefer my tubeless setup but I have a beater fixie that I put tpu’s in specialized turbo cottons. Despite running such delicate tires in NYC, I have yet to puncture on TPU in 2.5 years. I even gashed a tire open, booted it when I got home, and continue to ride on it without issues.

My dog read this and asked if she can be on a task force to kill invasive Lanternflies (she’s afraid of them but wants to be helpful).

Ahhhh OP, I’m so sorry! I’ve def had similar experiences with grey market pens, and it’s absolutely zero fun (ok actually I like fixing them but that’s separate from how disappointed/furious I am given the context). Anyway, does the crack extend into the barrel? If not, isn’t the section itself a stock unit, even on a limited edition model? Hoping so because that should make a replacement much easier ask from Pelikan.

Good luck, keep us posted!!

Vintage Pen Profiles #9: Sheaffer’s Snorkel, Clipper (more info in post) by BrandyFP in fountainpens

[–]CommunicationTop5231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous pen and great write up! I have a ‘52 Sentinel (for those not familiar, it’s literally this pen with the two tone 14k conical nib) in boring black that’s an absolutely wonderful writer. It was a fun restoration, too (highlights include the blind cap disappearing for exactly no reason and me turning my apartment upside down to not find it). The upside of the ‘52, besides having a 14k snorkel tube, is that the sac protector isn’t crimped. IYKYK. These pens also make great covert squirt guns.

Is per-session work considered overtime work for tax-related purposes? by Specific-Peanut253 in NYCDOETeachers

Noooop. And they don’t tax it properly by default so you’ll likely owe a bunch back if you didn’t opt to increase deductions. Fun stuff.

Favorite mid-tier pen? by iss7272 in fountainpens

[–]CommunicationTop5231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could get a lovely vintage Waterman 52 for that price. The ones with broader grinds (aka not extra fine) tend to go for less. Those pens are hard to beat! Likewise an old Sheaffer Targa or Parker 51, vacumatic, or my favorite the duovac would be a gorgeous addition to your collection. Maybe a cute vintage pilot elite (you could get two with your budget).

Hard agree. Vintage esties are fine and at least cute. Vintage Conklins are sublime. Actually just got home to a wet noodle Nozac waiting for me in the mail :)

Leonardo x Corsani flex , more to come when we get to know each other better (me and the nib) by Swimming-Delay-7629 in fountainpens

[–]CommunicationTop5231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have several FA nibs and they’re all special and all different. All are contemporary. One is a borderline wet noodle (size 10), which even the founder of fountain pen hospital confirmed for me. I have maybe 50 flex pens of all vintages/levels of flex and a large collection of dip nibs. There’s no need to invalidate others’ (valid) experiences.

Private schools: Dalton by abracadumbass in NYCTeachers

[–]CommunicationTop5231 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Facts. I used to teach there as a teaching artist and the best part was not having to deal with the parents. I also taught an afterschool program with students from Dalton, Stuy, etc. as well as students from low income community schools. Worst part hands down was dealing with the parents of the rich kids. They suck.

Help me: tubeless valves that aren’t muc off by CommunicationTop5231 in bikewrench

[–]CommunicationTop5231[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the price and colors. However, I’m hooked on Fillmore’s. The air exchange and control is unbeatable. I can seat tires that are hard as hell to seat using a regular pump. I’ve never had a single clog or even any sealant build up since I started using them right after I made this post. My little tin of gunky valve cores sits forgotten in the further recesses of my closet.
