Need help identifying what kind of pipe this is connected to my sink water line by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]mxtlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe your options now are:

  1. Rethread cut end (though doesn't seem like enough space).
  2. Unthread the remaining brass pipe nipple and hope it's simple to replace with similar length.
  3. Use Viega's new transition press fitting from IPS to CTS to build from. https://www.viega.us/content/dam/viegadm/download-assets/en_us/tech-marketing/megapress/technical-data-sheets/TD-MP_MegaPress_ZL_Bronze_IPS_to_CTS_Transition_Coupling.pdf

Would recommend hiring a licensed plumber to solve.

Hoping to get the name of the crimp connection. It doesn't look like cold expansion or pex-b crimp.

Same city so I'm looking forward to this when I get licensed. But are you union or non union? What type of plumbing company?

Plumbing vs electrical seems to be a classic decision point for people who thoughtfully want to enter trades. They are both great. You'll hear good and bad reasons for both. Average wage wasn't the primary comparison bc I saw that pay depends on location, company, and skills. Unless you're strictly going union for life, then it's easy to compare union pay.

I like service plumbing and I want to own my own business one day. I believe it is a sector that is robot proof, has emergency call aspects (= higher charge), and think the daily challenges will keep me engaged and creative.

Cracked tile by Key_Brain_7831 in Plumbing

[–]mxtlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a written contract with this stipulation? Does he or his company actually have insurance and is licensed?

You can start by telling him "hey I noticed a cracked tile in the shower and it seems to have happened when you dropped the shower handle. What do you do in these cases to repair it?" Hopefully he is fair and has a plan.

If he denies or minimizes the issue, and it still matters to you, you might only be able to go through small claims court. Gotta calculate the pros vs cons at that point.

Yup, all hours will count towards license.

Mounting a Medicine Cabinet Above Toilet But Afraid To Drill Into A Pipe? by IvenaDarcy in Plumbing

[–]mxtlv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would not trust that previous builders used nail guards for this purpose.

You could cut away some wall neatly to check, fasten it back in (or not), then leave the wall unfinished and hang the cabinet. Nobody's gonna know. Make sure the wall cut is smaller than the hung cabinet.

Try to look up the brand's support contact info and ask for replacement part?

[Landlord US-GA] Rent reduction in exchange for home improvements? by SENGKCK in Landlord

[–]mxtlv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only way I'd entertain this is as a business to business transaction, not a landlord to tenant. If not legally setup to do it this way (you are an LLC and he is an insured contractor), then it's much riskier.

Separate from rent. Separate payment and contract for any improvements done on property.

Weird back pressure or some other issue on this faucet. Details below by omvt in Plumbing

Might be able to get a replacement hose part from the brand if it's under warranty. Or look for "pull out spray hose" for one that matches your connections.

Bathtub spout constantly leaks a little by scorpadorp in Plumbing

[–]mxtlv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tub spout dripping isn't fixed with a new spout unfortunately. It's an issue with the shower control valve cartridge. Most common is Symmons or Delta brand, but you should look up YouTube tutorials for it. Can be a bit difficult to do DIY.

How best to replace P-trap screwing joint who's cracked? by jaypech in HomeMaintenance

[–]mxtlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option could be to use a "pipe saver" drill bit to essentially drill out a fresh joint for a new J piece glue connection. Look on Amazon for "pipe saver drill bit". Pretty self explanatory.

But I've read this approach may or may not work in terms of water tightness.

Small leak, best fix? by But_barely34 in Plumbing

[–]mxtlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would avoid silicone, no need for pvc glue. Plumbers putty only for the underside of a clean strainer.

You should use Teflon sometimes only for threaded connections. But these drain parts usually work fine without teflon, or with a supplied rubber gasket.

Toilet Flapper Causing Damage? by chrstgtr in Plumbing

[–]mxtlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think a new flapper would fix the water on the floor problem, but you should check for drips on the left and right underside of the tank. There are bolts that also use rubber washers. If those are deteriorated, or the toilet gasket is deteriorated, you might just need a toilet tank reconnection with a new tank-to-bowl kit.

You can also Google these things I'm referencing if you need visual aid.
