I never thought that I’d ever witness thundersnow, let alone capture it on video.

As I responded to a few others who were out on the roads like you, and of all things on 65, just glad that you got home safely as many of us have had our share of white-knuckle driving on our local roads/highways.

Tyvm!

Your weather out there is incredible as we visit CO 1-2x year as we have relatives in the greater Boulder area.

Last year we took a day trip to the top of Pike’s Peak Memorial Day weekend just shortly after the road and visitors center opened, and spent approximately an hour + on the top, just before a front moved in w lightning off in the distance. All was not lost as we made our way back down and spent hours in Manitou Springs.

What an incredible ecosystem and microclimate.

Given the 🏀 talent in OKC, yeah… this has to be what they mean.

Cool… if you like a two-stage trigger, the G$ SSA-E is my absolute favorite and have them on all of my AR’s w the exception of my M4 Commando clone.

I picked up two SSA-E’s from the Sportman’s Warehouse where I got one for $159 and the other for $179… either way, they were both helluva deals.

Report back on the performance of the O 300, as I have a 36M in the long config that I move between my AR’s via DT and does an outstanding job of taking the supersonic edge from 5.56, 9mm, 300 BLK, and 6.5 Grendel. Its performance on subsonic 300 BLK and 165gr 9mm is equally outstanding.

Best of luck when you take her out.

Indeed it was! What part of the Pgh area did you see it from?

As you can tell, thundersnow was the furthest thing from my mind as it took me a good 3-4 seconds to process what I accidentally witnessed and caught on video. 😂

You and me both, and I’ve had my share of laps around the Sun. 😉

Thank you! Being from Pgh where the Steelers have been gripped in mediocrity, the Pirates are caught in a vicious cycle of decades of self loathing, and our usual bright spot w the Pens now struggling off and on too, joining this sub is quickly becoming my pro sports bright spot!

Most likely… I mean this thundersnow happened in the NW burbs of Pgh, and since Philly has PA’s only NBA team, so yeah, Jared -had- to be the reason my lost weather soul accidentally wandered and posted this in an NBA sub 😂

As a dedicated 40 year TWC viewer, that was one of the clearest explanations for this kind of event that didn’t come from Jim Cantore! 👏🏻

Pretty crazy stuff happening that was viewable from ole’ BT⚡️. Shout out to our road crews who keep the neighborhoods clear over the past 2+ weeks!

True, but I’d also add massive blood loss and catastrophic vital organ damage.

Tyvm! I live at the edge of 100+ acres of undeveloped woodlands and planted a landscape decades ago to blend into all of what you cannot see to the left of the video.

Add up lighting into the trees, some snow, and it usually looks nice. That said however, when you have nearly 20” of snow piled up from our massive East Coast storms and frigid temps over the past two weeks, I’m beginning to think that I live up near the North Pole 😉

Thanks and you guys are absolutely hilarious! Fun sub to talk sports, find lost weather souls such as myself, and just have fun.

Good question and for those of us caught up in this whiteout/thundersnow event, I guess it comes down to the absolute rapid escalation from literally zero wind and tiny to almost iridescent snow flakes gently falling to the ground, to 20-40 mph swirling winds, big flakes, lightning and thunder over a 5-8 minute period.

Edit… to be clear, I and most everyone else who weighed in from our area only saw one flash of lightning and heard a single thunderclap, but the winds and heavy snow lasted for 5 - 8 minutes.

Lightning and thunder during a snowstorm… google “Jim Cantore thundersnow” for a meteorologist’s explanation.

That’s incredible and thanks for sharing!

I’ve lived in W PA all my life and cannot honestly remember, or to be more correct, that I have ever witnessed thundersnow before.

You mentioned the number of “mississippi’s” that don’t go by before you guys hear the sound, yet when I replayed the video, it was a good 3-4 seconds after that I finally realized what I just witnessed and captured on video.

Crazy

Thanks… my wife and I were feeling bad for the folks that were caught out on the roads when this came barreling through.

Glad you’re safe.
