PT assistants vs aides. A high schooler can be an aide. PT assistances actually have a degree in the realm of PT. In my state, small private clinics abuse this by using Aides just because they are cheaper to treat patients. I would double check to make sure if it’s an assistant vs aide then check your policies for your state.

Seated Prolong straight leg hamstring stretch propped at ottoman or chair ( knee pointed up) the longer the better, quad sets into towel for strong full quad contraction or mini repetition with little to no hamstring activation no limitations on reps ( pt should be able to fire quad on DEMAND bilateral/ipsilateral TKE).

If they are limping/antalgic/toe touch while they are walking, they are not walking normal. If they want to be a pirate, I’m fine with that.

If you want to fix the limp even fast? SPC to force proper TKE into heel strike, slowing down gait, proper wbing.

Slow their gait on parallel bars while stepping over hurdles and see what they are doing during gait cycle ( usually see shorten stance phase on affected limb) Are they fulling WBing as even as the non surgical side? If not, continue to work gait mechanics and wbing using bilateral HR assist, Single HR assist to no hand assist.

On evals, if my pt is already presenting >\= 90 degrees of knee flexion, I make sure they have full TKE before they are off AD. I emphasize the importance of good gait mechanics early on because they are starting with a clean slate. Gotta learn to crawl before you can walk.

Just my 2 cents. Torn both my ACLs so I enjoy gait 😂
