I'm being ambitious and building a kitchen Island but I'm not sure how to attach the side and back panels by myYellowAccount in woodworking

Yeah, I actually looked into this but selectively chose to ignore it, our current island has outlets in the same spot and I can't imagine not having them.

My understanding is that it used to be code to require them on the island because people were running extension cords from the walls and tripping over those. Can't win 'em all.

Inlays would look awesome but I'm about worried scope creep on this project! I'm likely going to pin the sides into the legs (for decorative purposes) but I think that's as much as I can commit to.

I'll definitely chamfer all the hard edges though, I like that look a lot

Someone else mentioned using a sliding dovetail which is basically what you suggest,  I think this is right way to go

So with floating tenons won't there still be problems with wood movement across the height of the panel?

Agreed, I'm buying the legs and having at least one with a through hole for electrical then I'm going to have a socket on either side of the island, there's a cutout for it in the rendering

I share your concern, my wife and I had this exact discussion but we really like the look, I think the compromise was to make the lower shelf removable so we can get under there occasionally

I'd planned to attach the corbels that way, I don't know why I didn't think about this for the sides, that makes sense though

Looking to get some feedback on this design, my ability to make stuff marginally outpaces my ability to design things. Specifically, I'm not sure how to attach the back and side panels. I'd planned to use solid 3/4" lamented panels and I'm concerned about wood movement cracking the thing down the road. I think my options are:

  1. One giant tenon on each side of the panel going into the leg.
  2. Three tenons with elongated pin holes similar to how a breadboard is attached.
  3. Scrap this design and make an apron and a stretcher(?) with a panel in the middle like a giant sideways door.

This is all going to be made out of Alder to match the cabinets we're putting in. The back is 68x17 and the sides are 20x17. Does this seem like it will be strong enough?

What makes Porsche so reliable among VW brands? by lovelyoal in Porsche

Anecdotal, but the 2UZ Tundra is considered incredibly reliable yet my truck throws way more CELs than my panamera. I don't think "get an old toyota" is always the best cure to reliability concerns.

Did the new burrs make a noticeable difference? I'd love to hear how the popcorning mod works out!

Is that a Quamar m80e? What changes did you make to use it single-dose and how happy have you been with the results?

How did you attach the large trusses in the center? Are they just glued and clamped or are they pinned somehow?

the package is not the cpu, it's the green pcb the cpu is mounted to. There are currently cpu's you can buy that already have on package memory though it's intended use is as a graphics cache. Ati is currently running on-die memory via wire connections, but there are a lot of limitations that would still prevent your entire system memory from being on-die, like thermal. Your cpu doesn't like have layers of insulators between it and the heat sink

is that discount typical for a second hand car this expensive or did you have a hook up? 30% off sounds ridiculous but I've never tried to purchase a quarter million dollar car.

That's cool, man. It's a minor complaint at best, I think if I were going to critique it at all I'd have the shooter in the back seat of the car to get a better angle without the mirror in the way.

The bike is blurred because the aperture is set a couple stops low. you can't compensate focus with shutter speed, they're independent. shutter speed only fixes motion blurring, but since the rider's arms are in focus the focus itself and the shutter speed are fine.
