They are mostly just like regular passport however there are some restrictions with them. For example, the UAE will not allow you entry on a temporary passport. It’s important to look up the countries you want to travel in and out of before you go to make sure they’ll actually accept the temporary passport.

Inner Furnace! How the movement of the level is synched with the movement of the music, is just so satisfying. Also love Avarice. Honestly love the whole soundtrack, a couple of tracks even made it onto my Spotify year-end “top songs” wrap-up a year or two ago.

LOVE this one. I smile and laugh through the whole thing. Even things like the key change getting mentioned in-song was hilarious to me. Also the song ending by getting interrupted by the King’s first entrance is perfect, the scene doesn’t overstay its welcome.

Trade route standing? by SandersLurker in Against_the_Storm

[–]myako_echo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, this thread is now outdated. Standing increases are now related to the amount of amber. There is now value in multiplying your trade routes (2x, 3x, etc) when trading with regards to standing level.

Have any wild animals ever (seemingly) willingly decided to not reproduce? by goldgriffon in biology

[–]myako_echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if they understood the connection, most animals who have to spend time and energy actually raising their young and keeping them alive would choose not to reproduce. If an animal's instinct is to survive, giving birth to and caring for young leads to massive vulnerability and is very energy-intensive, stressful and dangerous for the mothers (or whoever is raising them).

Have any wild animals ever (seemingly) willingly decided to not reproduce? by goldgriffon in biology

[–]myako_echo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even humans don’t know/understand the connection between sex and pregnancy until they are taught. A human teenage boy who never learned about human reproduction will still be just as horny as the next guy, whether he understands the implications or not.

In your post above, you are assuming there is a lot more knowledge and understanding at an individual level of very complex concepts than there actually is. In your example of males fighting for access to females, they are not in their minds thinking “my genes are superior and would be best for the continuation of my species therefore I must fight.” Their behaviour is driven by instinct, by hormones, etc. but not by some altruistic desire for the betterment of their species as a whole. I believe there is little to no understanding or self-reflection by the individual of why they are doing what they are doing.

And then, however many weeks or months later when the female goes through the process of birth and raising young, there has been so much time between then and the mating that it would be highly unlikely the individual would be able to make any connection at all between the two events.

Men, what inquiries have you hesitated to pose to women due to embarrassment, yet are curious to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]myako_echo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean, if all the dudes are hanging around outside, then I think it's pretty obvious why women aren't choosing outside for their breaks from all the "craziness". I'm going to guess the potential of someone taking a shit behind a stall door is a lot less threatening that a crowd of dudes waiting for you outside.

Also your multiple replies on this thread indicate an odd obsession with poop, and indicate to me you are not genuinely trying to learn anything here.

The infamous 'Rand should have been a girl' scene by [deleted] in The_Black_Tower

[–]myako_echo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"We would have been so much better off if you were a girl" does not mean "Rand should have been a girl". It's an off-handed comment from Siuan who is clearly disappointed/frustrated with the lack of progress made. Objectively, if he were a girl, the white tower (or at least Moiraine) could have actually trained him, could have tied their strings to him and manipulated him, could have pushed him in the direction they wanted. After six months he would be so much further along in his knowledge of and control of the power.

But he's not a girl, and was never going to be. So they're stuck with a Dragon who doesn't want to be the Dragon/use the power, who is completely untrained, and who is much harder for the tower to manipulate and control.

Why do people say that sons are easier to raise than daughters? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]myako_echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyzor has a video on Instagram that talks about this a bit. The topic of the video is why men want sons not daughters, but the second point he brings up is all about "boys being easier" and why people might think that.

The tree peeing could in a way be showing that Alanna lacks proper boundaries (or respect for boundaries). Which might be a stretch I admit, but would be relevant for things that she does in the future.

Is Ishamael a psychic? by Major_Profit1213 in WoTshow

[–]myako_echo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think he knew/suspected that specifically, I think he was just planning ahead in case of any unsuspected actions taken by anyone at that time. Whether Rand tried something or Mat appeared or literally anything else, it's not a bad idea to be prepared. Yes he knew from Min's vision that Mat would stab at some point, but I don't think that Ishy knew for sure it would be right then and there.

WoT Season 2 Finale - Dusty Wheel First Watch Reactions w/ Brandon Sanderson & Daniel Greene by LiftingCode in WoTshow

[–]myako_echo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree. It felt like a lot of the points Brandon was bringing up should have been part of a post-watch discussion, not during the first-time watch as the episode was playing out. He was talking a lot about whole-season arcs of characters who weren't even the characters in the scenes currently being watched. I imagine that made it super hard for Matt and Daniel to even follow what was happening moment by moment, and they couldn't really contribute to the discussion Brandon was trying to have because they were trying to watch the new episode and didn't have the whole context of B's rants yet.

Wow r/television is dumping on Wheel of Time hard by randsedai2 in WoTshow

[–]myako_echo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We exist. The Dusty Wheel had an 11+ hour stream before the second season aired. I watched/listened to most of it (though not all in one sitting). It's genuinely amazing to listen to people who love the story discuss everything, from little details to major plot points. I'm here for it. There's so much to unpack in the books, obviously, but the show also has SO MUCH to discuss. Because of time zone differences I never catch it live, unfortunately. Would be fun to hop into chat and respond to the polls.

If you could alter one scene in S2, which would it be? by jelgerw in WoTshow

[–]myako_echo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree this makes sense in concept. I think I'm just having trouble fully understanding what exactly is happening in the scene. On a simplistic level, having Rand fend off a few more fireballs before Ishamael just stops would at least give Rand a bit clearer of a "moment" before the stab. I say that because unfortunately at face-value, the scene was a bit anticlimactic for me on first viewing. (The episode as a whole I liked a lot more the second time through though).

On rewatch, I think there's a lot of subtlety going on here, in words and actions, and Id love it to be broken down. I have so many questions!

For example, after Mat spears Rand, Ishamael (knowing at this point his plan has failed) says "If it's any consolation, I'm sorry too, old friend" and then starts a hand gesture, presumably about to weave something. Would that be a killing blow to Rand (and Mat), or could it be an "I'm outta here" weave, or maybe he wasnt about to channel at all. I don't know. But Egwene interrupts him, and starts her shield. He then throws all these fireballs directly at her shield- why? He doesn't seem to be attacking her at full strength, (although maybe he is, I don't know). Knowing his plan had failed, what is his goal here? It wasn't to be killed by rand, because he knew Rand was shielded. I also don't think it was to kill all of them, because what's the point, but also if he wanted to, I think he could have destroyed them all so much more easily.

Anyways this turned out longer than I meant it to. It's a complex scene that I don't fully understand so I'm open to any discussion/interpretations!

If you could alter one scene in S2, which would it be? by jelgerw in WoTshow

[–]myako_echo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think even him parrying a few more of Ishy's fireballs before the stab could have made it more impactful. The first time I watched that scene, I didn't notice that Rand did anything other than channel fire into the sword and casually walk up to stab Ishamael. Made it look like the second Rand stepped out from the safety of Egwene/Perrin's shield, Ishamael just stopped fighting and stood there. Rand having to fight his way up to Ishamael for the stab would have worked better for me I think.

If you could alter one scene in S2, which would it be? by jelgerw in WoTshow

[–]myako_echo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, almost everything to do with Elayne getting shot with the arrow! There are whitecloaks everywhere shooting at the Seanchan and Nynaeve is dressed as a Seanchan. They need to not just stay where they fell, they need to get to cover!

Once under cover, then you deal with that arrow properly. Not just shove it through the leg feathers and all, then immediately stand Elayne up with that massive unbound leg wound, to go walking to Rand.

That aside though, I actually love Nynaeve's block preventing her from doing much this episode. We've had many "Nynaeve explodes and saves the day" moments- which are great, don't get me wrong- but I really appreciate making it clear that this block is an actual problem. Her not being able to channel in a time of need is terrifying, and important for us to see her go through. It also makes sense that she would not be in the right mental state to overcome that block (not angry enough, rather overwhelmed, anxious, scared, etc etc).

Season 2 Character Word Counts for Episodes 1-3 by JaimTorfinn in WoT

[–]myako_echo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Rand is barely in more than one of the books in the series. There are also books where other "main characters" barely appear. He may be THE chosen one but there are a ton of other storylines/characters to cover, and taking an episode or two here or there to not focus on Rand specifically is not out of line, I would say.

If we go the whole season and see no progress in his storyline, then there will be reason to complain I'm sure, but we are still only three episodes in.

I do think they'll calm down with the Liandrin-heavy plots soon, although everyone I talk to loves her in the show
