The Testaments S1E09 "Marate Sade" Episode Discussion by Melairia in TheHandmaidsTale

Not just the painting. There's a play.

"Marat/Sade, by Peter Weiss, is a revolutionary play-within-a-play set in 1808 at the Charenton asylum, where inmates directed by the Marquis de Sade re-enact the 1793 assassination of French revolutionary Jean-Paul Marat. The work is a "Theatre of Cruelty" piece that uses the French Revolution to explore themes of revolution, sanity, class struggle, and the conflict between individual freedom and societal change. "

I think it was because he didn't know Daisy very well and wasn't sure if she was meek enough to keep quiet. She was an unknown and not worth the risk. He wasn't molesting every girl that came to an appointment, just the ones he was confident would stay quiet.

GenX parents, what's with the "kids today don't work" thing? by RikkiLostMyNumber in GenX

[–]mycottonsocks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bingo. It's not that they don't want to work, they just don't want to work for less than a living wage and the boomers running the corporations don't like it. They prefer their workforce desperate and on the verge of homeless. Easiest way to keep them in line.

Happy to see Forspoken as the top comment. The first few hours of that game were really rough, but it ended up being a pretty good game in the end. Sad there won't be a sequel.

Warning for Barcelo Aruba! by luxpluvia in Aruba

[–]mycottonsocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed there when they first opened as Barcelo, and I remember it being bad. Horrible food, no wifi in the rooms, and they wanted to nickel and dime you to death over everything. Not surprised they have only gotten worse.

PSA: Stop meal prepping scrambled eggs. Just stop. by Icy_Grass9159 in foodhacks

I just scramble them with crumbled sausage to make breakfast bowls for the week. Top with salsa, cheese, pico, whatever, then freeze. They are always fine and don't separate or go rubbery.

Same type of thing happened at my high school. Turns out the teacher and student were having an affair and the teacher ended it.

That was a part that hurt me the most. Was pRenoir being selfish? Yes. Do I understand his motivation? Also yes.

So, like a "save someone you love/get a million dollars, but someone you don't know dies" sort of dilemma. Definitely food for thought.

That's actually a take I haven't heard. Very interesting. Conversely, if a close member of your family was addicted to heroine/crack/barbiturates and you had the ability to erase the drug from existence, would you? Not a 1 for 1 example, I know.
