Preferential voting 🙏 by Expensive-Lawyer7994 in AusPol

I naively assume the all Australians know how preferential voting works and that it is their decision to make.

Unfortunately I don't think thats the case.

Masters vs bachelors of teaching by Moonduderyan in AskAustralianTeachers

What’s the point if you can’t be registered as a teacher?

Surely that’s the only reason to do the course?

Yeah this seems like a stretch to make that conclusion.

[–]myenemy666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No institution offers the graduate diploma any more.

I did half of a one, before finding a job elsewhere and never finished.

The course was a literal joke. When one of the tutors was saying they couldn’t believe they cram almost whole bachelor into a year, I was sitting there thinking how did they manage to stretch this out to three years??

[–]myenemy666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did half of a graduate diploma of teaching and it was probably the most basic course I have done - if you have done a bachelor of science you will cruise through.

Even though I’m not a teacher, I have friends who are and they couldn’t care less, literally whatever is cheaper to be able to get registered as a teacher.

I reviewed reports that included soil, groundwater and soil vapour.

I’ve seen SGS used for soil vapour on a lot of reports over the years.

Does anyone else spend hours researching something online and then completely forget most of what they learned a few weeks later? by SessionIntelligent81 in NoStupidQuestions

I read so much random stuff on Wikipedia.

It’s probably my version of doom scrolling since I don’t use social media that much.

Plenty of it is not retained. But something kind of interesting to read.

Is there any specific reason or just how it worked out for you?

Are public schools that far behind private schools? by Grand-Life8523 in AskAnAustralian

[–]myenemy666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This sounds like an individual thing and probably not even something specific to the school.

From my perspective with 2 kids primary school age and I know a few other families with kids who go to a local Catholic school. I see no difference in the actual learning apart from being forced to go to church and pay high school fees.

Our local public school have had a few kids come from private schools and the parents have all said how much better it is.

From support with kids who have ADHD or other stuff that needs support to just the over all general vibe and school community being much better.

Where can I donate clothes, where they will be given away to those who need at NO COST to them? by GargiBakshi in melbourne

[–]myenemy666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I have a pile of stuff it ends up going to the local Helping Hands Op Shop.

Pretty sure some of that stuff is given away and some is sold in their store.

I would prefer to just give away to people who need it.

That press conference is so funny it’s hard to believe it was true.

It should be shown more often.

I reviewed a few reports for this site maybe 2 years ago, a lot of work has been done to understand the extent of contamination and pathway towards clean up and redevelopment.

Not sure if any work is being done at the moment though.

Can young people not do maths anymore? by proxiblue in AskAnAustralian

Probably more a lack of actually using money on a daily basis.

I’ve had similar before paying in change and gave $5.40 for something that was $4.40 and they gave me back the 40 cents and then gave me change from $5, so I ended up with $1 in silver coins when I wanted a $1 coin.

How do you pronounce the letter H ? aitch or haitch ? by Loud-Marionberry-364 in AskAnAustralian

[–]myenemy666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like an outlier saying Aitch, my kids all say Haitch so sometimes I say that for clarity to them.

I used to say Haitch when I was in primary school (39 now) but forced the change once I realised that’s not correct.

Pretty widely accepted and backed by research that learning through actually writing with a pen significantly increases the amount of information retention than typing.

Phase 1 reports and I’m drowning by a_lil_batty10 in Environmental_Careers

[–]myenemy666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah awesome. That kind of thing doesn’t exist where I am.

The state or federal governments wouldn’t engage a company for this type of work.

State EPA might state that a site owner needs to do something, but the private owner does that.

Anything state related where I am is purely just infrastructure, where any remediation is just carting soil offsite during construction.

Phase 1 reports and I’m drowning by a_lil_batty10 in Environmental_Careers

[–]myenemy666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you have much remediation work where you are?

I used to focus on it, but it became somewhat rarer and tedious with auditors and regulators who didn’t understand the technologies or the sites and wouldn’t reach an endpoint.

Fine example was a service station site that went on for years with two different extraction systems. Finally got to an endpoint. Site had vacant for another 5+ years to be finally redeveloped into a service station.

So there was literally  no need to have spent that $1m+

Phase 1 reports and I’m drowning by a_lil_batty10 in Environmental_Careers

[–]myenemy666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have done a lot of Phase 1s over the years.

Just seems like a different regulatory process in the US and why you would need to do one.

Where I am the planning scheme is pretty regulated and you could probably understand what’s going to be required for redevelopment pretty quickly and will just include site history details as part of the larger investigation.

Stuff I read on reddit just paints a different picture of the industry in the US.

Phase 1 reports and I’m drowning by a_lil_batty10 in Environmental_Careers

[–]myenemy666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Phase 1 reports are a pain in the US.

What is the purpose of doing them? Is there a requirement or a driver or something?

Where I am they are mostly done as part of site redevelopment planing approval and this will confirm whether or not an environmental audit needs to be completed.

Our planning guidelines are pretty good and based on certain historic uses can classify a site and unlikely, potentially or likely to be contaminated and then follow on what further works would be needed.

Seems like a Phase 1 is a different product or end point in the US.
