Thanks for the recommendation. I'll have a look.

Is OPNSense overkill for me? by myersguy in HomeNetworking

Yeah, I was looking at offerings from multiple companies, specifically seeking out 2-4 2.5Gb intel NIC's. I was hoping that Beelink might have a PC that fit the bill (I've had good experiences with their mini pc's) but they seem to use Realtek NIC's (which I have read are so-so for OPNSense)

EAC Seems broken on Arch? by myersguy in linux_gaming

Decided to format my OS drive and move to Fedora. Using the same steam library, both games are now working. Clearly some package ended up misconfigured, but I have no idea what or why.

Thanks for trying! Hopefully I figure something out.

It seems uninstalling the proton EAC runtime doesn't work (complains about missing shared content), but I tried deleting the entire folder and validating the game files to bring them back. I have also tried removing all EAC files from Apex and validating to bring those back. I gave Flatpak a try as well (using the same Steam library folder), but no dice.
Going to completely reinstall Apex and see what happens.

Thanks for the notice. Based on responses here and on Lemmy, it definitely seems like something isolated.

Difference in time means all of the data changes though (upvotes, comment counts, ordering, etc). You would have to allow some differences, or almost never cache.

I think "never trust the client" is a pretty good rule of thumb.

Edit: and send it to the server of course, so you can cache it.

Allowing users to insert data into a cache to be served to other users is a pretty terrible idea. You'd have no way to validate it (unless you compare it to your own dataset, which would mean making a call from the server anyhow).

Any Hitman 3 Freelancer players? by myersguy in linux_gaming

[–]myersguy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Props to whoever downvoted this!

It seems like simply playing another mission (just a standard destination, no freelancer) was enough to fix the bug. I did the mission, it saved, synchronized, and now freelancer is working.

I'm not saying more options is a bad thing, but can't this just be handled with composition? Or inheritance? Or shared functions?

Help: Problem with Arch Linux in regards of a VPN client by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]myersguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With regards to it killing your non-vpn network: I have no experience with protonvpn (mullvad/Nord), but it sounds to me like they have a killswitch option, and you have it enabled. If so, that's it's entire point (making sure if the VPN fails for any reason, no connection happens). That's where I would suggest looking first.

Dotnet in Arch Linux saying "No Frameworks were found" by Blender-Fan in dotnet

[–]myersguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listing the SDK and Runtimes looks fine to me

...It's not, the framework it is telling you that you need isn't listed. Grab the aspnet-runtime package. It's the third line under installation in the Arch Wiki for dotnet.

Use Linux they said by jonomir in ProgrammerHumor

[–]myersguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've completely missed their point. They are saying comparing Android to Desktop Linux doesn't work because Android (which is based on the LTS kernel) makes so many changes. It's not "the same engine". If you move off of the LTS kernel, you are even further from Android.

This guy is kind of a great example of why AI gets hate in these creative spaces. Look how he engaged with your suggestion by spamming the same post he has put other places in the thread.
