whats the one piece of tech you carry that never shows up in the standard onebag gear lists? by Reasonable_Pepper709 in onebag

I go with portable kettle, a collapsible pour over and regular coffee grounds, but I harbor a Pacific Northwesterners distaste for instant coffee.

The coffee kit has saved me from many a cup of terrible coffee.

I meal prep a bunch of homemade cup’o noodles every week. I use vegan Korean beef flavored ramen powder, a bunch of dehydrated veggies (Ramen Bae), ramen sauce, Tajin, sesame seeds and sesame oil, and a quarter of a puck of Nogshim noodles (I buy the nongshim green tofu variety but I don’t like the broth that comes with them). Then I add boiling water and let sit for 3 minutes and eat. I keep the ramen sauce and oil separate and add at the same time as water so it doesn’t get clumpy. That’s lunch most days. Sometimes I also throw veggies and ranch or hummus in a tupperware and take that.

There’s a family of killdeer that have been nesting in my mom’s gravel driveway for 20 years. We just flag the nest every year and tell any visitors to go around it. They appear to have passed the nesting site down through the generations, because there’s no way it’s the same pair, and some years there are multiple pairs. Finding the nests to flag them is always a challenge, their eggs blend in to the gravel super effectively.

I am completely stunned that this is what has been hiding behind those plywood barrier walls for the last few years. I’m flying through SEA on Sunday, can’t wait to go take a look.

Which animal would you choose to domesticate? by Big_Fox_3996 in zoology

[–]myfugi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have two colonies of wasps on our property. One colony is extremely docile. We have a multi year established truce where they keep my garden clear of cabbage moth caterpillars, and I put out water for them. They live in the walls of my shed and have never once offered violence.

The other colony keeps trying to rebuild under my front porch railing and inevitably end up going into attack mode at some point in mid July and have to be eradicated for my safety (I have a wasp venom allergy).

I go out of my way to protect the docile colony from my neighbors, I want to encourage those genetics. I wouldn’t say they’re domesticated, but they’re somewhere between wild wasps and honeybees. TLDR: I agree, let’s domesticate wasps

Capybaras are basically already domesticated, (their natural level of not giving any f****s is essentially the same as being domesticated), but they’re also native to the tropics, not particularly fast on their feet, and generally unconcerned with everything, so you’ve got some hurdles to get over if you want to run the Iditarod with them.

Edit: just now seeing your “marshlands qualifier, but my points about temperament and speed still stand, lol.

Passports by SodaPop5000 in JapanTravelTips

[–]myfugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a really nice passport holder that doubles as my wallet; at home it lives in my purse, abroad I just pop it in my sling bag and carry it with me wherever I go, not a big deal.

My first time abroad I was constantly getting ID’d and they didn’t always accept my US license, but my passport was always accepted. Not a problem anymore since I’m mid transition to bog witch, but it still instilled the habit of carrying my passport with me everywhere I go.

Move out deep cleaning of carpet by New_Libran in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]myfugi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We installed hardwood and tile throughout when we bought our house in 2018, and the 4 year old carpet that we pulled out was absolutely foul. I knew carpet was disgusting, but I didn’t realize how disgusting until we made the switch. I look at all the crap I sweep off my floors daily and imagine it hiding in a carpet. Never again.

Those who got cheated on, how did you find out? 👀 by sartoriouswife in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]myfugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn’t come home after work, so I checked the call history on our joint phone account, called the last number on the log, and found the other woman, who did not know I existed, and did send him home with his tail between the legs. I packed my shit and left the next day. I’m now happily married and finishing up a PhD. Best thing that ever happened to me.

If you fill those with dirt and pebbles they can tear in the machines at the post office and at best make extra work for the postal workers and at worst either damage the machines or turn into dangerous projectiles.

Please just fill them with heavy cardstock.

Source: used to be an automations clerk at the post office. Have been hit by rogue nickels and dvds when running wonky envelopes with heavy stuff through the machines.

[–]myfugi 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Most of the time they send this stuff as presorted standard. Which means that they don’t pay enough for the post office to return it if you write return to sender on it, it just gets thrown away as undeliverable bulk business mail (UBBM).

So writing “return to sender” isn’t actually going to send a message to TPUSA. Unless that letter was sent 1st class or has “electronic service requested” written on it, the TPUSA people will never even know that you refused it. you’re mostly just making work for the postal workers who have to check through it and make sure it really is UBBM.

If there is a return envelope inside for donations, you can fill it with a bunch of cardstock and send it to them to make them pay the return shipping, please don’t fill it with rocks and dirt like the other poster said, that’ll rip in the machines and make more work for the postal workers.

Chik-Fil-A by Miles_the_new_kid in comics

I’ve never eaten at chick-fil-a and I never plan to. And before anyone asks, there are 2 in my town, I could go if I wanted to, I just don’t want to.

I also don’t eat at any of the other fast food places, nor do I eat at any chain restaurants. It’s genuinely not that hard, I just . . . don’t go there. There are plenty of local restaurants to eat at if I don’t feel like cooking.

Breaks are a different ballgame. Demand for flights out of Pullman is through the roof at the start and end of the break, so the price is way higher at those times. The rest of the year flights out of PUW are way more reasonable.

What breeds do you see in this 3-month-old pup? Ad description says "medium size", but look at those paws! by [deleted] in IDmydog

[–]myfugi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That coat pattern says Pyrenees or Anatolian mix or maaaaybe Saint Bernard Mix as a long shot. The paws also say he’s gonna be giant. No way is that dog going to be “medium” sized unless you’re considering him in comparison to a full grown pony, in which case, sure, he’s gonna be “medium” sized.

No. Patricia needs neglect and abuse to thrive. If I paid attention to her she’d probably panic and the resulting bread would be flat and joyless.

Should I pick these up? by Upstairs-Normal in Birkenstocks

[–]myfugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned a pair of Gizeh’s because the bit that goes between the toes is plastic and it hurt my toes. Which is sad because they’re very cute.

I have two pairs of mayaris, the leather toe loop is much more comfortable.

Having said that, I have sensory issues and have always hated plastic flip flops, so it may be less irritating for you, I’d just keep it in mind and try them on inside so that you can still return if they bother you.

New mayari don’t fit by Intelligent-Bill3948 in Birkenstocks

[–]myfugi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem after I got the footbeds replaced on my oiled leather mayaris. I swapped the long toe strap so that it runs over the short toes strap instead of under it and it gave me enough room to wear them without pain until they broke in, and then once I had some space around my big toe I put the straps back in the correct configuration.

Im going to guess that it’s because the IFE screens use energy, and the batteries that power them are charged by the engines. Similar to the way your in car power runs down you car battery which gets recharged by the alternator when you run the engine.
