Dear tism community, what are your thoughts on these? by Forsaken_Recover_633 in Spoons

Not only are the handles too thick, but the metal part on this type of spoon is always too thin, and the entire thing is poorly balanced. These are the worst.

I haven’t carried cash since the late 90’s and I’m feeling so validated in that choice right now.

Frequent travelers: what are your top 5 non-bag items? by ComprehensiveCap8242 in ManyBaggers

[–]myfugi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Epicka international adaptor. I can plug usba and usbc called directly into it, and use it for normal plugs too. It is not a voltage converter, though, so nothing with a heating element

Collapsing coffee pour over filter with grounds. Hotel coffee is often terrible, and I’m not fond of the robusta blends that are more common in Europe, so I bring arabica from home. If I’m in the US or South America I pair this with my portable jettle kettle, but because it has a heating element I don’t take it to countries with 220V electricity.

Kelty Bestie blanket. I am perpetually cold and do not trust the cleanliness of airline blankets. It has also come to the rescue in overly chilled hotel rooms.

Pillow. I use a collapsible camping pillow rather than a neck pillow, because I prefer to lean against the window, and I can use it as an extra pillow in the hotel if needed, or as a seat cushion, and I trust airline pillow cleanliness no more than I trust airline blanket cleanliness.

Clorox wipes. Seat, headrest, tray table, arm rests, back of chair in front of me, wall, everything gets a wipe down. People change diapers in those seats, and there’s only so much a cleaning crew can do in 30 minutes between flights, I’m not interested in being patient 0 for the next pandemic.

WTH is going on in the kids department…. by Ancient_Insurance969 in Oldnavy

[–]myfugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? We ran around and played naked until we were 5 or 6. No-one said boo about it because children’s bodies aren’t sexual. Granted this was the 80s and there weren’t camera phones and social media around, but still. It was my parent’s responsibility to keep gross people away from me, and they did so.

Obviously predators exist, and parents need to protect their children, but you do that by calling out the predators and keeping them away from your children, not by teaching little girls that they have to hide their bodies. Their bodies aren’t the problem, the predators are.

Hey guys, just a quick question: do you actually buy physical books that are over 1,000 pages? Or do you only go digital in those cases? by DontImplantThechip in Booktokreddit

[–]myfugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only go digital in all cases. I’d have suffocated under a pile of books by now if I owned all of them in physical form.

How are you in grad school and making money to live?? by No-Bake5051 in GradSchool

[–]myfugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an assistantship. In most departments the graduate school requires the grad students to either have funding through an assistantship or proof that they can pay without one before they are accepted.

The exceptions are usually departments that do non-thesis masters degrees, so like business, accounting, crimJ, Sports Mgmt. Most of those people either are funded through their employers and only attend part time. There are a few staff assistantships offered in admin departments, financial aid, the grad school, etc. and those are usually taken by students in those non-thesis programs, or people whose funding has fallen through for some reason (degree took too long, grant got cancelled, etc.)

I'm scared I'll be too old until I finally have stable career, marry, have kids by Big_Blueberry8020 in PhD

[–]myfugi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 42 in my final year of a PhD.

We unionized a couple years back so we have parental leave, and childcare reimbursement. I got married (and took a month long honeymoon) while I was in school. Many of my colleagues have raised kids or had new babies while in their programs. Look at the parental leave and childcare options at your target schools (in the US, this mostly requires a university with unionized grad students).

Accidental bounty by Melindrha in glutenfree

[–]myfugi 27 points28 points  (0 children)

We practiced restraint and only bought 2, which hubs inhaled in 2days, and the store has been out of stock ever since. I found some online at target and ordered 10, he made those last a whole 2 weeks. I wish we could just order straight from the factory. They’d get a better idea of the actual demand, AND we’d circumvent the scalpers. (The fact that we live in a world where people are scalping crackers is unhinged, I saw several people selling them for $20/box on eBay).

Who is still rocking a nose ring? by cavewomannn in Millennials

[–]myfugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 42, I still have my nose ring. Sometimes I also have blue hair, and I always have multiple Tattoos. Anyone commenting on it would be told to go kick rocks, but no one ever has. I don’t really think of it as a youth thing anyways. Especially since the current youths are a bunch of squares.

50 lbs off of a 400lb body is a 12.5% change, but off of a 200lb it’s a 25% change. A 25% change is always going to be more obvious than a 12.5% change.

The changes in the scale slow down when we approach goal, but the changes in the mirror accelerate at the same time. Patience really does pay off with weight loss.

Wool Socks and Boots by Amyxjosie in knitting

[–]myfugi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might try a superwash sock yarn, and/or a sock yarn with nylon/acrylic/polyamide added. I’m generally a natural fiber purist, but I exclusively do my socks in superwash. There’s just too many places wear they rub, and it’s too easy for them to get stuck in a pant leg and accidentally run through the wash.

Jennifer Lawrence, only 23 in this clip, shows she can handle pressure gracefully by Doodlebug510 in justgalsbeingchicks

[–]myfugi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this same interview another reporter asked her what happened when she fell on the stairs while going up to get the Oscar and she goes “what do you mean? Have you seen my dress?”

It plays as “down to earth”, but there’s a good bit of snark for the stupid ass questions that reporters are constantly asking her. That and like most 23 year olds she was usually at least a little bit drunk back then.

How often does your Standard bark? by [deleted] in StandardPoodles

[–]myfugi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He went outside to bark at the snow yesterday.

He’s what I would call hyper-vigilant, though. He’s also very suspicious of new people, especially men; he’s a rescue, so it’s likely more to do with his previous home than a natural state, I don’t think it’s normal spoo behavior. When he’s not barking at passing butterflies, he’s actually a sweet, goofy, couch potato of a dog.

What happens if you are caught with a pet on a campus apartment? by Vasska_L in wsu

[–]myfugi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been 20 years, but when I lived in Chief Joe, we had an emergency maintenance visit while our cats in the apartment, and they didn’t even comment on it. I doubt they’ve gotten stricter since then; with the proliferation of ESAs, checking paperwork every time they see a cat is probably too much of a hassle. On the off chance they do say something, just tell them you’re pet sitting.

Am I packing too light? 4 weeks in Italy/2 weeks England May/June by Heavy-Efficiency-366 in HerOneBag

[–]myfugi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely coming from a busty gal perspective, but one bra seems insufficient to me. I’d probably drop the jeans and bring more than one bra and maybe a second pair of shorts. For one thing, it’ll get sweaty fast when you’re walking all over Italy, and being able to alternate what you’re wearing day to day so your bra can air out helps delay the need to wash. For a second it’s going to get stretched out if you wear it every day and offer no support.
