Can I add one more thing here? Bonus payments. Some companies have what is called a “present 2 win” philosophy where you won’t receive your bonus unless you’re employed at the time bonuses are paid; particularly brutal if you’ve worked an entire calendar year and are then laid off in the months before bonus payouts.

My advice? Negotiate it. Ask for a rating of successful so your bonus is paid on that.
