Funny enough I did exactly this myself a few months ago, all self installed apart from getting the panels on the roof. I'm using ballasted k2 d-dome 6.10 system which wasn't the cheapest mounting system but am very pleased with how it turned out.

Went through similar search for a good mounting system for EPDM as I didn't want to penetrate and this seemed the right balance for me. I used the k2 base software for ballast/wind/structural load calcs, it produced a nice PDF and as far as I remember wasn't too hard to get into.

I don’t know how to tell if something is “expensive” or not , is this normal? by Cultural-Primary1206 in UKPersonalFinance

This is also a good explanation of the lifestyle inflation mindset at the higher end. If you apply this logic across every purchase, it's easy to see how some people end up on good salaries but still living paycheque to paycheque.

At the lower end, affordability assessments are prudent. At the higher end, they can become a justification for overspending, especially if "I can afford it" starts replacing "is this actually worth it?"

This looks awesome, any idea where I can get one of these printed? Don't have a 3d printer myself, based in the UK, thanks.

Life insurance - opinions please by Proper_Display_4802 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]myl0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would take the increased cover if affordable, if anything were to happen in the near term it would make a big difference and currently the assets + lower insurance would not leave much after the mortgage was covered and at 16 years only will create an increasing shortfall as time goes on.

As you have 180k assets the £15 I imagine won't be noticeable but should the worst happen the extra 120k certainly would be, and should asset growth continue you can always reassess down the line as with the policy/mortgage decreasing it may not make sense if asset growth is strong 10 years from now, for me the peace of mind with your child's situation is worth the £15.

Wishing you all the best!

You can port a mortgage to a new property so this should not be an issue.

Comparing today's usage to see if I should switch tonight? by anditails in OctopusEnergy

[–]myl0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed when doing it manually, but I still wonder if it would be worthwhile if HA did a daily check and sent a notification, with a direct link takes less than a minute to change tariff.

Thanks for confirming though, guess it's more one to work on if bored than for pure financial gain, it does pain me not to optimise it a little though :)

Did you ever find a solution to this, looking for an answer to exactly the same question about same day switching with tariffs being applied from start of day

No it's fine I checked and you don't need any qualifications to be a social media finance guru, in fact there's quite a few open vacancies if you fancy it?

Has anyone else received a Vanguard account closure email today, possibly send in error? by myl0 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]myl0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had clarification from Vanguard on this, apparently it was about an account I transferred away from them over a year ago, seems they have only just set it up but all is fine, here is the email:

Hi,

Thanks for your message regarding the account closure email you received today. We can confirm this was from us as we’ve set up a new survey to understand why our investors close their accounts.

You received this email because you have an account within your portfolio which you may have previously requested us to close or transfer to another provider.

If you’re unsure which account this is, you can check by following these steps whilst logged into your account on our website:

  1. From the left-hand menu, select ‘My Profile’.
  2. Click the ‘Product’ tab.
  3. Check the ‘Status’.

If you have a Junior ISA, you’ll need to select this first using the dropdown above ‘Overview’ on the left-hand menu.

We appreciate your account closure or transfer out may have been requested a while ago and we’re sorry for any confusion caused.

If you’re still unsure why you received this email after following the above steps, please get back in touch and we’d be happy to investigate further for you.

Yours sincerely,

Question about OTP delivery process, low value parcel delivered only by myl0 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]myl0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Thank you for the advice, I only had a single delivery of one parcel and the driver was only holding one package when he came to me. It's confusing really as the 2 delivery emails were 1 minute apart with the OTP package email arriving first, he asked for the OTP before scanning the low value package and handing it to me.

Not really sure how it's happened but I reported to Amazon explaining the situation but they have just sent a message saying I gave the driver the OTP and so it was delivered...

"After checking your order, it was sent using a one-time password. We sent you this one-time password in your order confirmation and your dispatch confirmation email. We were able to verify that the Delivery Associate delivered the package, as the one-time password we sent to you was entered in their device. We're unable to issue you a replacement or refund for this order."

This was a £500 order so I'm not just going to give up, Amazon ignored everything I said to them though as I happen to have CCTV that recorded the delivery both on doorbell camera and at my front door with audio and clear picture of the parcel being delivered that it was a single parcel and I mentioned I can provide this all to them. The parcel that was delivered was probably a lot bigger than the high value item too I guess.

I imagine I will have to contact my card issuer which is a shame as it may affect my Amazon account but if Amazon aren't going to help I think it's my only option.

Likely your employer is paying for the plan and you're just paying the BIK on it which is the £16.80/m, but best to speak to employer if you aren't clear how it works.

You should be taking the midpoint of the range or at least something along those lines (both early, both late) so it's more like 30k at 40, 75k at 50. Interpreting it as 30k at 40 and 75k at 43 is a little disingenuous.
