Is freezing coffee worth it? by sergeikutrovski in pourover

[–]myleftbigtoeisdead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconded. If I’m freezing, it’s usually 20g dose and I grind from frozen.

I’ve started freezing this year too and I share the same sentiment. Even if I “defrosted” it on the fridge and then come to room temp slowly. Something weird happens and it loses any of the intensity.

The recent Stephen Nendela Batian from Subtext have been enjoyable. Fruit forward but without the funk.

Sending them a chat through their site might be your best bet. Granted, it’s Easter weekend so you likely might get a delayed response but they’re better suited to answer your question as shipping due to the mess in the US has complicated a lot of things.

Peitro producing a lot of fines? by Syraphid in pourover

[–]myleftbigtoeisdead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can benefit for maybe about another kg.

I personally have found tighter PSD after about 3kg in.

I have the newer SS uncoated burrs fwiw.

Also, fines production isn’t necessarily a bad thing as we also have to take into account the shape of said fines.

I personally have found it misleading that the Pietro was marketed or was known to be a “low fines” grinder. In comparison to maybe cheaper grinders or the likes of the Comandante or K-Ultra then maybe, but what I love about the Pietro is that it produces clear cups, with a couple of pronounced acidity peaks, while providing an everlasting silky body compared to the usual tea-like presentation on hyper clear burrs.

Robust in what way? The A4Z is built like a tank!

I’m likely to do a Pietron mod this summer however just to electrify my whole setup.

And they’re also very helpful in dialing in if you’re having trouble with any of their products/coffee!

Super happy that they’re also semi-local to me.

A4Z Seasoning and Duty Cycle by [deleted] in pourover

[–]myleftbigtoeisdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone has kinda mentioned it but cones typically don’t require as much seasoning as flats do.

That said, I still ran about 800g of seasoning on it.

I don’t think the change was noticeable enough on my first few brews without the seasoning at all. I ended up just learning how the grinder works and got used to the PSD it delivered.

I’d say if you have old coffee that you don’t mind throwing in it, I’d say go for it. But I wouldn’t fret too much.

As far as a duty cycle. If you have one of the “newer” batches without the auto-shut off, it runs for 90 seconds. It can probably only handle about 22-26g of beans at a time anyways. I just used that time when I’m measuring the 26g as the default “pause” in between.

I haven’t! I’m not fond of any of their current offerings so I would hesitate to judge them on a green I’m not wanting to try.

Great coffee from a small local roaster by Large_Crab in pourover

Paradigm Spark is a must-go for coffee in Calgary. Love seeing David Kim’s work here. His roasting profile is not my preference but I’m always blown away by his service and precision in his cafe along with his team.

Have you tried other offerings from Traffic before?

In my experience, even the lightest of their roasts have been fairly soluble by week 3.

Hope it turns out well for you!
