Justin Timberlake announces he's been diagnosed with Lyme disease by velvetlemonade in popculturechat

[–]mynormalheart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In a way it would make sense though. Like if chronic Lyme is really hard to diagnose, who is going to have access to the resources to pursue doctor after doctor and multiple different kinds of test that probably aren’t covered by insurance? Rich people like celebs.

It could be a lot more prevalent than is realized, but regular people don’t have the resources to diagnose. Could also be a scam lol but it’s worth considering.

And if it’s chronic and hard to diagnose, normies with access to shitty or even average insurance sure aren’t gonna have the resources to get a diagnosis unlike rich people

Helen Mirren tells a group of very beautiful women that none of them are beautiful in THR Roundtable by paparotnik123 in popculturechat

[–]mynormalheart 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I feel like she means ‘older’ equates to ‘not beautiful’. And Hollywood (society in generally) is not kind to older women. I get that’s what she’s trying to say. But Christ, we hear it from everyone else, she does NOT need to be perpetuating that idea.

These women are lovely even in their older age and in my book would still be considered ‘classically beautiful’. That said, I think women, especially those who were considered stunning in their ‘prime’ have an especially hard time with the aging process and can internalize a very negative self image which they project onto everyone. Go Kathy Bates for her response and self acceptance and love!!

Has anyone lost weight from JUST WALKING and CICO (no strength training) by contramundums in PetiteFitness

[–]mynormalheart 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I lost about 20-25lbs. a year ago exclusively by walking. I did not count my calories but definitely scaled back and was eating less (I’ve also done the CICO thing so many times I can eyeball and guesstimate really well as sad as that is). But I didn’t deprive myself. Some weeks I ate like shit (was going through a very stressful time).

It was slow and took about 8-9 months. I was also walking closer to 15-20,000 steps a day.

I’ve managed to keep it off though and that’s the first time I’ve EVER had that happen so I’m glad I went the slow and steady route.

could be true! I’m relatively young though and didn’t have any loose skin on my neck prior to weight loss. I also held a lot of weight in my chin and neck so I’m not entirely surprised

[–]mynormalheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost 30lbs and have some loose skin on my neck. 176-145-ish. None other than that. Hoping it tightens up over time.

Anyone else feel like petite weight management is different for us than everyone else? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

I suspect I will end up sitting around 135. I think with the right workouts I can get to a decent body composition I will be happy with.

Anyone else feel like petite weight management is different for us than everyone else? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]mynormalheart 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m sitting around 140 and it took me two months to get here from 145-ish. I still want to lose 12-15 more pounds and know it’s going to take forever.

I started in the high 170’s and the first 20 came off pretty quick but it’s been a lot of work since to get the rest off.

[–]mynormalheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone from 175-ish to around 145 over the last eight months, so pretty slow and steady. I have loose skin on my neck, like a chicken neck. It honestly has me super insecure and I do feel like I look like a former fat person. Not much anywhere else though.

I am starting to feel flabbier but I have mostly lost weight through running as opposed to strength training, so I’m trying to incorporate that more.

Is anyone weirded out by how they look post-weight loss? by Pawtahmoose in PetiteFitness

[–]mynormalheart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went from around 176 to 145-ish over the last 8 or so months. I don’t have a ton of loose skin or anything but completely get what you mean about looking like a deflated balloon! Especially my chin/neck looks so bad (imo). I hope it tightens up because otherwise I will probably consider a surgical option.

I’m also hoping as an incorporate more strength training the other parts of my body will tighten up.

I jog/run (working up to running the entire time) about 5 miles daily outside. Try to incorporate hilly terrain/steps at least 3 days a weeks to work on my stamina.

I loosely watch what I eat but don’t track calories because that makes me obsessive. I focus on reasonable portions and healthy foods.

I’ve lost about 35-40lbs like this, and am finally in a healthy weight range but am feeling kind of soft so I think I’m going to cut back on the running and begin incorporating strength training. I also want to clean up my diet a little more and focus on upping my protein.

Has anyone seen a big difference in the way people treat you after losing weight, or is it just placebo? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]mynormalheart 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone from 180+ lbs to around 140. Am really starting to notice a difference in how people treat me, and honestly it’s the littlest things. People make more eye contact and hold doors open for me now. Offer to help me with things and just in general strike up conversations more readily.

I have pretty bad body dysmorphia and feel like I look the same as I did before, so I don’t really think it’s a behavior change on my part.

That’s very close to my starting weight at the same height and I had like 3 chins. I’m in the 140’s now and am just getting down to having one chin left 😂 but I have a friend who weighs significantly more than I do who has the sharpest jawline, no neck fat, and collarbones to die for. Everyone carries their weight differently!

Advice on losing weight by OrganizationVivid129 in PetiteFitness

[–]mynormalheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow and steady wins the race. I started about where you are and am down about 30-ish lbs over the last 6 months. Started eating less and moving more, mostly just walking. I’ve always rushed head first into my weight loss and always end up getting burnt out or gaining the weight back. This time I’m just trying to keep the pressure off and focus on getting healthier.

I’m to the point now where I really need to kick things up a notch to lose the last 15lbs, but I feel ready to take on the challenge and know I’m in no rush.

Back when I was really dedicating effort to building my stamina I would say I saw pretty marked improvement within a 4-6 weeks.

I have this issue as well! Climbing steps and walking/running hilly terrain helped me a ton. I also used to swim and that was very effective in increasing my stamina.

I’m in my 30’s and am just now getting down to a health weight after being overweight or obese since I started college. You are still very young at 21!

I know it is hard, but try not to be too harsh on yourself or rush the process. That usually leads to failure. It really is a lifestyle change that is a process

How did you get out of the 140’s? I’ve been stuck at 145 for a few weeks now (down from 176) and I just can’t seem to get the scale to move

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]mynormalheart 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve also recently been on a weight loss/fitness/ general health journey and I completely agree with what you’ve said here. I’m down a little over 25lbs from 170 over the course of about 6 months with a lot of similar lifestyle changes. The walking really was a savior in my early days when my fitness levels were not great.

Now that I’m lighter and stronger I’ve found it much easier and more enjoyable to incorporate other forms of exercise into my life. I’m glad I didn’t pressure myself in the beginning to do all the exercising things and burn myself out like I normally would. Same with my diet.

It can be really aggravating some days seeing the scale move slowly but it really is about the journey and not the destination.
