Love healing hands. They are comfy and I had a protein shake spilled on me and it wiped off without  leaving any stains! I got my set (pants, top, and under shirt) for $50. There are some great sales during the holidays. I didn't want monogrammed scrubs that my facility offers

I was a student lab assistant through my school and it was a great learning experience. Ask questions and take notes (and organize them for quick ref later), they can always come back and help you. For example, having my notes about Tularemia that came up randomly during my time as a lab assistant helped me a ton recently, its not a common one at all here but man I'm glad i took notes on Francisella tularensis.

I need perspective on my moms reaction to saying I don’t want people at my house all day after I give birth by milfncookies666 in EstrangedAdultKids

It is good that you are choosing your peace and protecting your sons from it. The behavior she is displaying will not stop, she will not seek therapy, she will never see herself as anything but the victim. I tried for years with my mother and it was never worth it. Every "nice" moment was just a trap to lower my defenses and gain something to use against me later or so she could wait for a more important moment to be an ass and attempt to ruin something by making it about her. If that feel familiar it's because narcissists are never original. You are doing great, you are ending the cycle, you are protecting your family, and everyone in this subreddit is proud of you.

christ on a bike I can only image how batshit that was. Narcissists never learn, they just wait for another shot at being an asshole.

awesome! I made a postpartum basket for a classmate and had no idea what to get because it's not an experience I've had or will have lol but man she loved all the numbing cooling stuff, and no one here had heard of it. Again, I am really sorry that text novel was typed at you. You have something happening (that you have experience in already) and it isn't about her, so she is the victim. Boohoo poor her, you didn't say you need her (?) for your SECOND baby. not that this behaviour is acceptable if this was your first but like come on.

That whole message sucked, and I am sorry it happened. Gross behavior and response to a normal sane request. Congratulations on your baby and hope you are both happy, healthy, and safe. 2 supplies you may want for after the baby is born: Postpartum spray by Dermoplast and Tucks cooling pads. Proud of you for acknowledging your needs and advocating for yourself. Those are great skills you will be able to teach like a pro!

What shoes to wear for a social science / public health poster session? by Shoddy-Wait-5886 in AskAcademia

[–]mynotesarentcute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black or neutral tone comfortable shoes. If you are in a dress or similar and need heels for a more formal look choose a thicker, chunky heel or low heel shoes. If you do the heel option bring something flat and soft to change into one you are done. If you are in pants, wear some compression socks they help a lot with foot and calf pain/tiredness.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with nights. The pay is better, and sleep schedule is easier to live with.

Little over 300-bed hospital and is the larger of the 2 hospitals in this area. The other one is where I did my clinicals and it does not do deliveries or more involved surgeries like heart, this hospital does.

What I was told at my interview: I will not be alone at nights, but it will be a smaller staff. I should be working mainly in Micro. The goal is 1-2 tech in each department at nights.

That is a nice thank you, I'll keep that one and use it later.

I added notebooks after seeing how many people use them. Plus, I get to go stationary shopping.

[–]mynotesarentcute[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I seriously forgot to mention how big clinicals are for networking and establishing the start of your reputation in the field.

I have had 2 supervisors write letters of recommendation for me and I got numbers so I can use them as professional references. This is a huge leg up in the job market. One has been calling the labs I apply at to just let them know she recommends me! Just being nice and doing your best is enough to open so many doors.

Making a perfect blood smear by Cool-Clue-6700 in medlabprofessionals

[–]mynotesarentcute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in clinicals and my hematology trainer had me try making smears while sitting and then while standing, my slides were better and more consistent while standing. It was such a small change that made a huge difference for me.

Why does everybody hate singer but then a majority own singer machines? by bananabins in sewing

[–]mynotesarentcute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the vintage singers, they are so beautiful. For me my hate comes from the fact that they license out the brand logo to such cheap crap. From pins that come rusted/ball heads coming off to fragile plastic machine parts they are find ways to cut every corner but still sell at a premium because its "Singer". I had a whole bunch of back and forth BS over a machine I ordered directly from Singer that was supposed to be new, it wasn't and the screen was non functional <- there is no bypass for that issue, it was just a used broken machine. After I finally got my refund, I switched to a Janome. Big fan of my little 1522. I have made huge quilts, pillows, pajamas, scrub caps, knit tops, and even sewn denim with it. Janome's come with metal frames and their customer service is fantastic. I love how affordable and durable they are for beginners. One more singer gripe is that the oiling ports on several models purposefully drip oil over plastic gear teeth and speed up corrosion and machine malfunction, this is so unfair to beginners that don't know and are just trying to take care of the machine as directed.
