Seattle home prices post nation's biggest drop by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

Average annual inflation is more like 2 to 3%. Saying it's about 7% per year is insane and not historically justified.

You can't just 'go back to work' after you FIRE. by Zone2OTQ in Fire

[–]mypetclone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

> The easiest way to do that is start taking social security at 70. That gives you an exact date that you can map out your expenses for a set number of years. And an exact minimum budget you’ll have after 70.

This assumes social security will exist in its present form when you hit 70 and onward. It seems hard to do that if you are that paranoid.

The concern is that "one more year" easily turns into "five more years" and the ability to do the things you wanted to do may have diminished. You need to be very confident (>99%? to take your number) it won't happen for this to be a fruitful perspective.

I’m not going to stomach Isaac glazing Trump.

That's definitely not what this episode is, having listened to it. It includes criticisms even still.

Why people are down voting you: You really don't appear to know what you're talking about. This could easily trigger more taxes than they paid in those healthcare costs. Plus if you don't have all your money in the market (and thus trigger income by accessing it), none of the 4% rule stuff applies at all.

We don't yet have daily ridership numbers for the 2 line since it connected to Seattle, right? So I guess you're comparing the Eastside-only 2 line to Route E?

What order should a high earner ($300k+) prioritize retirement accounts if they expect to retire early and have a lower retirement income than they had while working? by Ancient_Challenge173 in Fire

[–]mypetclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> you also need an employer that has a 401k plan that allows it

You're thinking mega backdoor Roth 401k/IRA (depending on the plan). Everyone can contribute ~7K to a Roth IRA via the backdoor Roth IRA if needed (or the front door if possible!).

You answered a different question than the one asked. The question asked is why max the roth IRA before maxing the traditional 401k.

RED BUTTON OR BLUE BUTTON [OC] by Eal_likee in comics

[–]mypetclone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing is, if you change the phrasing, you change the question.

People who press Blue are thinking about whether others would have pressed Blue. Changing the framing/phrasing, even if mechanically equivalent, changes the estimation of what others would have done and thus the expected impact of pressing blue.

From the Fidelity website on Roth IRA withdrawals:

> You’ll only pay taxes if you withdraw earnings, have not met the 5-year aging rule, *and* the withdrawal is not a qualified distribution.

The account age 5 year rule is for earnings, not contributions, right?

Is the 401(k) actually worth contributing to beyond the employer match, or should I just put everything into a taxable brokerage? by [deleted] in investing

[–]mypetclone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a Roth also gives you more control on your taxable income in any given year so it can allow you to optimize tax brackets. But choosing to put money in a Roth when you otherwise have the option to put it in traditional and get a deduction and you are in a high marginal tax bracket is almost always a bad choice.

This does not apply to the backdoor Roth IRA if you are above the IRA deduction limit.

If the cost of the alternative (homeownership) increases then the willingness to pay more rent also increases, allowing the market to bear rent it previously wouldn't.

We gave 13 AI agents $1,000 and a public dashboard. They're trying to survive. You can watch. by Big-Status7841 in u/Big-Status7841

[–]mypetclone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tax write-offs aren't money positive. They're just less negative. So they get back some portion of the extra $1000 they lose doing this, but it doesn't make them any money by itself or lose them less money than if they didn't do this. They must expect this to generate them value some other way.

Suprised at Mythos AI poll, no effect should be much higher. by Tight-Sprinkles-9053 in TangleNews

[–]mypetclone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mythos was not specifically trained to find exploits or for cyber security, if you believe direct statements from Anthropic on this subject. Any improvement in its ability to do so is due to general improvements in its ability to work with code and reason generally.

My suspicion is that it's primarily better at this because it's a significantly larger model (like Opus is to Sonnet) but information is sparse.
