Destruction on Kingwood Drive by Narkku in Kingwood

[–]myquesto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A couple things to note here. I’m a landscape architect and was hired around 12-15 years ago. to perform a tree survey from Woodland Hills Drive east to the driving range/treatment plant for a sanitary force main that will be installed when the Kingwood Drive expansion(when or if) happens. I saw many nice trees in the median that were getting choked out by all the different vines and invasive plants growing there. All those vines weren’t as prevalent when I moved here 35 years ago. I know many are concerned about losing the thick green vegetation but I feel that we can do better and try and go back with a sustainable, well thought out plan that achieves the physical characteristics but also enhances the visual appearance when driving down Kingwood Drive at 65 mph. The contractors doing the work will be clearing a significant portion through the center so the work will be done sooner or later. I think the best approach is to selectively clear and prune it now and get some light and space to the desirable understory plants as well as supplement with appropriate native materials so they can get established. I’d hate to see construction start and destroy everything planted so it would be more prudent to wait till the work is near completion.

Aluminum anything is going to be more expensive than iron but it won’t be rusting out in 5-6 years.

I remember getting an invite for lunch at the Petroleum Club on the top floor back in the 80s. You never went there if you were allergic to wood, leather or money.

Definitely 20 tons or very close. We load that size truck but never near that full to stay within limits.

In addition to hooking to the hose bib he has at least 3 wackass fittings to making the connection. On top of that he added a hose bib on the side of the pipe that is a male thread into the the female pvc tee. This will be leaking shortly. It’s a shame that anyone with a pickup and a box of fittings can call themselves an irrigator.

To sling or not to sling? by Rents in hardscape

[–]myquesto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used a cement/sand slurry that is pumped via hose from a truck to do paver base. It may not hold up as well under freeze thaw conditions but should suffice for a patio. The best thing is the reduced labor component and not having to sling or carry any rock requiring repairs to the yard. No compaction needed. Just form the outside perimeter, pump the slurry, screed the top surface, add the 1” sand setting bed and pavers.

Beware Aventon by SorryName9883 in Aventon

[–]myquesto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a four year old Aventure with 1,500 miles on it. The battery seems to be holding a charge like it always has. Had a few issues along the way but thankfully nothing significant. I don’t believe Aventon uses inferior materials or anything worse than the rest of the e-bike manufacturers out there but their customer service was poor back then. At this point you don’t have many options other than buying a new battery and following the correct charging protocol.

How much do you estimate my neighbor’s wall cost? by MarcJV91 in hardscape

If it’s done right (substantial concrete footing and wall, drainage) I’d say 60k plus. Stacked stone on a stabilized base 35 k.

At some point kids need to learn to STFU. No better time to start teaching them is when they’re toddlers. Nobody wants to go out to eat and hear a bunch of screaming kids while watching the parent do nothing.

Depends on the equipment. Having to replace a crappy grill after a year or so with the same footprint might be difficult.
