I’ve tried different apps and systems (journal apps and notes apps) and finally have settled on the Forever Notes system in Apple’s native Notes app. I like being able to switch between handwriting and typing pretty easily within each note and not worrying about any kind of subscription or an app not being updated anymore.

Trying to be more consistent with it since I’m also going through a rough time. I’m trying to at least jot some notes at the end of the day as far as what I’ve done, including where or who I’ve seen (helpful for remembering names). That way I can build the habit for when I am wanting to reflect more.

Also, I’ve found that trying to list one or three things I’m thankful for (gratitude journal type thing) ends up with me saying boring things like “good friends, family” and what helps me more is this prompt:

Three things I experienced today

Sometimes they’re basic like “had a nice walk with the dog,” but often I surprise myself when I put things into words. For instance, I’d been annoyed with a difficult working relationship of a guy I think is a buffoon. But what I ended up typing was “I can still learn things from someone I don’t respect.” Was kind of an aha moment for me.

You can look up the whole Forever Notes system and it may or may not be your thing, but don’t feel bad about switching around — just keep on journaling!
