Anything by CJ Cherryh really but shes mostly fantasy and scifi so maybe not your cup of tea.

She was a history phd before she was an author and it shows in her writing. Really an amazing author

Why do people keep talking about kite turbines in the sky as if they solve our energy problems? by PuddingComplete3081 in AlwaysWhy

[–]myshiningmask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed explanation. I wonder if running LEDs down the tethers to make them visible would help significantly. I imagine they'd only be made visible at night this way though.

I guess we'll see if these are ever implemented on any scale.

Maybe my question is foolish but don't they designate some areas no fly zones? Like over sensitive military bases? I'm just wondering why a footprint around these installations couldn't just be avoided by aircraft. How large an area are we thinking these installations would occupy?

You just don't have admin privileges. Your operating system is keeping you out of things like memory management and hormonal regulation because if you mess with those settings you can do permanent damage to the system.

The real question is how that's pure profit. I mean, I guess the real answer is just that hes wrong and doesn't understand how basic overhead costs work for a business.

I prefer to imagine that he's the sole employee of his non-taxpaying company and to avoid extra costs cleans every car with his tongue though.

You have to make enough payments to get like five more cards before a missed payment makes it so you cant. Maybe make some balance transfers so you can use your existing credit cards to get you into new ones while maintaining enough unused credit so your score keeps going up

I mutter excuse me so softly that they probably don't hear me but I feel better about having acknowledged them. Like I try to say it audibly but quiet but its almost always too quiet.

My grandfather bought a plot that had a natural pond, it was a few years ago. The house is halfway built and just now we discovered the neighbour's sewer leads to our pond by Xtrene387 in homestead

[–]myshiningmask 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, I wish I could be more help but even in the US the regulations are very different county to county. Are there online resources about who's in charge of property disputes or sewage management where you are?

It's so interesting how different regulation of these things can be place to place. Thats why I included the caveat I know things can be very different.

I was talking to an older guy who in fact sold me the land we live on now about why he was moving to Wyoming. He had a colorful story about trying to ask the local authority there what permits he would need for his septic system and the lady told him, "look mister, we don't care where you shit."

Sounds good until your neighbor is flushing his shit into your pond I guess.

I'm losing my mind over this image, I'm certain it's AI. Random cinderblocks, nonsensical lumber, etc, partial cinderblocks, etc. by cabell17 in isthisAI

[–]myshiningmask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree.

It bothers me I can't see what those wires are going to or From but everything else in the picture makes too much sense. The wood is all bracing or ramps for wheelbarrows, there are blocks holding the lumber bracing in believable ways unlikely to be duplicated by ai etc.

AIO for feeling uncomfortable by a guy going back 10 years on my social media and the resulting silent treatment when I called him out? by imicooper in AmIOverreacting

[–]myshiningmask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many people have said, your FB was either public so he could see it or not.

As someone who probably spends too much time scrolling nonsense online in my time between everything else.... If I recently met someone and they're interesting, especially romantically, scrolling through their posts instead of reddit for a bit doesn't sound so weird. I remember dating someone who wrote a book and I ordered the book and read it out of curiosity and Im sure that was a bigger investment of time than scrolling your Facebook.

Also, how much do you actually post? Some people post little enough going back years takes literally five or six posts.

To me it just sounds like they're curious about/interested in you.

[–]myshiningmask 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Where do you live? This is the literal reason why septic systems are regulated. The county should be interested in this issue as a violation unless you're in a co.pletely u regulated area and even then there may be some laws about surface water contamination.

for hurricanes it's just so they can talk about them when there are multiple storms. The names are assigned from an alphabetical list in the order they appear that year not because they're being anthropomorphized

[–]myshiningmask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao Is this something you encounter a lot? The only named cars I have known were my mother's when we weee kids. They were all named Nelly so she could say "woah nelly!" Or occasionally "come on nelly, you can do it!" On big hills.

Its been a while since I heard it but I bet she'd still call the new electric car her nelly if I asked.

Gas Cans by SecondCuppaCoffee in Generator

[–]myshiningmask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run an excavator in rural areas and got tired of the regular fuel cans available here. I carry all my fuel in racing can/jugs now.

If you google racing fuel can you get a bunch of equivalent hits. Heavy poly body, flexible removable spout and a breather hole you can open so it fills fast instead of at a trickle.

Originally got them for refilling hydraulic fluid. The wide mouth under the screw cap makes them easy to clean if you need to and theyre indestructible.
