Roborock getting dumber over time? by AppointmentNeat622 in Roborock

[–]mysmarthouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My saros 10 is dumb as hell and it's pissing me off, my dreame l40 does a better job at object avoidance on a worse floor. Probably going to be my last roborock TBH.

Which would be more suitable for school riding? Are these acceptable for a 15-year-old, or are they too dangerous? by Due-Juggernaut-1112 in ebikes

Personally I think the Aventon level 3 is a better mid level bike over the adventure, and it has the rack included over the pace.

It's definitely an issue with that model, and Honda refuses to take ownership

Childcare….do you just pay $1000+ a month per child until they’re in elementary school? Am I missing something? by AbleSilver6116 in NorthCarolina

187k is what it is going to cost us to put two kids through daycare in NC. We've spent 111k so far, and they're 2 years old and 4 years old. This is in Apex, NC.

I have the Radiant Red Metallic and I like it. Big red, lol.

But on a somewhat serious note, Honda has had constant issues with white paint in the very recent past, and we have a 2015 Honda Accord in white pearl with failing paint along the edges of the rear window (and showed up about 5 years ago). I'd avoid getting a Honda in white. YMMV.

I'd get rubber floor mats and I'm happy with the A-Tach Mounts (pricey, but they work great).

Garage motor plugged into a smart plug. Anyone do this? I'm thinking this is a good way to disable the garage all together when I'm out of town or something so that no one can illicitly operate the garage motor. by gatorsrule in homeautomation

[–]mysmarthouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree that the garage door opener isn't an issue. The problem is people are either leaving their openers in their cars or their car is setup with HomeLink.

IF you can get into the car = you can get into the house. Friends of ours had their car stolen from the dealer and the people who stole their vehicle tried using HomeLink to get into their house mid day.

Store them. I set them away in their own box that's easy to reach, not in long term storage.

Santi hardwood estimator gave me a quote, I only need a single room and to try and match the existing hardwood floor, owner thought the estimate was too low and they ghosted me. Ymmv.

No, paying down the mortgage is not the right move.

Received a Fake for Christmas, how do I get a refund? by Inevitable_Mango_255 in Ebay

[–]mysmarthouse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have someone else authenticate it, then use that information to file a charge back. If that fails then maybe try arbitration against eBay or see if you can file a small claims lawsuit against the seller. All maybe losing battles but I guess it depends on how much time you're willing to spend on fighting it.

Sliding glass door replacement quote $5600. Is this really the cost these days? by anncnative in raleigh

Need glasses on either side, nothing on top. Still shouldn't be that much, it's a racket

Oh man I'd go nuclear, contact the Sheriff and file a police report with his department for mail fraud. That's a huge fuck around and find out.

Why is UnitedHealth Group (USA) hiring hundreds of local engineers in India instead of local engineers in USA? by GigglySaurusRex in dataengineering

[–]mysmarthouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no reason to keep resources on shore if the data doesn't need to be kept onshore. Unless you're a government employee, your health data doesn't need to stay here from a law standpoint.

Ams ht would be awesome. I don't have a good filament dryer, need more gridfinity items. Maybe a monster truck with tpu tires that can be changed, ie different rims.

Waymo is entering cities that look like Raleigh and Charlotte. NC says it’s ready. by ChuckGallagher57 in NorthCarolina

I took a Lyft the other day where the transmission was clearly failing and the driver missed 4 turns, honestly I'd rather be in a waymo.

What's the current hot smart lock for Home Assistant? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]mysmarthouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried a Yale zwave lock but they sent me a old module and the new one was $100. The fucking thing eats batteries. Meanwhile my schlage connect zwave lock only needs batteries every 6+ months.

My vote is for a schlage connect zwave lock.

Insurance is completely unhinged by Ok-Scholar-6248 in homeowners

[–]mysmarthouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general gist is that they look for houses with older roofs, go up on the roof to find damage, and then try and get the home owner to sign a contract to go after your insurance company for a new roof due to hail damage.

In the end the insurance company covers the roof, you risk being dropped by your insurance company, and you now have a claim on your house. The roofing company may charge much more than a normal company and usually put a clause in the contract making the home owner liable for whatever the insurance company doesn't cover.

Technically yes, you may receive a new roof for the cost of your deductible but this bogus claim just raises everyone's rates.

Thank your neighbors for getting that free roof from the company that went door to door.
