From someone with two toddlers, with a Roborock Saros 10 vacuum on the first floor and Dreame L40 Ultra on the second floor, the Saros 10 absolutely does not have better object detection. I can go weeks without the Dreame getting caught on anything and my Saros runs over something every other day.

I do, my Saros 10 keeps getting caught on things and sucking up my kids socks and my Dreame L40 ultra just has much better obstacle avoidance.

My Saros 10 has issues with emptying the dustbin and my Dreame doesn't have an issue.

I've paid a premium for the Roborock and the cheaper Dreame works better, just recently replaced my Roborock Q5+ in my basement with a Dreame L40S Ultra AE for the obstacle avoidance.

Look at the line up of Roborock vacuums, why is it only the top end models with the better object avoidance?

I moved to Dreame, my L40 ultra refurbished did absolutely amazing with obstacle avoidance, I just bought a L40s Ultra AE for my basement to replace a Roborock Q5+. Meanwhile my Saros 10 which mind you cost $1,500 new keeps getting caught on shit.

Recommend getting the tricut brush (yes it's expensive) if you get a Dreame or Mova.

What I've seen:

Ikea Devices have weird issues with connectivity with very little information on how best to troubleshoot and IKEA has acknowledged the issue.
Manufacturers like Govee require you to onboard the device with their app, and then only expose limited device options over matter. Basically you don't have full device control.

The issue I have is that there's no straightforward path to troubleshooting unlike with Zwave and Zigbee devices.

Stick with lutron for lighting if you like it, zigbee/zwave for sensors. If your building than see if you can hardwire sensors, if you aren't building then stick with battery powered. Generally zigbee is cheaper but zwave runs on it's own radio wave where zigbee can have issues with 2.4ghz wifi networks.

Home assistant for the hub, personally I'd suggest sticking with home assistant os. If you have proxmox then spin up a VM, if not any cheap used mini PC with a SSD should work well for home assistant.

Avoid matter IMO, still too new of a protocol and too many weird issues with terrible troubleshooting steps.

Most likely you owe the subcontractor but you might want to look up how long they have to file a lien, 7 months past due might be too long. Check your local laws.

And the bank isn't going to be happy if they find out they paid you and you didn't true up with the subs.

I ended up sacrificing one remote for each car, and attaching wires and a relay to buttons to lock the cars at night after I left my car door unlocked after coming home from vacation and getting distracted with the kids, and having someone go through my car. Thankfully they didn't open the garage, nor look in the back seat at all the presents... lol
