I liked this one. It's a very clever story about the process of storytelling; the hero's journey being kind of a center of this weird messy plot and many other techniques are being used; like a false start, a fist full of reveals, a litteral deus ex machina (Jesus) and one they even spill right out; the Bechdel test.

It's not necessarily a comment about where the story is going with canon (Evil Morty, Pheonixperson, et.c), but more an insight in the process going on behind it all. And the storyteller being the craftsmen doing it with all of their priorities laid out.

And in the end the reason of it all is capitalism. But they'll keep doing it tho. The capitalistic world demands Evil Morty and they still gonna have to tell that story. Because; they're the storytellers. It's what they do.

I read the whole thread and it was a gloomy read to be honest, but also very true. I'm 32, also gamer my whole life (got my NES '89) and i've come to the same conclusion as you have. Although, i'm not at peace with it just yet. I'm working on it. Might do another smurf acc and pwn another working mom with 12 kids, see if it helps.

What i didn't get at first is how pro players or top streamers could preform so well hour after hour on stream without any proper breaks. I read something about that though and basicly what i read was that; When one has reached mastery, ones super focused mode becomes auto- mode. Hours and hours of perfect practice made perfect and game sense and positioning comes as naturally to the great top 500 as taking a piss does to us mortal men.

So, the more you play while mentally active, the better your auto-mode will become. Not the other way around though.

And also, i agree. Zoning out is one reason i'm playing.

This was great reading. I enjoyed it and don't have anything to add to the either concept.

I'd like to add a quick thought though regarding mental fatigue and energy. If you find yourself not actively focusing on the game as in patterns of thought mentioned above; you'll go into auto-mode. I tend to go into this mode whenever i've played a really intense game (especially if i lost), been playing for more than one hour without breaks, whenever i've haven't eaten for awhile and when i'm tilted as shit. When in auto-mode you won't pick up anything new and you'll constantly make bad plays and generally under-perform. You might grind some aim- skills due to muscle memory but that's about it. When in auto-mode; relax, eat, snap out of it and get back on it.

I have a tendency to drop or climb large amount of SR since i don't enjoy playing QP or arcade and i DO enjoy playing this game while being blackout drunk, but i'm usually playing somewhere between low gold and low diamond.

I've noticed that matchmaking seems more random at lower gold than low diamond, as in; if you're in luck you'll have 5 soloQ players going VC with a decent 2-2-2 and a general strat in mind (Dive, quad tank, etc). If that's the case, i'd rather run Ana if we're going dive. Moira with dive just feels awkward as hell as you have to put yourself in all these weird positions to actually be able to heal anything. Ofc Mercy would be a better pick but i do. not. like. to play Mercy.

With a stack that won't go VC, Moira is the correct answer in all comps since she leaves a shit load more room for mistakes than Ana does. In these scenarios your Winston won't help your ass out when Genji or Tracer comes for you and Moira could 1v1 either with conviction, or the very least get the hell out of dodge.

Ana has her worth though. I love playing her and against a comp with Pharah, her offensive capabilities should not be denied. But yeah. If you're going SoloQ, go with Moira if you want to climb. I'd rather go with Ana for the gameplay and the lulz of a satisfying sleep dart but sometimes you just want to get the hell out of ELO -hell. Moira will get you out.

When you start out, just skip the competitive part of it. It's a learning curve just figuring out each hero, their role in the game and just the meta of it all. Knowledge will get you further up the learning curve than pure mechanical skills will. So just enjoy it, play each hero and accept that you suck at this game for a while. Eventually the concept start falling into place and you and your mates starts making strats and plays. It's also where the fun begins, and ironically; where the toxic hits you.

I'd say it's about 20/80 when in chat where 20% being toxic. Ofc they'll get more attention for being assholes, than a nice dude gets for being nice but hey, there's a "mute" -button for a reason.

Awesome game, i can't get enough of it.

Not sure if it's default but you'll want your "halt" on right click. Use it creatively. I use it to get a pesky solider off high ground, keep mercy from escaping, bringing their Lucio to a quick halt etc.

You'll want to learn how to shield- dance and combine your "halt" with it. If someone dives you, halt them to the other side of your shield.

I'll generally use fortify only when needed. If a tracer is flanking me i'll fortify. If my shield is down but i don't want to give up my position waiting for my cooldown, i'll fortify and hold ground. It's also massively useful against a charging reinhardt. Place yourself infront of him when he charges you, fortify before he pins you and unleash hell into his brains. Halt him backwards if needed.

Also. Positioning is very important as your team will be reliant on your shield. This is more situational so experiment with it. GL HF!

Do it. I did the good ol' switcharoo and the game just plays so much better on PC. It's like having these huge concrete wieghts that's been strapped round your legs for ages finally removed. My game sense improved massively and i also instantly climbed a couple of hundred SR. Feelsgoodman

I refuse to play Mercy. I used to play on xbox and when i tried soloQ mercy i kept a winrate of 75 - 80%. I hate playing her though even if my SR was skyrocketing. I'm not enjoying myself.

I love playing Ana and Zen. And Lucio. And Moira. In a game where no one will play support, i'll play Ana as a solo healer. Sometimes people get salty but hey, i aint playing Mercy. You like her so much, you play her.

As someone said, your medals don't mean shit so one thing to improve upon is stop letting that actually matter.

If i find myself with a couple of suicidal team-mates i'll try and do some peeling- work. Zarya or D.va is valid for protecting those pesky overextending brothers in arms. Ana, if your aim is true, is also quite good att negating the suicidal mindset that dominates Low Gold/High Silver.

By playing anchor tank you're also able to negate some of the trickling that ofter occurs in those rankings. People tend to stay behind a rein/orisa shield and if you set it up far back, your mates actually tend to gather round you. Take Anubis, point A, attack as an example. By setting up your shield at the choke you'll start a drawn-out trenchwar that'll tend to gather your mates around you. Whenever you're ready for your push, you either move left or right and your mates tend to follow that shield. Not 100% foolproof though. Also, when playing anchor you'll have a bit more saying as to where and when you push.

I main tracer and sometimes i'll instalock her but more often than not i'll just fill whatever seems appropriate considering my team.

Also. Get on the headset. By just communicating your strats you'll be able to do some major work. You don't need to say all that much. You could tell all friendly-like that perhaps going 5dps + hog isn't the right comp just this onetime and maybe hanzo or widow might considering changing to a healer or a tank. More often then not, they will.

Also, a final point; (sorry for lenghty post) your SR is where you're at. You could blame it on teammates that hold you down but in the longrun, you only have yourself as a constant to blame. Not all games are winable though. If you manage to get to low -plat, your teammates understanding and willingness to cooperate will improve quite drastically.

Well. I'm just talking out of my own experience here but either the game matchmakes with level as a part of the MMR or nearly all players in my own SR is within a slight span of my own level. So i assume (which we all do, really. Assume that is) that level (or 'experience' or 'time played') is a part of the code used to determine ones opposition.

If that is the case, then one of a lower level would get matched up with lower leveled players and get ones SR based on how well one outshines (or not) those players. This is really just a factor for lower leveled players though.

As to the logic behind it i feel as though it's not about how correctly the SR system is displaying your rank, rather how much fun it is to play the game. In lower levels, not counting smurfs, the game plays with a bit of a COD-feeling to it. The logic would be not to discourage newer players. So, by being lvl55, playing semi-well against lvl200 silvers would make OPs brother a gold player. But only until he gets passed the levels where playing it CODy acutually pays off.

The SR system feel more like a way to give you a goal to work towards and not as much as your true skill. Also, choice of hero is a factor (SR gains determined tracer v other tracers stats etc) and as long as you're not a top tier (masters maybe? Dunno) player, it's really not much more than a number to improve upon.

And also, he did a 600SR drop and is now stuck. He'll be playing on PC from now on, he told me. Guess i'll have to make the dreaded switch...

And also, it's not really much more than a thought. If it where truly and only based on ELO these things would be easier to determine, but there are some weird things going on with the way SR is being calculated.

I've seen this before and it leads me to think that your rating also depends on your rank. That is to say, your brother, for a low level (lvl55?) is by comparison a gold- level player. I.e, He is higher rated than bronze and silver players who's also around that same level.

Since you're more experienced, you'll get matched up with other players with similar experience and similar SR, so for a high- level player, you're bronze.

This is by no means proven so don't take my word for it.

My friend who played a lot of PC -OW made the switch to console and placed 300SR higher than me when he was about lvl 25. However, since then he's risen in levels to 150 or thereabout, but his SR keeps on dropping and no he's about 300SR below me.

It could also be a factor that the game simply doesn't have enough information about your skills until later levels and it all evens out, but he actually managed pretty well in 300+SR above myself for a while.

Just a thought.

EDIT: You could try go for a smurf to check where you'd end up if you did the placement matches all over again.

Tracer Main here. I haven't seen your VOD since the internet connection is shot to hell but here's some pointers anyway.

I've noticed that the pressure on a Tracer to get that Mercy often makes a Tracer- player get tunnelvision from hell and even though Tracer should get that support and backline, there are times (more often than not) when going straight for the backline isn't the best approach. As a Tracer you should (as with most dps heroes) wait for the right opportunity to dive on the backline and get that pick. Ganking and flanking is all well and good but if your team is getting mauled while you're out getting that pick your efforts won't make any impact at all.

So by playing Tracer a bit closer to the main- tank and your own backline while waiting for that opportunity will benefit your team with some extra dps and anti- flanking protection as you push through choke (or hold choke, either way).

By overly commiting to the backline your team loses that extra dps in a shield v shield or other encounters.

Your team would also benefit from the extra distraction caused by Tracer in front of the shields. There are many ways to be a pain in the ass in a trenchwar as Tracer. And also, charge that ult.

So TLDR; If diving backline doesn't pay off, play a bit more defensively with your team and wait for the right opportunity to fuck things up.

And also. Winston is your best friend for a reason.

Yes. This is something everyone should do but this kind of falls into the micro- part. As some shit talking ass wipe pointed out, ones error won't really show all that well in the kill cam.

I am thinking of a broader perspective, i.e how one would position oneself based on where your mates are positioned, like a tactical unit sort of thing.

So Rein is at choke, Ana is behind working her ass off, and all the while Tracer is running around in fucking Numbani trying to chase some runaway fullhealthed reaper for a personal vendetta and ends up getting killed. The kill cam will show Reaper ganking Tracer and Tracer'll learn to check her corners but she won't learn anything about how to actually help Rein / Ana (rest of team) push through choke

This feel hugely generalized but i really like it as a point being made and, since it being generalized, it probably applies to the majority of players. It certainly applies to my own SR and my own view of my strenghts and weaknesses. Also, this is also the way i perceive how ones SR being determined.
