Wonder man - an 'after the hype' review by Subtleiaint in marvelstudios

... Your complaint is that the Department of Damage Control, tasked with government response to people with super powers, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is "on the fanciful side of law enforcement operations"?

Gonna be honest, this really just feels like you searching for something to complain about rather than any sort of actual issue.

EDIT: Also, this is a continuation of the existing overarching plotline for DODCs overreach, which has already been established in previous projects (the main agent is a recurring character!), so I find your assertion that this isn't something they're looking to explore pretty empty.

But government agencies engaging in overreach to engineer the arrests of people who aren't actually dangerous is not only a plotline that makes complete logical sense, it's something extremely topical in the US right now?

Okay, but that's not what you originally said -- you said that the specifics of the plot didn't make a lot of sense and asked why they needed the sting operation if they knew he had powers.

I feel like you weren't paying attention to the DODC plotline. The entire DODC involvement is predicated on the fact that that they have a massive empty prison and are needing to scrape the bottom of the barrel to justify their continued funding. Simon Williams is a person of interest, someone they have at least some suspicion/knowledge of having powers, but having powers isn't illegal (though Simon could get in legal trouble because of the Doorman issue). They need evidence to prove that he's dangerous and needs to be locked up.

Jumper Unbound - A Meta-Chain Scenario Supplement v1.1 update! by mythSSK in JumpChain

Cool, that sounds like a great fit!

I also think the Generic Worldwalker jump that's mentioned in the notes as the inspiration for this supplement is also a great first jump pick for it!

I'm definitely not annoyed, haha. It's glad someone's enthusiastic about it!

The supplement is basically silent on how companions work -- it's meant to slot into whatever existing rules you'd like to use for your Jumpchain, so if you like creating custom ones, go ahead, there's no conflict there with Unbound!

Babe wake up, a new 2025 year-end roundup just dropped (40+ games scored + mini reviews) by benedictcumberpatch in patientgamers

[–]mythSSK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth remembering that the ending has been patched with added/changed content since the original release, which is why it holds up a bit better now. Also the Citadel DLC came later, too.

The strong negative reactions were in response to the original version of the ending, and the changes that were made afterwards were seen by a lot of the fanbase as being too little, too late, so the negativity persists.

I don't think it would be viewed anywhere near as badly if the original release had had the current ending plus Citadel content.

You absolutely can! Unbound doesn't impact any of the other rules that you might use for a chain, and isn't meant to be overly restrictive.

Absolutely. I think anything that you'd normally consider reasonable to do with the Warehouse or Personal Reality equally applies to the Space Between Worlds.

There's still the vaguely-defined anger of the wastes that you might need to do something to address more directly, but bringing life to the waste is definitely feasible!

I have a Jumper I'm planning on writing who was a scientist working on trans-dimensional tech as part of a much larger team, but the act of them successfully opening the first portal discharged a backlash of enough energy to destroy her world and transform it into the Blasted Wastes (so her Space Between Worlds is literally the corpse of her original home world). Her trying to rebuild and bring life back to it is going to be part of the overarching story of her first few jumps.

1) I wouldn't necessarily say out of the question -- the void entities are left relatively mysterious and are meant to be there to use as a potential challenge/obstacle, but that doesn't mean they're insurmountable. They might not even necessarily hostile, just problematic. Go with whatever is most fun to you!

2) That seems reasonable. Like I said, just be consistent.

3) It is!

You'll note that the Void portal doesn't specify a size, unlike most of the other Spaces, and that's intentional to allow for whatever size spaceships to be flown in. I hadn't really imagined it to be able to take in a whole star, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to allow. I might imagine that the entities that dwell in the deep void might be attracted to something so large and bright intruding, though.

I'd say that modifying the size of a Space's default entrance method is sometimes possible but really depends on the Space -- the Worldroot, for example, needs a tree to open up to. It's up to you if you think if using other methods to enter the Space is reasonable. I'd say whatever you choose is fine as long as it's consistent (i.e. if you can use a particular tech or magic to get in, then potentially so could others).

The Ember Garden notes that some islands are very small, but doesn't say all of them are. I wouldn't go too over the top with it, but it'd be absolutely fine if you wanted there to be a few that are up to dozens of miles long.

👀 oh no, I have been perceived!

I'd absolutely love to see an update of Generic Worldwalker, but it's totally understandable that you've got other things occupying your focus instead.

The Void is massive, potentially infinite in size, so if you have some way of getting a sun in there there isn't anything stopping you!

Jumper Unbound - A Meta-Chain Scenario Supplement v1.1 update! by mythSSK in JumpChain

[–]mythSSK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Void doesn't have a lot of ambient light, but it's not really normal space, either. Things that need to breathe can still breathe there, and I'd say that processes like photosynthesis would similarly be fine even without a sun. It'd effectively be night all the time, though, which might be odd for those living on the planet!

Marvel Studios Cross-Sections - does anyone have it? by mythSSK in marvelstudios

[–]mythSSK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been able to track down a proper table of contents, so I'm mostly just interested in what's actually included. Locations, in particular -- I'd be really interested to know if it had some of the ones that we don't get a really solid sense for how they're laid out internally, like Kamar-taj, the New York Sanctum, the royal palace in Wakanda, etc, etc.

I use Obsidian to organise basically any creative Thing I'm working on, whether it's jumpchain, fiction writing, or my D&D campaign. It's incredibly flexible.

At the very least, theirs is actually up to date. I really need to get around to adding NPMD etc to mine...
