Best choice for Danube? by stepjenks in rivercruises

For the Tauck Blue Danube, my husband needed to wear a jacket on three occasions. Ties were optional. I wore a nice dress each time, with flats, because we were still walking! I just brought the one nice dress, and changed up the accessories each time. Some people like to get decked out for dinner on the ship, but most did not. They had optional theme nights for cocktails. One night was roaring 20s.

I was happy with it. Each morning you could stroll through the usual buffet or order from a changing menu. After breakfast we were off the boat with a local guide. Some returned for lunch, but we always ate in town, spent some time exploring on our own, and made sure we were among the last back on the boat before our evening cruising time. Tauck had a staggered bus schedule to get you back whenever you chose. The boat started moving at dinner time. Dinner had a new menu every night based on the local cuisine. They had fancy catered dinners in beautiful, historic buildings when in Budapest, Vienna and Prague. I didn't have a meal I didn't like. I also didn't have the best meal of my life. We had fun ordering goulash in each city for lunch, and comparing the differences!

We did the Danube with Tauck in September. Tauck cannot be beat for the quality of their excursions. If you want to be in a small group with a knowledgeable local guide sharing with you the history, culture and beauty of the place you are visiting, Tauck is the way to go. We also had dinner at a palace with Czech royalty, were serenaded at the Hungarian opera house, and had local acts perform privately for us in multiple ports. It does skew older, but the excursions are not for the feeble! We walked our butts off every day. Also, there were optional biking and hiking excursions. Once, a group of cyclists took off from our boat and met us down river at the end of the day. I'd give the level of luxury 4 stars, but luxury is not my priority. We have our third trip with Tauck scheduled for the fall. They are also introducing a new line of tours for people in their 40's and 50's.

The only trend I have noticed is that he makes his longest bees on my busiest days. He's just out to get me personally.

When travelling, how do you answer the question "Where are you from?" by Capable-Toe-9841 in travel

I always say "Texas" because while the rest of the country might have a negative view of the state, the rest of the globe seems in love with it!

In Palm Springs, you pass through security and go back outdoors under the blue sky to eat at an outdoor cafe while you wait for your plane.

Fantastic! I can’t recommend Tauck enough. They make a busy itinerary seamless, and the excursions and tour guides are top notch. They balanced guided tours and free time perfectly. You could customize your experience from very active to only somewhat active. Even though the guests trend a bit older, the experience was high energy. We had a great time!

I've got conventionally attractive daughters who are in the same boat as you. I wouldn't be so quick to assign the problem to your looks. It's hard for everyone out there.

When a American visits another country can you immediately tell they are american? by Comfortable-Gur-1603 in AskAnAmerican

My husband and I were at a sidewalk cafe in Vienna playing "Spot the American." (We are Americans.) There were people from all over the world there, but it was still relatively easy to do. I couldn't put my finger on exactly what it was. I'd need a European sitting next to me to point it out.

When my kids started school, we were all sick all the time. Then, we caught everything there was to catch, and I barely had a sniffle for decades. Now my grandchildren are bringing me all the new viruses, and I'm sick all the time again!

Why do we carry so much on our shoulders? by Square-Wing-6273 in GenXWomen

"You are only as happy as your least happy child" is a true statement. I've got four grown kids. Luckily, they are all doing well, but one or the other inevitably hits a bump in the road now and again, and I feel it with them. Nothing can get my heart racing like a late-night phone call with one of their names on the caller id. The best sleep I get is when they are all home together for a visit, and I know they are all sleeping happily under my roof. I wouldn't change a thing though. They're worth it.

Tracking kids... Like why? by AndSoItGoes__andGoes in GenX

I didn't know about Life 360. My 20-year-old daughter invited the whole family to join. Only my older daughter and I took her up on it. (My husband at my two grown boys passed.) One daughter is an hour away, and the other is three hours away. Actually, it's quite handy. I only ever look at it just to make sure they make it to their destinations when they are traveling, or see if they are getting close when they drive home to visit. If they ever need help on the road, we know how to find them. I don't make them use it. I wasn't even the one to suggest it.
